Thousands of Argentines took to the streets of Buenos Aires and other cities Thursday evening under the slogan “Memory, truth and justice” to evoke 35 years of the last military coup that left a toll of an estimated 30.000 killed and disappeared detainees. Read full article

Mar 25th, 2011 - 11:03 am - Link - Report abuse 0this not true , just distraction tactic.
would it be the mask of the Army's frame-up ,quasi Malvinas
invasion operation April-2-1982 !!??
The 'disappeared' are well documented - what evidence do you have that it isn't true?
Mar 25th, 2011 - 12:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@4 very simple and let me describe it as follows ..... 1. the guy that killed Gral Villar had a restaurant in South Texas (reported missing) 2. one of the guys that was responsible for crossing arms from Uruguayana to Corrientes (montoneros) had a night club in Reynosa, Mexico (aslo missing) 3. 4 people were found (also montoneros) in the earth quake (reported missing) in 1987 .... Do I continue? those are people that I meet in person . Can you discount those from the 30,000?
Mar 25th, 2011 - 01:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Wonder how many of those marching were on the junta's side?
Mar 25th, 2011 - 01:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It's not very clear what you are getting at? Do you mean the whole list of disappeared was a fabrication?

@7 ... what I'm trying to say is that we had a war!! War against terrorism, the same war that the americans , british and other countries are fighting right now. In any war you have casualties so please Argentina don't give me the bullshit that all 30,000 (assuming that data is correct which i doubt !) are missing... some of them that claimed missing live somewhere else!!. That's what I'm saying! when an individual grabs a gun and kills policeman, innocent soldiers and kidnap people, those are not civilians , they are COMBATANTS !!

Very simple I say!:
Of course we can discount them!
Not necesary to name them by name. (Sweet of you to protect their privacy 35 years after:-)
We trust fully in the word of an Argentinean officer and a gentleman like you………..
30.000 – 6 = 29.994
But.......Please, please…..please........Continue the good work!
Only 29.994 missing now……..
I could give you some names..............................

Mar 25th, 2011 - 04:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0you all and i know that this social tumult has being only a mechanism.
the question is simple ;
why was the army attempt to Malvinas invasion -1982
to acquire the islands ? No ! then why ?
(a fake African country army doesn't even make this kind of operation)
the answer is complex.
The Answer isn't complex at all. They invaded the Falklands because they thought they could use the successful occupation to distract the Argentine people from what a mess they'd made of their own country....unfortunately for them and thanks to the British it was not successful and the regime fell because of that failure. I'm sure the British know that all your abuse on here is actually tongue-in-cheek and in truth you are all really grateful to them for nailing the lid on the Junta for you.
Mar 25th, 2011 - 05:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@10. were the Falklands a terrorist threat in 82 then? you're full of crap mate.
OK ONE AT A TIME!!
Mar 25th, 2011 - 06:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@13 i'm not talking about Malvinas at all !! and back then I did not agree with the operation BUT I'm not discussing that right now
@ Think ! when are we going to have the pleasure to send the terrorist to justice like they did it to us ???? Never! do you know why? because they are part of the existing government. Like I encountered a couple of people (missing) but very much alive , I'm pretty sure you cann find more somewhere else !! Viva la Patria Carajo !!!!!!!!!!

Mar 25th, 2011 - 06:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You say:
”Think ! When are we going to have the pleasure to send “the terrorist” to justice like they did it to us ????
I say:
You had your ”pleasure” boy……. From 1976 to 1983…… You certainly had your ”pleasure”.
You say:
”Like I encountered a couple of people (missing) but very much alive, I'm pretty sure you can find more somewhere else”
I say:
For each ”missing” you could find alive, I could find five unreported missing persons during the years you had the ”pleasure” of imparting your ”justice” on all of us.
Didn’t your comrades of the “Task Groups” (Grupos de Tareas) ever told you what they did when they got bored from the political prisoners?
Didn’t your comrades of the “Task Groups (Grupos de Tareas) ever told you how they went out hunting for some fresh meat in the shanty towns?
Didn’t your comrades of the “Task Groups (Grupos de Tareas) ever told you about the young “negritas”, “parditas” or “bolitas” they snatched to serve them mate, clean the fuc**** place, have some “extreme fun” and then make disappear?
Did they?
Did you?
?
I am in two minds:
Mar 25th, 2011 - 07:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0(i) I lived through and admired the work of Simon Wiesethal in remorselessly, and over a long life, hunting down his every last German/Austrian nazi until he breathed his last breath.
(ii) I lived through and admired the work of Nelson Mandela who, after many years of incarceration, pressed for the Peace and Reconciliation process after the amnesty followed the collapse of Apartheid in South Africa.
In Argentina - following, arguably, high-grade state terrorism - there is the worst of all worlds - amnesties, de-amnesties, amnesties, de-amnesties; freedom through forgiveness, punishment and incarceration, freedom through forgiveness, punishment and incarceration.
In Brasil, A Presidenta wants to overturn the amnesy afforded to all participants, but only to bring charges against the military side (lower-grade state terrorism?) - the terroristas/freedom fighters are given pensions for their contribution.
One-sided de-amnistification seems to be the worst of the worst of all worlds, but it is perhaps understandable because so many international terrorist/revolutionaries are in high government office in a number of South American nations.
Mandela has set the bar very high indeed, but can ANY South American nation clear it. It is, perhaps, just the sign of political and social maturity that the United Nations is looking for.
. . . . Time, I think to sit back and wait for my mate Forgetit to show me other sides to these many histories.

