There's a rather bored looking tea lady in my office. You should make a written complaint about this terrible situation to her too. It would really brighten her day.

But your tea lady can do nothing Idlehands. On the other hand the World Philatelic Society might. Perhaps they should take their complain there too?

You have a tea lady in your office Idle? You're very lucky, all I've got is a vending machine that dispenses “alledgedly”. As in “alledgedly” tea or “alledgedly” coffee.

I believe that the UK should actually send a representitive to one meeting, and offer to immediately cancel all none of the drilling permits that it has issued.

Or we can wait for whatever crackpottedness the C24 comes up with to be squashed by the 4th committee, same as usual.

Rufus, the UK did not issue the drilling permits, so can't cancel something it did not issue...

You know my Grandfather told me that since oil was discovered in the world the Argentines would try to reclaim our Islands on that issue alone. Seems History is about to repeat that old mans words. It is as plain as day that the Argentines are getting more agitated every day as our deep see explorations start yeilding the fruits our forefathers predicted we would have. Argentina does not want our Islands because they believe they belong to them because Historically they no they don't. (1592 was a long time before Argentina even existed) No they only want what they knew was here over a hundred years ago. Sorry to spoil your dreams Che but we are here and now and real time drilling. Shipping is still happening inspite of the Argie Embargo so get used to it. When yous lot run out of Oil we may subject to political correctness sell you some of our new found oil . We are not barbarians so would look after your people which is a hell of a lot more respect than you are showing to us.

They are taking their complaint to the C24 because it's packed with their buddies. Notice that the current C24 president is from Ecuador. Also notice that the Falklands Islands government has issued several invitations to C24 to visit the Islands. Too scared that bully boy Argentina will find a way to hit their own countries. She and Timmerman know its NOT the jurisdiction of the C24 - or even then Assembly or the Security Council - but the mass public will not know that and vote for her as their heroine.
Geo- actually Britain has a first class record on oil safety and is a top rate world leader i it - is Argentina!

Hence DES do not have all the data! You could have found that out for yourself if you had the intellectual capacity!

Marcos, do please get all your facts in a line. BP is a multinational company not purely british. And the disaster you refer to was in US waters and with US partners and it was a US subsidiary whose components failed to work.
Falklands Govt Oil dept is a bit more on the ball than the US was in the gulf of Mexico, and has measures in place to ensure that emergency batteries to shut blowoff valves are kept charged up.

Wht exactly are you trying to prove Geo, The oil slick in the Timor sea was nothing to do with us brits - Australia is an independent nation. Also the oil rig was - “The West Atlas oil rig in the Timor Sea, operated by the Thai-owned PTTEP Australasia,” So it was a thailand company responsible for the slick not us brits or the australians, and last time i check Thailand is an independent sovereign country.

Here one that Argentina were responsible for:

They maywell use British develop drilling technology but that does not make us brits responsable for their failings to drill to certains levels of stadards or their lack of safety precautions they employ, does it? No!!

Fact is they are not a British company, yet you tried to use the incident to prove british oil companyies have a poor safety record when the truth is we have one of the best safety records in the oil industry.

As for Australia, err yes they elect a new prime minister every 3-4 years on average, their choosing to keep the queen as the head of state is nothing but a symbolic one, and does not change the fact that Australia is an independent country with its own constitution - The final constitutional ties between Australia and the UK were severed with the passing of the Australia Act 1986, ending any British role in the government of the Australian States.

In fact, Australia has had closer ties with the USA than with the UK since the end of WWII.

As for the relationship between Australia and Britain, it will always be strong, as well as sharing the same head of state, we are a commonwealth nation and share a number of defence and intelligence agreements with the UK, NZ, USA and Canada - all intelligence is shared. Our SAS operate with the UK SAS and NZ SAS and our military have a number of personal on attachment with UK forces, or at UK defence establishments.

I don't think anyone cares about the point your trying but failing to make on UK oil industry safety - Fact is we have a much larger oil industry than Argentina, Blow outs happen no matter how safe you are, ships sink, submersibles sink end of day accidents do and will happen, no matter how high your standards of safety are. But hey the oils in the falklands not in argentina so whats it got do to with you argies? Sod all, cos theirs nothing you can do about it.

And with regards to Australia, well what business of argentina is it if they choose to keep the queen as the head of state, they like the falklanders are decendents of british ancestors and we have a unique bond with them just like we do the islanders, and as JayD said (#46) they would be more then happy to help us kick some argenine arses, and we would be the first to jump to australias side too.

The only ones who killed those 11 men on that rig were Americans who were working on that rig and did not comply with the safety laws.

Oh and by the way prick BP does no longer stand for British Petroleum it is now Beyond Petroleum and has been for the last ten years. Well to be honest i could not careless whether its an attempt to either take the mickey out of my username or simply to change the subject, as for the reference to the weather, well all i can say is that the weather here in the UK is very warm, Sunny and Dry where i live, in fact as its only just early spring in Argentina, i dare say its better here then it is there, ohh guess what.. According to the latest whether reports the highest tempeture expected in Argentina today is 50 degrees Fahrenheit and clear but mainly CHILLY - Where here where i live in the UK the temperature is expected to which 71.6 degress Fahrenheit with sun and partly cloudy throughout the day.

