This grown man was living at home with his Mama. No doubt, hating the world and using right-wing extremist views to justify his inability to fit in with society. A classic sociopath.

Can we, just for once, debate a news story without turning into an excuse to hurl insults at other contributors? However much I disagree with the views of some of the posters here, I cannot believe any of them would pick up a gun and shoot dead innocent children. Let's have a little mature perspective here.

but you are correct, a very sad thing,

yet no one has yet comeforward, .
so at this time the police do not yet know if it was a lone killer, , a group,
or others, but no doubt in the next few weeks, the truth will emerge,.
but it does show us all, that no one is safe, and its always the innocent that suffer, ,

3 Think (#)------ No you tosser, there is not a parallel with British posts on here, don't forget you tosser that Britain has had more than its fair share of terrorists atrocity's over the years, many of them far worse than what has happened in Norway, and to link this to us is downright offensive. But then I think that's what you calculatedly thought to do with out a second thought to the people in Norway.

And never forget that the country that you support calculatedly decided to terrorise a couple of thousend people on a small island 30 years ago and in doing so cost the lives of over 1,000 men. Now that's what I call an aggressive nature.

No matter were we live in the world we should always be on guard for atrocities like what happened in Norway, no country is safe as we have just found out.

Think - please indiacte who exactly you are talking about when you are comparing us to a Fascist who has bombed a city and murdered a load of children!

I think you will find that posters such a “I”, “Flipflop” and the long gone “Jorge” are the ones advocating the killing of innocents. Jorge himself said he wanted Al Qaeda to kill people in the UK!

I have ten Norwegain friends from my UG days and thankfully none of them have been affected (Facebook was my reassurance on that).

So before you use this awful event to have a dig at some Brits you happen to dislike then perhaps “think” about what you would feel like if a similar thing happened in Argentina.

I have no doubt there will be many lessons to learn from this tragedy. However, if this is a radicalised, racist loner with a grudge against the world and severe personality disorder then it is almost impossible to prevent. Prominent, outspoken groups are much easier to watch by the intelligence services. Sociopaths living in their parent's basement and spouting venom anonomously on the internet is much harder to monitor.

Marcos - this has nothing to do with UK and Argentina relations/actions so stop trying to even bring it into the discussion, it is rather dismissive and offensive to those that have lost their lives in this tragedy. Calling the UK gvt extremist is rather far fetched given how many people From all accross the world come to the UK for protection.

There are extremists in every country and of various political (left and right) and or religious persuasions. You no doubt have some in Argentina and many have shown up on these forums (although Think decided to ignore that fact).

If you wish to talk about how such events can be prevented then go ahead but bringing you personal grievances against the UK into this story is very disrespecful to those that lost their lives.

This man doesn't seem sociopathic. Sociopaths act out of self-interest. They usually derive some economic benefit from their actions or simply get off from breaking rules. Moreover, they tend to be sociable people, not ill-adjusted loners. This man's motivation wasn't egotistic, it was political. He may have been moved into action by societal changes - more specifically, demographic and cultural changes - that displeased him. But that doesn't make him a sociopath or even an uncommon person. Many in Europe and the US - in fact, an increasing number of people - are subscribing to views and feelings likely held by the shooter (anti-Islamism, hostility to immigrants) as a result of similar social processes. That is natural and common. What is uncommon is to act out like that man did.

