    Teaboy,

“Served us”? lol ...I thought you said you were American, you said so when I told you the US provided satellite info to the UK in 1982.

Are you having some kind of identity crisis? ;-)

Get lost Gloucester, you leave in shame after having Uruguay KICK YOU OUT

I think that HMS Gloucester will not have to have for a long time, brits! Cameron was cutting everything and the next is to defend the Malvinas Islands.

Ah... the shame, the SHAME! Getting kicked out by a tiny little country like Uruguay. If you're lucky Gloucester will end up in some undignified Turkish pile of rubbish just like “Invincible”.

    The shame... ;-)

5 - You're right, it says it right there in the link “......David Cameron went on to say ”First we're cutting everything, next is to defend (sic) the Malvinas Islands“”

I think it might be wishful thinking on your part, the political repercussions of doing such, wouldn't be worth the money saved.

Let's say you're right though, and the Falklands are left defenseless. Would Argentina then take them by force? Despite all the talk of gaining sovereignty peacefully, and the constitution stating that the claim is pursuant to international law?

Is the 'peaceful means' talk just to seem like the good, peace-loving guys, because they wouldn't be able to take them by force?

I've got 'briton' all figured out at this point... he lives in his own fantasy playing battleship in his head.

They still don't get it, there won't be a war... you can't fight reason with fire, so save your childish roleplaying nonsense to yourself.

As a Brit living in Argentina, the last thing I want is another war.

I'd personally prefer them to be an independent nation, but I'm not a Kelper, so what I'd personally prefer is irrelevant.

If Argentina did somehow successfully gain control of the Falklands, how would you prevent their inevitable declaration of independence? Would the support that you have be as sympathetic to the same rhetoric against a newly formed country of the Americas, as they would against an old-colonial power?

    Mar 27th, 2011 - 02:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0
  • Martin_Fierro

If they want to declare full independence why don't they do it now? Because they want to be British. The UK granted them full British citizenship.

The only reason the islanders would declare independence is to prevent Argentina from taking over, not because they want independence.

What Argentina will say is: Oh NOW you want independence, well you had your chance. Didn't you?

    13 -

I'll answer your questions in order (sorry if the answers are a bit brief, I'm on my to bed!)

How long are you living in Argentina? - About 5 years

Are you happy there? - Yes, very, the levels of inflation at the moment are putting us under a bit of a strain, but we're getting by and are happy here

Why you chose to Argentina to live - Love (the sunshine is also a bonus!)

What is city are you from? - In Britain, I'm from the countryside near to Bristol in the south west, in Argentina we live in the city of Córdoba

@ Martin just so your aware it would not make a shred of difference if Teaboy was British or American. HMS Gloucester has served both countries outstandingly it was Gloucester that shot down a silkworm missile that was headed for the USS Misouri in 1991.

Getting kicked out of Uruguay? To my knowledge the ship didn't even dock in Uruguay! Didn't take long to spot that flaw!

Tut and if they didn't want us there, why would we go barging into a country we historically have had no beef with :)

I quite sympathise with the Uruguayans on this one though, their only a small country and the southern neighbours are a very very sensitive people over this issue, the last thing the UK would want is to get Uruguay in trouble over absolutely nothing.

Yet another example of Martin logic - if something did not happen, say it happened and hopefully those around are stupid enough to believe it :)

“What Argentina will say is: Oh NOW you want independence, well you had your chance. Didn't you?”

I'm kind of curious about your logic...how can YOU define whether WE have a choice about independence? the choice is ours whenever we want to make it, what motivates us is no concern of yours Martin.

15 - Mirá vos! My mother in law lives in Cerro, it's a nice area. I'm a country boy at heart, so Córdoba is nice in that it doesn't take long to get to the Sierras. La Serranita is one of my favourite places on earth. In the other direction, and a bit further away, I'm also very fond of San Marcos Sierras.

    mmmmm possibly ones own.
the only reason their wont be another war between the UK and Argentina
is because you are in no condition to fight, you lost once and you will lose again, you do not have the stomach to fight, great big peaceful Argentina will lose again and again, that’s why you wish to do it peacefully, it has nothing to do with [im anti violent so a man of peace] as Argentina tries to convince others, then every week or so shoots herself in the foot,, as for my own wonderland , even in a reduce stat the British would wipe the floor with Argentina, but of course this does not mean there will never be another war, those military, troops are not down their to sunbath, they are their , as you well know, because Argentina cannot be trusted,
perhaps the day will come when Argentina renounces violence , and gives up the Falklands, but by then we will all be dust, including our dreams ??

Martin- once yet again- get your facts first! HMS Gloucester was NEVER actually thrown out of Uruguay!
FACT- She had some time before been GIVEN permission to make a courtesy port call. On that Sunday afternoon - she was in the outer entrances and a mere 3 hours away from docking - a weak wet little Pres Mujica, in response to bully messages and threats from Argentina over river Plate dredging and other issues - went in an unmarked car to try and hide from his own people and press v- direct to the home of the British Ambassador and asked himn to please signal the ship to turn around and head away- as otherwise he would basically be in the pooh with her Ladyship! Hell there was even a Uruguyan supply company down at the dock with several tons of Uruguyan Beef ready to go onboard- bet he was chuffed with his little president!