Mar 26th, 2011 - 10:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0It's amazing. No-one was on the junta's side. And no-one supported the Falklands operation. All those tens (or more) of thousands of people celebrating in the streets were figments of the imagination. Selective amnesia. Very common in many psychiatric cases. No doubt explains why Argentina has so many psychiatrists.
Mar 26th, 2011 - 10:48 am - Link - Report abuse 0Let us not forget that, had the unsupported Falklands operation been fully successful, i.e. had Britain not responded with military force, the next part of the plan was the seizure of the Beagle Channel islands already ruled to belong to Chile by the Court of Arbitration in 1977. Another unsupported action that would, no doubt, have resulted in dancing in the streets.

Hey Artillero…………..
You being such a good detective……….
Could you find me Marina’s and Diana’s babies?
@42 you are right but on every story there 2 sides ... we didn't start the fight . Started in 1962 and the cold war with Russia expanding the empire and marxism in Central and South America. This was not a problem with Argentina only as you know. I disagreed with the Junta (as you called it) to take over the government, our duty was to destroy the uprising and bring peace to our citizens. You as an English man (I think) condemned the attack on 1982 and I respect that but we are talking about 2 very distinct issues here. We fought for freedom, we won the war but we lost battle. Armed forces should not run the country period !!. Its a very complex issue that if you come to Texas, you are invited for a awesome BBQ to discuss it

@47 - No Martin, mercopress is an international news site, hence the international section under the Regions tab at the top of the page. They like most newspapers that report international news prefer english langauge and as the site owners it is upto them what langauge is allowed for comments, and most prefer english.

@Think .... the moment that you people send the killers of Gral Aramburu, Cnl Larrabure, Capt Viola .....and Tcnl Gonzalez Cutielos (heroe of La Tablada) to jail , I will help you find whatever you are looking for !!!!!!!!
Martin your post #47 shows your biased view against anyone writing in english or any other langauge other than spanish it also shows a complete lack of respect you have for people that do not know spanish and the rules of this site. Your second post #49 shows your childish arrogance and how quick you are to throw insults at people.
Mar 26th, 2011 - 09:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I was simply pointing out to you that the site is a global website, it is an english one hence www.en. at the start of the web address, and that merco press as a global news site based in south atlantic and they choose to use english as they are trying to establish themselves as global news agency. Critising me and throwing insults at me, for pointing that out to you is just childish and immature.
You say you weren't talking to us guys, sorry but as this is a public comment board you are talking to everyone that reads the comments. i do not mind you talking spanish as i can translate it, so it doesn't actually bother me what langauge you speak. I unlike you do not disrespect people for their choice of langauge so long as it is not insultive, vulgar or offensive.
Your reaction was simply way over the top. And as for insecure little man. Well am a multi-millionaire businessman (yep pretty secure financial and pyschologically) am 14 stone in weight, 6 feet 3 inches tall and a former amateur kickboxer (still practicing but no longer competitively). So lets see you call me a insecure little man to my face, and i'll show you just how wrong you are. You see i stand up to bullies like you and its funny how after 1 roundhouse to the head they either don't get up for a while or they get up and flee as fast as their legs can carry them.

Mar 26th, 2011 - 10:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Uh, by the way... I thought Mercopress was run from Uruguay. the site is a global website, it is an english one hence www.en
I knew all along it was a Brit site, it's just funny how you clowns keep contradicting each other, senile dementia I guess.
The 'en' is referring to the language not the country, the Spanish version is/was es.mercopress.com, if there was an Italian version in would be it.mercopress.com
Mar 27th, 2011 - 12:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0I agree that it does have a bit of a bias in favour of the Falklanders. Do you also point out bias when it is anti-Brit/Falklander on Spanish language sites covering similar topics?
Obviously Argentine media will support the Argentine perspective, but you won't find an Argentine news agency pretending to be from someplace else just to appear neutral. Also pick any Argentine newspaper, I'll tell you exactly where its corporate office is located... no need to hide its location, they're exactly where they say they are.
Mar 27th, 2011 - 01:55 am - Link - Report abuse 0Think says that he had a conversation with the owner and that he's from Uruguay, he's(Think that is) not generally known for his pro-Brit bias, so, rightly or wrongly, I take that at face value.

Mar 29th, 2011 - 05:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Please… No insults …….
I would rather slit my wrists open with a pencil eraser than consider the possibility of having anything to do with the SIDE.
My ”educated guesses” are just deduced from info you provided:
Your nick….: Artillero601…. Ergo: Army…… Ergo: CMN
Your dichotomy between genuine interest / preset bias about recent Argentinean history + your anger but no “messianic hate” against the “zurditos”…. ..Ergo: Camada posterior al 83.
Your casual “Name Dropping” when giving your Email…….. (I must confess, it hit me as a 155mm)…. Last “Uniform” I knew with that surname didn’t like us at all. (nor the Chileans)
what did it hit you like a 155 mm ? (CITER or SOFMA) 20 km or 30 km with special ammo? was a Direct or INDIRECT artillery fire? was the FO (forward observer ) close to you or was directed by satellite? Are you saying that my last name is associated with Mario or Luciano Benjamin?? .....jajajaja!!!

Did the ones who dissapered understand the word Martial law? Everyone remember the ones who dissapeared. But what about the kidnappings, the robberies, bombs in schools, killing foreign companies executives....sabotaging naval ships, attacking military bases...etc.
