International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has resigned following allegations he sexually assaulted a hotel maid in New York. In a statement, Mr Strauss-Kahn, 62, said he had already informed the executive board of his intention to step down “with immediate effect”. Read full article

Was financing of the alleged act offered from private funds or from international sources?

It would be interesting to know if the woman (un-named) is a visitor, a citizen, a Green Card, or an illegal.
I don't know how the law varies in its sentencing and severity; perhaps it differs depending on the status of the accuser.

Presumably the carpet has been taken away for forensic search for knee-marks,
or blood from a hard-bitten member of the IMF.

Geo, she's not a visitor, if you did your homework. If she is a green card holder, I don't know..nobody knows since you cannot ask for status in NYC. It's against the law. If she's illegal, we don't know, the media is pro illegal alien and they cannot ask (not even fox news asked that question yet)..but if she's an illegal alien, then the illegal alien crisis only get worse..or whatever. DSK is toasted and will be jailed here in the US or in France.
