A 130 hectares city park and open space taken over by squatters in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires, the scene in recent days of violent incidents in which at least four people were killed and scores injured, was calm on Sunday following on the arrival of security forces sent by the federal government. Disclaimer & comment rulesI had to do a lot of things to have a bank credit to my department in B.A.City, The Federal Gov. can´t open the country borders (with paraguayan, bolivian, peruvian, chilean) so easy, because we will have this problems. They take the land and wait to have a right of this!!! because the human rights.... that is ridicuolous..... It is like falklanders taking our lands in Malvinas and next the human right of self determination.
Dec 13th, 2010 - 12:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Such a shame isn't it John, the way people insist on having their human rights upheld. Things would be som much easier for the likes of you if you could just make people 'disappear' like in the days of the good ol' Junta eh?
Dec 13th, 2010 - 01:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It is sad that a city mayor can not do anything because he is supressed by its own goverment. We have the same problem here in the US with our southern neighbours. They cross the border illegally, wave the flag and demand rights. Nobody likes that. What can you expect from an Argentiean govenment that...according to history (circa 1970's) is composed of former guerrilla members.....
Dec 13th, 2010 - 02:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We went through the tough 50's and 60's civil rights. No one wants oppression and repression of civilians by any means, however, one can not hide behind the human rights flag and take land or impose on a country.
We wish you the best for the next elections!!!!
WestisBest - This is not the same subject as making people disappear, nor is it the same subject as the Malvinas/Falklands. nitrojuan may not have expressed himself well enough in English to send the right message, but this has nothing to do with human rights, it is a simple matter of illegals being led by thugs of the CFK government to break the law and expect people like Juan to pay for it.
Dec 13th, 2010 - 02:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The Ks have a long history of paying squatters to leave rather than forcing the issue. Why not set up a villa when eventually the gov't will pay you to take iti down so they can demolish it? Or why not take over someone's private property, destroy the interior then get paid by the gov't to leave. They reward bad behavior. The BA Police should have the obligation to remove squatters from public land but why here and not the dozens of HUGE villas around the city. It makes no sense.
Dec 13th, 2010 - 02:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0fredbdc - It is a little complicated, but the villas are mostly on national government land, while in this case, the park is city land. City police do not have arms, and there a limited number on this police force, who are primarily street cops who give tickets for going through red lights in parts of the city, etc. The only real forces which can remove squatters is the national federal police force, the border guards and the coast guard, all being commanded by CFK.

Dec 13th, 2010 - 10:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Obviusly that it's not right to take a public space like that park, but what you should do, is to wonder why does it happen in argentina.
The answer is simple, this people are the result of an unequal society, if macri's government would not have diminished the budget for popular houses, wich are adressed to poor people, maybe this problem would not have happened, it's very easy to blame the imigration for narcotraffic, and delicuence, however what that idiot ignores is that since 120 year ego, the porcentage of migration that comes from bordering countries is just 2,5, and it didn't increased, and the worst is that many people buys the words of this fascist son of a bitch.
I think that we must recognize once and for all that w havea rascist society.
Beside, human rights are not something redicuolous, for thta kind of ignorant expretions, we had more than 30000 desapeared people, think before you type please (nitrojuan).
Illegal immigrants should be deported like it is in any countries in the world.
Dec 14th, 2010 - 12:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0Peru its growing 9% its showed by the neocons as example of successful economy, Chile the same, Paraguay is growing 9%, etc. They have to take care of their owns fellows we are importing poverty and chaos.
Bolivian OK they are poor so we can help them but have to be relocated were there is not overcrowded like in many provinces were population its very low.
Else its incoherent to call the Brits in the Islands Squatters after all the Bolivians, Peruvians, etc all are doing the same but in Buenos Aires.
I don like to be invaded by anyone, fellows that like this publish his address here please. 5.000 fellows Bolivians will be glad to visit you.
Like I said many times, Argentinians are some of the most prejudiced people I have ever lived around. Funny how you talk about all the illegals in your country then criticize the USA for deporting (flying) our illegals home, at least we don't beat them, burn down their houses and kill them like you do.
Dec 14th, 2010 - 01:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0http://www.canadianbusiness.com/markets/market_news/article.jsp?content=D9K3MOCG0
Nearby residents are furious. Desperate to prevent yet another slum from springing up next door, many grabbed weapons and ran into IndoAmerican Park, torching tents and chanting racist slogans. The squatters fought back, and at least three have died in waves of violence since the first land seizure last week, authorities said.
The deployment of almost 1,000 Border and Coast Guards last weekend seems to have imposed a tense peace on Villa Soldati for now but neither short-term nor long-term solutions are in sight. This conflict may not be on the scale of Iraq or Afghanistan but an exit strategy is just as hard to find — it is very simple to rush in troops nowadays but how do you pull them out? Nor does the continuing presence of security forces prevent incidents even now because it does not offer even a rough justice — instead the illegal squatters see themselves as protected against the backlash of more established residents of the neighbourhood.

