British Labour MP Jim Dobbin is the new chairman of the All Party Gibraltar Group in the Commons. Mr Dobbin, elected at a meeting of the group Monday, takes on the position held by Eleanor Laing MP who resigned to take on the role of the Coalition Government’s special Gibraltar envoy with the MOD.

Mr Dobbin, a regular visitor to the Rock and longstanding supporter emphasised the continued “strong and stable” support for Gibraltar from all parties in the Commons.

“We are here to support the people of Gibraltar and to make sure we liaise and act on their behalf,” he is quoted by the Gibraltar Chronicle.

He said the support for Gibraltar has always been strong and they will see it continues to be so.

It was also revealed that the deputy Speaker and former chairman of the Group Lindsay Hoyle was appointed the group’s first ever President.
