Prime Minister David Cameron said his government would mend Britain's broken society to prevent a repeat of the country's worst riots in decades. Read full article
The pendulum swings. 250 years ago, people were hanged for stealing a loaf of bread(because they were hungry), now criminals get tv sets & hot meals etc. Are we starting to swing back towards extreme punishment again?
What a bunch of low life teen brits who create social unrest
and carnage in London streets, then again England has a large
social class divide in which the wealthy are the only ones entitled
to an higher education while the poor are simply unable to gain an education which generates inequality the recent events in Britain highlight deep social and economic problems that have been building up for years.
That is not entirely true @4. The poor get free higher education, the rich can afford it, the middle-classes are the losers in the system. They have to take out loans for higher education or rely on benevolent parents making sacrifices to pay for it. (I should add that the student loans do not have to be repaid until earnings reach a certain level).
There is still social inequality but in the UK there is social mobility. You can be born penniless and become a Lord in the UK. This is simply not possible in SOME SoAm countries where social mobility is almost impossible.
The UK is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but I am not at all happy about the attitude Cameron is taking towards solving the social issues he thinks are behind the recent riots. JMO