They don't go because in Brazil or Chile they will be shot and they won't let them take other people's land. The worst approach to the Villa Soldati squatter problem is to politicize it, as the Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration seems intent on doing by pointing the finger at the rival Peronist ex-president Eduardo Duhalde while continuing to play the blame game with City Mayor Mauricio Macri (himself far from free of any guilt). What we have here is the social problem of an already severe housing shortage rendered more acute by inflation

Nico, A lot of people use their corporate Amex for personal expenses. I used to use mine all the time and I just paid my expenses with my own money and did an expense report for the rest. I was ultimately responsible for the bill because even though it was a corporate card it showed up in my credit report. That is the same thing Marco did and it is not corrupt.

“aren't you an illegal living in UK?”
Illegal????
I was living in UK but legally, where did you get that mate?
I never was illegal in any part of the world and you?
“I used to use mine all the time and I just paid my expenses with my own money and did an expense report for the rest”
That means that you are the Guarantor of that Credit Card not your employer, so that way you cannot abuse the company and your boss has to approve your expense report. If you don’t pay your personal expenses your credit will be harm not their credit.
But Marco Rubio problem is other he abuses the trust of his party as you can see from the statement of the party spoken person
“But party spokeswoman Katie Gordon said the card was not supposed to be used for personal expenses. The RPOF American Express card is a corporate card and is meant to be used for business expenses, she said when asked about the party's policy.”
So Rubio abused the Party’s policy and trust, and committed what we call here “malversación de fondos” (bad use of funds) Articulo 169 of the Penal Code.
Any trustee private or public servant that uses private or public funds previously approved used not affecting to the purpose intended in its previous approval.
For example your are a trustee of a fund to be used to buy medicine for your community and you buy cars for the police department. You have committed a violation of the 169 act or the PC. AKA corruption.
Nico, If there was corruption he would have been prosecuted so I guess there wasn't.

Dec 21st, 2010 - 12:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina’s ranking in The Wall Street Journal/Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom—now 135th out of the 179 countries ranked in the Index—has declined steadily in the seven years since President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her husband, former President Nestor Kirchner, took power. It is by far the lowest ranked G-20 nation. Recently Charles Krauthammer neatly summarized why: Argentina is “a chronically unstable, endemically corrupt polity with a rich history of dictatorship, economic mismanagement and the occasional political lunacy.

