    From that map, it seems that Chávez considers Suriname as a part of Venezuela.

    Ok someone correct me (I'm sure you Brits will jump at the chance)

    Has Hugo Chavez declared war on anyone?
    Does he have “WMDs”?

    Why is the US so insecure?
    Why should we in South America give two shits what the US wants or thinks?
    They are the ones with stockpiles of WMDs, they are the ones meddling in everybody's business.

    THEY are the risk.

    Why is the US so insecure?

    The US is insecure because they are losing everything.

    Why should we in South America give two shits what the US wants or thinks?

    Never care what they think, just move on. Things will be fine without the US (except for the UK)

    @Martin

    Notice that the only reason provided to consider Mercosur as anti-American is that our governments are actively pursuing a national and regional identity that is independent from the US. The US is the most nationalistic country in the world. But when countries express nationalism or related feelings, they consider it anti-Americanism. The US government's mentality is one of extreme parochialism.

    I think we're well passed the point of independence from anyone, it's the other way around.

    What the hell does ANYBODY have that we don't have in South America?

    Advanced stealth fighters that everyone can see? Well why don't you have them from breakfast, lunch and dinner then you can complain of titanium poisoning instead of mad-cow decease.

    What the US has in abundance is fear, the budget they implement on defense expenditure is a f--king luxury for them, a drain, not a proportionally balanced budget at all.

    I like what Uruguay's president said recently, “Let’s stop Fooling Around and Spending so Much on Arms”, common sense.

    I'm not saying disarm, but focus on production and trade FIRST like Mercosur is doing. Notice how terrified that 'lucky charms' retard is of EU trading with Mercosur.

    Go fly a kite US.

    No ! this is not US style...their ambassadors only visit officially never do report,consider,think.

    We know ,Hugo is the cion of dread soldier grandpa and soldier dad.

    I have just 3 questions for Hugo Chavez ;

    1) why he sells oil to USA while cursing them on tv..,

    2) why his start to size show when Castro brothers falling into disfavor.,

    3) why he has twitter account instead of Mercopress &blog account....

    Venezuela is a country with an incredible amount of abject poverty, but with a lot of oil and a president quien es el manso payaso. Comrade Chavez has been trying to make Venezuela “self-sufficient” with the creation of textile factories, shoe factories, etc. They're propped up with oil money. This leads to....economic inefficiencies, you guessed right! Go walk through one of those factories and you'll see a bunch of “employed” people standing around doing nothing. So, his “plan” will ultimately fail. The reason he's been trying to support Gadafi so strongly is because he's afraid that the Venezuelan people will ultimately see that they have the same thing - a tyrant as a president who has been eroding freedoms and who is attempting to make it possible to be president for life.

    Of course US politicians see Mercosur as anti-*USA*

    What it is not is anti-American (anti-*South American*).

    USA citizens should remember that many nations across two continents are American, and these USA citizens do not have a God-given right to exploit the national back-yard of the many other American nations.

    Mercosur is absolutely needed to face-down arrogant, one-sided exploitation from the USA and (increasingly) China.

    Never was Mercosur more needed, but it needs to :
    (i) get its act together and
    (ii) to remember it is a TRADING entity and
    (iii) not the political entity that Chavez would have it be.