I geuss that makes us Brits hotter property then you cold and chilly argentines. Would you like some oil for your heaters, i hear the falklands have plenty and would be more then happy to sell you some, though watch out for the inflation rate of 25% as that will send the cost of oil for your heating sky high and unaffordable to most argentines, though you could always chop down the few trees, but oh thats just to much hard work for you lazy moaning argentinians after all with no oil you will be back to using your axes again lol.

Right and Argentina is a prime example to the world of a country that has never killed anyone, is it? Err No, not by a long shot.

And unlike you, at least we do not go into evict people from their homes with all guns blazing like you guys do - http://en.mercopress.com/2011/07/29/one-officer-and-3-civilians-killed-during-eviction-of-a-landsite-in-north-argentina

Nor do we go around raping and killing french tourist, like you argentines do.

Nor do we have an inflation rate of 25% or a government that likes to hide the true figure to safe themselves of public embaressment.

Nor do we have a Government that tries to deflect form issue within the country by using a lies and false historical facts to wrongly claim land that has never belonged to them, simply to improve opinion polls and get more votes.

With your record, one must wonder what, if any hope, is left for you argentinians and your country. Next step for you is a one way ticket to Zimbabwe as when the shit hits the fan in argentina, even Zimbabwe would be a cheaper place for you to live.

Really so what lands have we invaded in mondern times and subjugated the controle and people, i.e. Bring under domination or control, esp. by conquest or Make someone or something subordinate to - that has not been hadn't back to its own independent government? Err none as all our recent modern wars have been in defense of human rights, in defence of that nations peoples desire for freedom, to remove tyrants and tyrannical regimes and in each case have handed power back to the people of that country.

Only country wishing to Subjugate another here is Argentina and its desire to gain control over the soveriegnty of the Falklands islands, that you had once tried to take by force, and still wish to take regardless of the islanders rights to self determination, whilst at the same time saying you respect humand rights and rights of people and nations under the UN Charter. And its all because you want the oil, which we have all known was suspected of being their since what the 60's-70's

Do yourselve a favour Malen take a long hard look at your own country and its history before critising other peoples countries for the same things your very own country is guilty off. Hypocrite.

inadequate education for England's poor and the pommy bums who go around causing problems in their own country and most of the comments here that are highly rude and envious of Argentinas progress comes from some spiteful english and falkland villagers users.

    @tigre #65 - “spiteful...Envious??”

I can tell you now am not spiteful or envious in any of my comments. What i won't have is argentine hypocrites saying things about my country that are not true while trying to make their country smell like roses to everyone. When the truth is they have been doing the exact samething they accusing us off and our troops and the islanders suffered as a result of one such attempt to subjugate the islands in 1982. I will not also stand by and let people liabel us brits or british companies on a misguided believe that it make us look like the biggest polluters of the word through accidents due to lack of safety and standards, when the truth is we as a nation have one of, if not the strictest, safety laws and level of standards in the world.

As for the rioters, do some reading, its not just the poor, it was more a case of idiots using the peaceful protest of the killing of a suspected gang member, to cause violence, damage, loot and steal, and was in fact organised between rival gangs just so they could loot and steal hell, most where just kids.

And i suggest you read the links posted in #68, as it would appear the number of riots in argentina would suggest they have even worse social problems then Britain does. oh but then argentinians are well know round the world for throwing a argy bargy aren't they. Seems they are also good at telling other countries they are going downhill, when we are far from it, but not very good and realising their own country is going down the toilet, if they do not get a grip of their inflation which is likely to spiral within the next 18 months. So lets see where Argentina is in 18 - 24 months from now shall we, and don't say i didn't warn you.

The pinnacle of Spanish culture was under Moorish rule.

Moors came from Africa, thus Spanish culture is the spread of African culture. . . . or so goes the argument.

Spanish conquored South America; Moorish culture and bloodlines erradicated South American cultures and mixed the bloodlines with the Moorish . . . . .or so goes the argument.

The subsequent great mixing of European genes swamped out the South American genes, and 97% of Argentina is non-indigenous but legally new-Argentinian . . . . or so goes the argument.

So, Malen, you yourself have the African in you.

Actually, that 56% figure comes from a genetic study of 320 individuals

@Malen, what is it that you do not understand here, your denying you have african origins just becuase your from argentina. Sorry but it does not work like that.

The majority of the population of native argentinian and other south american tribes and civilisations were wiped out by the spanish. Yes those that lived did end up breeding with your spanish ancestors, but that means as your spanish ancesters own ancesters were from africa that you yourselve have african ancesters as you share the same ancestry and your spanish great great grand mother/father has. So unless you are one of the few remaining members of the native gene pool which i doubt you are since most live in poor areas where they probably do not have the internet or even computers, then yes you have spanish and african ancestral genes in your DNA.

