Uruguay made a long list of objections to the environment impact assessment study presented by the Aratiri mining project which plans open-pit extraction of magnetite (ferrous component) from vast resources in Valentines, the heart of the South American country. Read full article

    Like most EIAs these days, the authorities throw them back for 're-working' - this shows the people that the authorities are REALLY DOING THEIR JOB.
    Though this is the primary intent, there has never been an EIA yet that cannot be improved. Sometimes the points brought up by the petitioners are really important.
    Usually EIA revisions are costed in to the project.
