The Brazilian Executive is “playing with fire” in the way it addresses relations with other partners of the ruling coalition warned the Party of the Republic (PR) which is threatening to join the opposition conditioning the government’s majority in Congress. Read full article

    The allies ARE the government.
    The coalition involves JOINT responsibility.

    The problem is that
    (i) It is a very centralized presidential system, and
    (ii) the President must come from one party within the coalition,
    which juxtaposes with
    (iii) ministeries and the ministerial jobs have come to be seen as ‘owned’ by particular parties within the coalition.

    Wrt (iii), this must stop. Parties do not own ministries. A corrupt minister sacked by the President must not be replaced by or from within the party so disgraced; the disgraced party should be serially depleted with every corruption-sacking.

    “President Rousseff anticipated she would continue with the ‘depurations’ in government bureaucracy” (depurations: To cleanse or purify or become cleansed or purified).

    Support Dilma to do this and go yet further.
