Brazil has always recognized Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland/Malvinas Islands but was reluctant to include South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands however that is over, according to a top official from the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Read full article

A nation who already agrees with you, agrees with you more.
OH NOES!
I'm surprise it took this long for the Argies to triumphalise what Lula said some time ago. But, in a way we should not be surprised as their pack of cards to play diminishes as each day passes now that Nestor is not longer wrestling the helm! And I wonder if, when major oil and gas reserves are sourced offshore the Falklands, if the Brazilians will still be talking up the Argie position... somehow I doubt it!

Nov 21st, 2010 - 11:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0the only reason I can see why you guys are cheering your great victory [nothing] is because the British are sitting bye and letting you sprout on like fools, and any man with half a brain would wonder why , why should she sit and say nothing, whilst you look for non existent friends, perhaps Argentina thinks Britain is scared, not got the guts perhaps ?
lost the will to fight, perhaps, haven’t got the military might to get there, or fight there, perhaps you think Britain has lost her bottle,
BUT there’s only one way to find out , is there not ? [see you soon then]
or will we just hear you from a distant, [you have never had a better chance] ?????????????????

Nov 22nd, 2010 - 05:23 am - Link - Report abuse 0A senior Argentine politician appears to be the only source of this story ...... not much of a story then :-)
Not just Brazil, ALL of latin America and China support Argentina. Those islands belong to Argentina. Personally, I say screw diplomacy, WAR is the only way. England is also in Gibraltar and Antartica.
Nov 22nd, 2010 - 05:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0Funny that a bunch of Argentine muppets are now calling for war. Let us remember what happened last time Argentina decided to take the military option.
Nov 22nd, 2010 - 06:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0However, if you really want a War then go ahead and show your hand. You will find that the UK will be happy to oblige as war and fighting has been a part of the UK since the days of Vikings, Saxons, Normas and Romans (not in that order obviously).
Somehow I don't think your leaders will want to be responsible for a humiliating defeat (again).
(27) Mr. Beef…
Nov 22nd, 2010 - 07:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0As usual, a significant part of you “Thinks” right, but………………….
As this article and the other one about those 26 submarines proves, Brazil is fast becoming one of the most important pieces of the Argentinean South-Atlantic policy.
Brazils very realistic concern about their oilfields is becoming quite a fixation and the Malvinas situation is increasingly used as a “bad example” in their defence and interior ministries.
Let’s see how welcome those Royal Navy “provoker” ships and “buccaneer” British oil rigs are in their harbors next time…..
As it also can read elsewhere, we seem to be doing some nice progress on the East South-Atlantic diplomatic front too.
I didn’t know so much about that until yesterday……
Amandla sister Sisulu :-)
Think. So you are alleging that Brazil is building it's military capacity so it can attack the UK and help Argentina invade the islands? All this after signing (yes something actually binding) a defense agreement with the UK.
Nov 22nd, 2010 - 08:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0BTW ships going to and from the Islands are still passing through Brazil and this includes those with kit for the oil exploration.
Believe me if you think Brazil gives a toss about the islands then why have you been unable to gain anything but a guesture of support. He who pays the piper calls the tune and Brazil is more interested in it's own interests than Argentinas. EU trade agreement anyone?
In reality Think it is time for Argentina to start to implement sone pragmatic policy. You are bright enough to see that.
Remember the Islands don't need Argentina and in terms of oil exploration and production technology is in place that would remove you from the equation. Time to put up or shut up. In terms of real support regarding the islands you are in fact all at sea.
Mercopress is the only english news service that I can find circulating this story ... ?? So is it really news ??

Nov 22nd, 2010 - 09:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0Why do you always insist of mis-interpreting me?
Brazil’s problem is not wit the UK….., It is with the USA… You know that!
But they are using Malvinas iternally to further their Agenda, just as the British MoD does.
This is good for us.
Brazil’s seemingly real oil adventure is “vacuum cleaning” the market for equipment, personnel and investment on the Area.
This is good for us.
And I can see by your repeated comments that you are trying hard to convince yourself and others about that outdated South-American caricaturesque picture so many of you Anglos still believe in.
Mr. Beef…. Try to understand…. The South-American pragmatic approach to the Malvinas issue did begin at the inflexion date: 15 February 2010
Malvinas is like a tooth cavity for us in South America… Unimportant but noticeable…
We are on the way to the dentist to repair it and forget about it……
About your rampings……
Last time you ramped, it wasPotash… and what happened?
Those Degenerated Communist French Canadians ruined a perfectly sound capitalistic business claiming “National Interest”
Can you believe it !!!
Somebody should teach those backward ignorants about pragmatism and the real world…
A job for you… perhaps?

Nov 22nd, 2010 - 12:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Regarding pragmatism, Brazil are still happy for ships to come and go!
All that you have left is the option of pragmatic policy formation as your other approaches have failed to alter anything and in fact have further strengthened the will of the Islanders. If you want some money then perhaps you can start to talk seriously, otherwise the cash will go elsewhere.
Your choice!

”We must look for peace, stability and progress in the region helping to build an integrated, fair and democratic country”.Ambassador Alberto D’Alotto, head of the Foreign Affairs Desk.......You cannot be Democratic and go around claiming Islands that clearly (under international law) do not belong to you and never have...and have been forcibly repossessed from you. This must be an Argentine and Brazilian version of democracy. No doubt Brazil will also agree with all other Argentinian claims for parts of Chile as well. Just because Belgrano waved his hands and claimed everything south of B's A's .....does not mean that Argentina owns it !
Nov 23rd, 2010 - 11:02 am - Link - Report abuse 0Well Mr Think, for something that is unimportant you sure spend a lot of time on it, trying to convincve others that your colonial aspirations are OK in this case, however abhorrent they may be in all others.

It's a strange coincidence that it always seems to be that only when another South American country is negotiating with Argentina over something (ie they need cooperation from Argentina) that they come out in support of Argentinas claim, then ignore it any other time.
