With 30+ countries involved in this EU-Mercosur agreement, there will always be half a dozen countries in an election year.

Nothing will ever happen if this is an allowed constraint.

Trading Blocs should recognise this and agree internally a concessions structure to bring advantage back to those most disadvantaged by the electoral cycle. This allows trade agreements to actually happen (We have been waiting 10 years for this one!).

The optimum strategy would be to harmonise all national elections across all trading blocs - herding cats comes to mind.

With any luck the EU will have either imploded or exploded by October. Europe will become immeasurably more wealthy by not having to pay all the useless eurocrats. Then we can go on to explain to Argentina that we really don't want any of their cr*p. And that they are welcome to keep it and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Typhoon's as vulgar and dumb as ever. The EU/Mercosur round of negotiations are a two way street; both blocs have an interest to export to the other. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the EU was the one who first manifested interest in the trade agreement, just like the WTO's Doha Round of negotiations of the early 2000s was organized by developed countries interested in increasing their manufactured exports to developing ones, and failed because those same 1st World countries didn't want agricultural products from 3rd World - that is, they only wanted to export, not to import. (It was for a similar reason that the FTAA didn't take off.)

So, Typhoon, if you don't want Britain to export products from Argentina or other 3rd World countries, then ask your government officials to stop offering UK products to other countries, too. For no one will accept an imbalanced agreement where you only do the importing but won't export anything.

    18 Malvinero1 “Sure,britton....we have a poet....still, EUROPE, as a civilization is OVER!!”

Interesting point, but it is questionable:

All countries, through globalisation, are loosing their distinctive differences that define them as distinct 'civilisations' (as you put it).

Can a continent (Europe) be described as a single civilisation? I doubt it.

A civilisation is something that does not just 'happen' - where you wake up one day and say “Hey, we have a civilisation; I am civilised!”
It is the amalgam of centuries of experience and common values. Thus, we can say that South and North America are merely transposed European civilisations. We can call the indigenous tribal communities of the two continents 'civilisations', but that begs the question of Level of Development necessary to be afforded the title.

The contemporary British experience, within Europe, is one of new civilisations transposing from elsewhere (esp. the Indian sub-continent) and existing alongside the pre-existing civilisation of the UK - the celtic, anglo, Saxon, etc sub-civilisations having merged centuries ago.

So, the question is - has colonised South America evolved far enough to be considered a civilisation, to be considered civilised, and to be considered as sufficiently different from its (Iberian) roots for it to be a separate and distinct entity.

To Briton (about comment #15) you said: “i think you will find argentines went to spain, not the other way round”. Yes, lots of argentines are leaving the country looking for a better live. Most of them go to Spain and US.
But, there are some Spaniards coming to Argentina. People with University's degrees and work-experience in special areas where you don't find local people with these knowledge.
Also I know about a few from England that moved to Argentina, same reason.
Right now in Argentina nearly 45% is unemployed or sub-employed but, 50% of big companies have great problems to find employees with the knowledge and experience needed in today markets.
Also, most of argentines going to Spain get documents as spaniards because they have parents or grandparents spaniards (Spain's Law let it), same in Italy.

LAst year 45000 Spaniards came to Argentina,to make a living.
    45% unemployed/ you are wrong,is about 7.5%
If this is the reality you live......
no wonder, you have all the Malvinas history, plus the geographycal and juridical reasons all WRONG!!
You live in Mendoza? Are you unemployed?

I live in Tucuman, and Tucuman is Boooming!
The industry, and the farm sectors are booming!
Soybean prices around $550/Ton.plus the Sugar Cane, and the ethanol industry, plus the lemmon price(by the way Tucuman is the largest producer of Lemmons,in the world, over 1.3 Million Tons) is at all time high.Tucuman, produces more lemmons than California.
Rob: You can leave the uk,and work for them....It will take 2 generations for the uk to repay the Huuuuge debt(uk 3 largest debtor in the world.)...