Result- Uruguay very embarrassed with egg all over its face. HMS Gloucester 3 days later in the Falklands restocking with fresh provisions some I hear even came from Uruguay anyway!

Do try with facts one day- your postings on these pages are so amusing!

, As for Belize they were given independence, and within weeks their neighbour started its childish behaviour just like Argentina will, , Belize asked us to come back to help them, the mere fact the British were there stopped, it in it tracks, some countries laugh at us, stupidity is never far away, but talk is all they do, like kittens that tease, but run away later.
so the point is, at this stage it does not matter if the Falklands were independent or not, the pure fact that Argentina would pounce as soon as the brits left, just shows they cannot be trusted, and just like Belize’s neighbours, the fact that the British military is present is enough to frighten the kittens away, as long as Argentina threatens the freedom of the islands, the British will be there, and as we have a longer resolve than they do, its going to be a interesting future

@ briton... when you say Argentina cannot be trusted, please refer to the government not the people. Not everybody agrees with the K's, in a matter of fact nobody does BUT she wins elections and that's very sad. As an ex military officer, the conflict of 82 was a lesson. Is it going to happen again, I don't really think so. Lisandro de la Torre said in the 30's , Argentina is the most loyal subject of the British Empire. How do we jump from that to today's reality?? you tell me .....

to all bloggers, and they all agree with you [majority rule]
then I may reconcider my position. thank you.
untill then i will refer to argentina, as argentina, because if you ever bothered to read the bloody bloggs you would see that sometime i say argentine people and sometimes just argentina, like the cowboys used to say, i have not got the time or inclination to seperate the cows from the bulls, yours,,sincerly briton, ???????????????????

@54 - Now Martin why on earth would i be angry about someone elses comments being removed? Will truth is, i am not. As i know the comments were removed as they may have been libellous i.e and opinion of truth backed up without facts to prove the opinion is true and therefore making the opinion a false opinion of a person or entity. Oh and mercopress are liable for such comments being posted, therefore they in order to avoid cost's of legal proceedings against them must remove such libelous comments. Comment boards are not for making false opinionative statements of people of entities (libellous) but for expressing and “opinion of the facts” of an article/subject and debating subjects constructively and in a non libellous or unlawful way/manner. If i called you an idiot, would that be libellous, no as am referring you to an idiot based on the evidence of your posts here (posts being the evidentual facts supporting my opinion) and as others here, who are of reasonable nature and intelligence support my opinion that your an idiot, proves that you are indeed an idiot.

mercopress is not the fake Martin, the existence of their website and company proves they are not fake. Though as Zethee pointed out, “if the lable fits ware it” as i do not think anyone here, other than your argie (also idiot) chums, would disagree with you for wearing the label “Fake” lol.

@62 - Old news marcos, the number personnel likely to be made redudant (not sacked) has been known for quite a while now, the redundancy are happening in stages september being one of them. It has not yet been decided who the actual 2,000 will be, hence why they are letting them all know they “COULD” be one of the 2,000 made redundant.

Point id Marcos, even with the cuts to the military, our military will still be the 5th most powerful in the world, where's argentina's at the moment are 2 places behind the philipines at 33.

Heres some facts for you “British influence can still be observed in the language, culture and legal systems of many of its former colonies. Though not a world super power anymore UK is still very powerful. UK is world’s 6th biggest economy with a $2.1 trillion GDP. The UK is one of the world’s most globalised countries. London is the world’s largest financial centre alongside New York, has the largest city GDP in Europe and is home to the headquarters of more than 100 of Europe’s 500 largest companies. The aerospace industry of the UK is the second- or third-largest aerospace industry in the world, depending upon the method of measurement. UK has the 4th biggest nuclear arsenal consisting of 160/225 Nuclear Weapons. UK has the world’s 3rd biggest military budget of $69 billion. The British armed forces are the second largest military in the EU in terms of professional personnel and reserves. Also the UK has the largest air force and navy in the European Union and the second largest in NATO. UK has the second highest power projection capability in the world, behind the United States.” Qouted from Exploredia

Argentina thinks the UK is an insignificant tiny island, but it appears the rest of the World disagrees.

Argentina should learn something from that when they ridicule the tiny population of 3,000 Islanders and proudly tell everyone that in comparison they number 40 million and are therefore more important.

Precedent would indicate the opposite, so does all the verifiable history, and the UN Human Rights Charter.

Argentina is a bit player, an also ran, a corrupt emotionally driven sideshow, and a joke every time it trots out its manufactured propaganda 20th Century Fascist Peronist Brown Shirt Big Lie on the International stage; at least any reasonable person would agree with that assessment.
