Argentina and Chile are jointly promoting their countries in a round of events in Australia with the purpose of drawing more Aussie tourists. The promotion coincides with the recent announcement of Australia’s flag carrier Qantas direct flights to Santiago de Chile. Read full article

Yes, a commercial decision because the QF flights to BA are running near empty while the LA/QF flights into Santiago are that heavily booked that people have to sit outside on the roof....

Santiago Airport does require urgent extension first, it's already the airport with the highest amount of visitors in the whole south cone, but the toll and passport entrance is really a bottleneck.
