The last airworthy Cold War British Vulcan bomber, and 1982 Falklands conflict veteran, could have made its final public flight on Sunday unless its owners can raise £400,000 by the end of October. Read full article
Oil money would be better spent on a big Gold Statue to Leopoldo Galtieri on Thatcher Drive, seeing it was him that guaranteed the Argies willl never get the Malvinas :-)
After a while some things have to be consigned to the annals of history. The Islands have a great future which was bought for them by the blood of the UK armed forces against the naked aggression of a brutal dictator.
Now is the ideal time for the islands to move forward and if Argentina wants to show maturity then it can look at ways to collaborate in a spirit of collaboration and friendship. Unlike CFK I know a word to describe this situation - progress!
You say first:
”The brain that wrote my PhD thesis is struggling!”
And then:
”CFK said “I don't know the word” in front of the UN!.... Hilarious!”
I say:
You brain is struggling but loosing……………..
CFK said, in Spanish, in front of the UN:
”Hoy son asociados, aliados, amigos…. Busquenle la palabra que mejor les guste.”
(Minute 39:30)
CFK said, correctly translated to English, in front of the UN:
“Today, they are associates, allies, friends…Choose the word you like best..”
(Minute 39:30)
CFK was incorrectly translated in English, by a UN simultaneous interpreter:
“They are many other… allied, associates... I don’t know what the right word would be…”
(Minute 39:30)
Think. I have neither the time nor inclination to follow up on what I heard in the UN translation. What was clear is the amount of repetition in CFKs ranting. She could have said what she wanted in half the time. It was also in stark contrast to the Statesman like approach of Cleggy that followed.
Ale - the FI belong to the Islanders. If you don't think so then take the matter to the ICJ. Argentina lost all credibility in 1982 and the islanders do not their streets strewn with rubbish again, or their Post Oftice used as a public lavatory!
BTW - I do care about the Islands and have put my money where my mouth is. What action have you taken?
Does Argentina care about the Islands? Considering what Argentina did to the Islands in 1982 then your definition of caring leaves a lot to be desired.
In english law, theft = 'the dishonest appropriation of property belonging to another with the intention to permanently deprive that other of it'
Dishonest = the British found the islands in 1690 and no-one else was there. We placed a garrison there in 1765 and have held sovereignty ever since and against all comers. Nothing dishonest there.
Appropriation = we 'appropriated' the islands in 1690, way before Argentina was a twinkle in a revolutionary's eye.
Property = the islands are land and we own 'em :-)
Belonging to Another = Nope, they've always belonged to us even though thieving little trespassers both Spanish and Argentine have tried to sneak our property away.
Intention to Permanently Deprive = nope, if the islanders want them then we'll hand the islands over willingly to the new nation of the FALKLANDS