freedom of the press is alive and well in the Argentine, just one example is, The Clarin group was blacklisted by the current Cristina Fernandez administration when they openly supported the 2008 farmers’ strike, one of her government’s major setbacks.
Clarin is the Spanish language newspaper with the largest circulation in the world. But as I said before this is not the time or place to be trying to score points, I say this not to score points but to make a point, there is no country that dose not have a dark-side to it's past. As some have said here, there is no free speech when the rich and corporate own the media outlets, incl. the internet. Elaine, we do not have free speech in reality. Most of it is bought and paid for by the global rich, who are, indeed, sociopaths. The guy that killed those 90 kids may have a serious personality disorder, for sure, along with an OD of testosterone and a shortage of serotonin. He and everyone near him suffers from a penny-pinching society which doesn't treat mental illnesses, let only even recognize personality disorders as a mental isllness -- something requiring years of behavioural therapy and/or enforced hospitalization for the safety of all others. I believe alcoholics and addicts of all sorts fit the bill for enforced treatment, and incarceration, if required, to save the rest of us from their actions. No kidding. One alcoholic can ruin the lives of 12 other people on average--his family, his workplace, and anyone else affected by his actions. That goes for women addicts, too. It's like being held hostage. Go to AA or Adult Children of alcoholics for more info. By the way, gambling and greed and sex addictions are just as destructive.

“There you go again forgetit, do you want me to google Brazil right wing groups? and get you all upset again”

People react to social changes - this is not some European or American only thing, it is a human thing. I know that in Argentina many have anti-immigration views and dislike people of Peruvian and Bolivian background. I know that in Brazil people in the wealthier areas, ike São Paulo, dislike other Braziliam migrants from poorer areas, such as the Northeast. I don't need to be lectured about it by the likes of you, a hypersensitive know-nothing that will see every less-than-complimentary comment on the social situation of your country as a provocation. And again: I don't think hostility to those different from us is an American or European thing only. It is a human thing. I'm just stating that that man's views - more specifically his anti-Islam fundamentalism - are not uncommon in the US and Europe, since they have experienced Muslim immigration and demographic changes that aren't favourable to traditional groups. In the context of the economic crisis, such feelings are likely to become even more common and intense. (And yeah, if South Americ experimented those same processes, there'd be equal reaction as those seen in Europe - happy?). But please, do not flood this thread with random links. And I ask you that, not because I care about what you post, but because there actually is a discussion in this thread, and it would be pity to drag it down to the level of your dumb polemics. I thought we had Nuclear Subs in 1982, and that we took the decision to only ever have Nuclear Weapons on Subs.

Since these subs can be anywhere on the planet, and can launch from about 3500 miles away, why would you suggest we even have one in the South Atlantic? Such information is secret isn't it? You'll be saying we're creating an un-balance in the South Pacific next, as that would appear to be within a 3500 mile range of Argentina.

You're off your trolley Think, and having a bad day is a feeble excuse.

61 Monty69 My mistake, Typhoon/harrier61 actually answered Clare's comment and treat to use nukes on Argentinean citizens.
    Here is Clare from Malvinas:
    Clare Cockwell
    06/08/2011 09:59 PM
” This is utterly outrageous. There is nothing positive in the approach of Argentina to the Falkland Islands. They are deliberately trying to wreck our fishery (and their own), they refuse to allow charter flights in or out of the islands via South America, and they have pressured their neighbours into joining them in refusing to admit shipping en route to the Falklands, all in an effort to sabotage our economy. They seem to think it will make them more appealing!
Here is Typhoon/harrier 61 answer and treat:

“Don't worry. The British people will NEVER desert you. And neither will the British government. Because the people of Britain won't permit it.
Argentina is heading for several nukes.”

As a matter of fact, this Anti-Argentinean Justiciar Knight, under the pseudonyms of “typhoon”/“harrier61”/“conqueror”/“agent0060” did post a comment on the Irish Sun newspaper last year, volunteering to travel to South America to personally kill anybody that didn’t accept the official British position about the Malvinas Islands……………….as you can read below:

    79 Think Sep 19th, 2010
………………“Harrier61”, “Conqueror” and “Typhoon” share the same email as our good old friend and MercoPress poster: “Agent0060”
You can find “Agent0060” (Brian Riches) email in the comments section of the following Irish Sun article:
    story.irishsun.com/index.php/ct/9/cid/3a8a80d6f705f8cc/id/622599/cs/1/
There he expresses some niceties as:
““I will be glad to travel to South America and execute potential terrorists, i.e. anyone incapable of accepting FIG and UK sovereignty.”……………….
    http://en.mercopress.com/2010/09/16/nato-presence-in-south-atlantic-inappropriate-says-brazil

After a quick search I found out that such statements are an infringement of the following British legislation:
    The Terrorism Act 2000
The Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001
The Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005
    The Terrorism Act 2006
    The Counter-Terrorism Act 2008.