Oh and by the way the even the natives are of african origins after all modern man originates from africa, so ever man and woman regardless of race or skin colour has ancesters that originated from africa, and back then as their were so few humans, your talking tens to just a few hundred thousand, then the its perfectly possible for you and me tol have originated from the same African man/woman from 125,000 and 60,000 years ago

Heres some info as evidence of where you came from malen - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recent_single-origin_hypothesis

On the left of that wiki page is also a world map showing the course of migration about half way down, ohh look they even made it to argentina 125,000 years ago, so even the natives are of african origins.

Reading the complete comments to date it appears as usual the Argentine comments always seem to eventually get everyone away from the actual article subject. I wonder if the reason is that they are really trying to state their ongoing claim to our country or more likely they are so lonely with few people to communicate with they prefer to talk with us through these blogs. Either way what they do write about is stale old rubbish. Why then can't we all comment on facts as they are . This subject was about the oil activities which will continue regardless of any comment anyone makes here so trying to point score is a total waste of time. Get Real Argentina we are a Country just like you are and we intend to do in our Country as we wish just as I hope you also do in yours not dictated to by people who are bullies

Afrika is the similar imperialist repetitive situation of Malvinas. The invasion of a country in problems, usurpation of others lands, colonization and stealing of others resources in 21st century in name of pacification or any other excuse you want to make us believe.
Great powers countries peoples are stupidized so as to allow their governants destroy, steal and comit the atrocities they like in name of a democracy and freedom they themselves dont have.

    @115

What a load of crap your sprout malen, name one country in africa that is a colony? I doubt you will find a single one. Name one country in africa whos natural resouces are being stolen by other countries? you will find none as it is multinational companies that, in agreements with the countries governments are mining or drilling for resources where the country itself benefits from.

As for “Great powers countries peoples are stupidized so as to allow their governants destroy, steal and comit the atrocities they like in name of a democracy and freedom they themselves dont have.”

Sounds very much similar to what argentina are trying to do right now, all while sprouting peace. Ohh i geuss that makes you the one whos been stupidized, but then as you clearly could not comprehend how you could have african ancesters, then am not surprised.

If you dont read the others side people opinnion of Libya or of Afghanistan or of Irak or of whatever alternative real independant news agency its up to you. I read both and take my own conclussions I have already expressed.
    72, 82, 103, 110 etc. etc.

Clearly you have not read bth sides, if you had you would know we acted on libya to protect the libyan civilians from being slaugthered by gadaffi and that in afganistan, we went their to protect the world from al qaeda, the effect of which has led to less terrorist attacks and serverly reduced their ability to pose a threat. Yes the main enemy there now is the former regime, but you goto afganistan and ask the population what life they prefered i.e. life under taliban rule or life under democratic rule, and you will find that everyone responds with life under democratic rule and are greatly appreciative of the western forces for disposing of the taliban and the civilians in a iraq will tell you the same in regards to us disposing of saddam hussian and bringing them democracy, infact it is probably seeing democarcy in process in iraq that resulted in civilians in other nations in the middleeast rising up to dispose their dictators. I think the fact they are rising up goes to show what we did was right and the people themselves what freedom and democracy.

You though seem to think it is all about oil, well theres no oil in afganistan is there. but unlike iraq and libya, you do not mention afganistan as much. You think it is us trying to subjugate people wherever we are fighting, when we are not. Whatever happens when all wars are finished it is evidently clear those nations will be free and independent and stable, and as such the world itself will be a lot safer. Would you still have the same view of nations that sponser al qaeda and similar terrorist organisations, if they bombed your country, no you wouldn't you would be damanding justice no matter what the cost, like you have done in the past when Iran for example. Only reason you can not goto war is you do not have the military means to do so, if you had then am sure you would have declared war on Iran.

Strange is it not how the Argentines continue to challange not only the existance or rights of Falkland Islanders but that they also accuse others of acts in many other countries YET never do they admit to the terriblr way in which they colonised the land they now call Argentina. Countless thousands of people over the years have died at the hands of ruthless Argentine dictators and in all honesty does not look like it is about to stop any time soon. Yet these same people have the nerve to say that WE the Falkland Island people were implanted by Britain when the fact is our ancestors the pioneers of this great little Country came not just from Britain but from many parts of the world, so how can any Argentine claim that we are an implanted species wheras the opposite can be said for those Argentine people who most deffinatly were implanted from Spain the rest who live there did exactly as our ancestors did they saw an oppertunity to adventure yet the Argentines make no mention of this fact because it is a hard pill to swallow to acept that many of their fellow contry men and women settled there from that unregonised place called the BRITISH EMPIRE . Millions of these decendants live in Argentina yet not once have I read any Argentina challange that these people were implanted so why do they believe that we are.
It makes me so proud to be British living in MY Country with the rights afforded to me. Pity the vast Majority of Argentines vant claim the same.

If we were implanted we would still be an old colony of Spain giving reverence to their king. And thanks God we mixed so much we could build our own identity different to spaniards and fight for our own rights and aspirations.

Always predictable that Argentinians would take the side of their forefathers - the black African mercenaries, killing and oppressing the freedom loving people of Lybia and North Africa.