I’ve been living in many places and the only place much easier to set up a business (not tax heaven paradise included like Luxembourg) is in UK. Where at least was some year ago and has less regulations.
The rest including US is a mess to much regulations its the land for the Lawyer Industry.
So try to set up a business in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, UK, etc and Argentina and then you will see what useless its your WSJ index.
Here the analysis of the WSJ rubbish
US receives 91.3 on BUSINESS FREEDOM business takes six days (under the point of view of an American)
My fiend started her business in a week here in Argentina also but if you are a foreigner you will take more time.
The same as in US I was trying to just open an account in US some years ago and was impossible due to the regulations. Some states has its own tax and regulations what make a mess to operate within US.
Some countries like France, Spain, Italy (the worse) its nearly impossible to meet all regulation to set up a basic business. I know it very well none told me of WSJ rubbish.
While for Argentina was given 62.1
To set up a business in Argentina you don’t require 18 steps and 2018 days.
1-Incripction of your business in AFIP (Inland tax revenue) like in any part of the world. You get in the same day.
2-If you will deal with people like a shop, etc you need Habilitation of the place that has to be according with safety regulation according with your activity and a “libreta sanitaria” where all people involved in the business or dealing with people, food etc. are healthy. This is like the license. Depends where you want to put your business out side The City can take a week.
3- after that you get all and you need to go.
If you want to set up a forma society like SRL or SA (Inc, Corp, etc) you nee additional steps but this has nothing to do with business else law and legal contracts. And its much the same as in any other part of the world.
A couple things you left out of the Argentinian business set up is all the bribes you have to pay along the way to actually get doors open and then keep them open.
Dec 21st, 2010 - 10:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ooops did you forget about paying off the fire inspector and then have 100s of people die in a night club or maybe a building inspector and then the building falls down. Or maybe the weekly collections by the Police and the government officials just to keep your doors open. Or the customs agents to get your goods either in or out of the country. Nico, did you forget about all of those small details and payments?
I guess I should believe you rather than the WSJ. Loser.
@fredbdc
Dec 22nd, 2010 - 04:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0Are you always living in illegality?
I used to have different business in Argentina and only people that want to make things on the easy way or jumping the law look for to pay bribes. The same its in US or any other country in the world.
Like US and EU corporations like to do
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124329477230952689.html
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124329477230952689.html
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124329477230952689.html
US and EU multinationals and bankers are the source of global bribes and corruption on high level.
They are involved in any case of corruption Why? Because they offer to pay bribes to get contracts and to get favous for their business.
Do you think that people corrupted like Bernard Madoff its an exception in US?
My personal experience tells me that only corrupts complain about the bribes because the are willing to pay to get advantage over the legal guys.
So US its world record in corruption, bribery, crime, mafia and economic crime.
The whole US was build on this big fortunes made by smuggling, slavery, corruption, arms trafficking, Drugs and scam.
Like Mr. Ponzi from where comes the Ponzi scheme.
Everything can be buy in US offering a good amount of cash even justice.
It is the American way mate.
You know when you use the word mate you sound like an idiot don't you? You are using it like che or something and it is not the same. This is how I know you never lived in UK or US or anywhere else decent for that matter.

Even though I have to recognize that I’m not the best source for learning languages (I sucks) you are even worse than me mate.
About the mate,
The use of mate it a funny way to make a stereotype of Aussie (Australian) slang like in G’day mate. And stuff like that.
UK is full of Aussies and English use this (mate) some time as a way to make fun over the Aussies or even English. And it is used also in the country side of England.
Like happened with John Major (UK PM) in the ’90 when his administration was in a mess.
So some people joking pretending to ask to Major when the economy was ready to get out of recession he answered.
I don’t know mate.
You have to take a decision John.
I’m not sure mate.
For Assies and low class londoners its like our Che or like the use of the Italian ciò or the A fa... in French.
So mate you can use it in the way you want, mate.
Do you understand mate? Else see here http://en.mercopress.com/2010/12/22/ernst-young-accused-of-helping-lehman-brothers-hide-financial-problems?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=daily
BTW my ex girlfriend in UK was Australian and as she was English Professor in London she hated the use of mate. So I used a lot just for fun and to see how she got upset with my nasty English. Haha
You have never been in London because otherwise I shouldn’t be explaining this to you, mate.
So when you find someone using mate, tube (underground), Quids (Pounds), etc its quite English and from London mate.