Unluckily for him, the Irish Sun also published his real name and Email……
Needles to say, he was reported to the proper authorities….
I wouldn’t recommend him to embark on that Malvinas Cruise he is so keen on taking…… Any stopover in South America could be longer than expected…

    Ps:
I can see that the Irish Sun has recently erased the above mentioned comment from Agent0060

I still believe this was the work of a lone person with a severe personality disorder who sat at his computer spilling out hatred against the world. His paranoia is apparent in the 1500 page manifesto he spend hour perfecting and numerous raving rants he posted on the internet.

His narcissistic personality is evident in his attempts to justify his murderous actions by hitching his psychosis to a political wagon. He is not a political martyr, he is a murderer.

He is not the first or last person to seek a home for their anti-social hatred by supporting extremist organisations. But he murdered in his own name and wants all the credit. He said as much in his online rants. He accepts he did it but refuses to accept he did anything wrong. That is sociopathic, narcissistic personality disorders in classic form.

Sadly, the maximum prison term he can serve under Norwegian law is 21 years. He should be locked away from the society he so hates forever. There is no cure for the type of personality disorder he has that turned him into a self-justifying murderer.

@79 Apparently Norway has only had one other mass killer and he was released in 2005/6, I think, because he had served the maximum term. I don't know what they do with the criminally insane. Maybe they can be locked up indefinitely.

The term 'sociopath' is used to cover a variety of anti-social personality traits. With all personality disorders, there are degrees; From the conman who will take without remorse, to the rare extremes that result in killing. One thing that is known is that there is no cure. I once read a study that asserted that one in twenty people have some kind of personality disorder. I have met a few but nowhere near that percentage. : )

@ 83 I can understand the point you are making. That extremist groups fuelled his hatred, possibly encouraged it and certainly gave it a focus.

My point is that he is a seriously flawed person who acted for his own personal reasons. If he had not made his anti-multiculturalism and animosity towards the Norwegian government his excuse, he would have chosen another vehicle for his purpose. Maybe a religious or anti-establishment cause. Because, ultimately, this is all about him and his desired notoriety.

    Hello all.
Boy things have moved on since I left yesterday from 57-up to109,,.
    Just been reading them all,
    ElaineB
I bet you have not replied so much , as you have on this subject,
    Very interesting answers,
    Sergio Vega
Your point has a very good ring to it,
And the rest of you, very interesting, abet some of topic,
But as I said yesterday, some very odd and unexplained things happen,
    That even I don’t understand,
They say he was affiliated to some right wing organisations,
And definitely anti-Muslim, why then did he kill Norwegians
Deliberately as opposed to other minorities.,
Like Sergio Vega said that Europe is becoming musmlimized,
But again is this not down to politicians [again] self-greed and self-serving
By letting in far too many, far too quickly perhaps,,
But as for his actions, [from his point of view] he probably, justified it .
But from the view of justice, do we think he will be properly punished,
For his despicable crimes, if the prison system in Norway is politically correct, and cushy,
How can that be claimed as punishment, and today another nut in the USA kills five,
What is this violent world coming to,
Are government’s being to lenient on these organisations
, and should they crack down even harder,
Many questions can and will be answered in the coming months,
    Thanks, ,,,

I think it is important to keep these, albeit terrible, events in perspective. The majority of people in all countries are moderate, law-abiding and intent on trying to live a good life. The price of a free and liberal society is that occasionally extreme sociopaths will commit atrocities. (This is only the second mass killing in Norway outside of a war). But I hope it does not lead to change in Norway. Security at the price of liberty is a debt too high to pay.

It is interesting that the criminal accepts no responsibility and shows no remorse. He claims he had to do it and seeks to justify his actions in any number of spurious ways.

I took some time out today to read some reports on this man and, if the information is to believed, he showed all the classic signs of a disaster waiting to happen. Easy to say after the event, I know.

Sure he is likely to be punished but I am also sure he will retain a following of other disaffected, social misfits to feed his ego.

(btw I posted more on this thread because it mostly stayed on topic and with minimum personal insults. Usually I move away when it gets too ugly. : ) )

To say the events in Norway compare with Britain protecting a population that has democratically chosen to remain British is incredibly disrespectful to those who died, their families and friends and to Norway as a country. This obsessive and rascist behaviour to Britain is truly getting out of hand Argentines. Your uncanny ability to lay the blame of everything negative in this world on Britain is getting tedious. Britain has done many things in this world, good and bad, but to say their protection of the Falklands is terroism? This is getting beyond a joke. Argentines were pretty low in my estimations, but you keep continuing to sink to new lows. You are making yourself look stupid. But by all means, keep it up, it only gives us the morale high ground, along with our democratic right, as well as the right for self-determination.

115 M_of_FI Read my comment @28 without your British imperialistic glasses.
What I said is that Britain uses state terrorism to hold a small colony in Argentina sending nuclear submarines to our coast, warships and more to treat a democratic nation with small or no existing armed forces who renounced violence to solve the Malvinas dispute.
And by the way isn't Britain , or it was recently in one case, bombing civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya? I know UK always finds excuses to cover up these masacres.

Think, I dont know where you get this high and mighty tone and attitude from like you are better than everyone and therefore able to pass judgement on everybody. You embarrass yourself constantly, your poor knowledge on Falklands history and the current relationship between the Falklands and Britain constantly embarrasses you. You purposely fail to understand or listen to anyones responses to you, and if they test your “squatter” and “colonialist” theories you turn to insults (your favourites are turnip and squatter).

Please visit the Falklands. I would love to meet you and have these discussions in person. You are after all a keyboard warrior. I bet you have your very own manifesto lying some where.

You are the only person embarrassing yourself Think. But I am sure you will call me a turnip, a colonialist, a squatter, pirate etc etc etc. You will have the same old flawed arguements and that condescending tone. You are just a very frustrated young man who is struggling to get by, so you vent your frustrations via keyboard to others who you believe are “inferior” to your “intellectual prowess”.

Honestly, come to the Falklands and have these conversations in person. This isnt a threat either, so dont play the victim card where all Falklanders want to kill your countrymen. Unlike your countrymen wanting to kill us, like I have read on many, many occassions.

I look forward to your condescending reply.

Some British are shocked about the actions of this Norwegian, and they should be. Some even worry about that this animal can go free in 21 years or so, I don't think he will ever be out of jail.
However another convicted and sentenced serial killer of 270 people was released by the British Government in order to gain oil deals in his country of origin, anyone was in shocked then?
This serial killer was released because he had 90 days to live, many months later he is still alive and appeared today in Libyan national TV.
The Norwegian serial killer of seventy six humans beings is in jail in Norway, the other serial killer of two hundred and seventy human beings is free.

No, is not worth it and life is too short for me to do that and let me give an example. A month ago I had a BBQ in New York with some ex argentine officers and an ex SAS officer working at the UN. The obvious subject was Malvinas. After 3 hours going at it , we never lost respect of each other and the conversation was conducted in a very professional way, respecting each others point of view.

A former English Defence League activist has admitted he may have inspired Norway massacre suspect Anders Behring Breivik.
Paul Ray said his anti-Muslim blog entitled Richard The Lionhearted could have helped inform Breivik's 1,500 page manifesto in which he justifies the atrocities…..
……Mr Ray's comments came after Norway's domestic intelligence chief said there was no evidence of links between Breivik, 32, and the English far-right.”
