Looking at putting weapons in space going by the comments he made. on forces and ”we will have much more to defend and control from space”. I doubt the US will be happy at the way this was annouced or their intentions, as it seems their intentions are military to me.

all she will achieve is moving the conflicted from the Falklands, up into space,, we have not even got into space yet, as a race,
except for a few sat alights a few rockets and the odd landing on the moon, and this crackpot wants to conquer space,
    ..................................
I hope no unfriendly aliens , were watching him, they may well have something to say about these barbarians running around space, claiming its all theirs,
[ does this mean star trek is getting closer, USS Argentina,, , PERHAPS LOLOLOLOL..NOT

Did you all not know that the Moon was once part of Argentina? They have all the evidence to show that it originated in the Argentine Sea.......... Sorry, South Atlantic Ocean. Or was it the Pacific. Get's very confusing! Anyway, space definitely belongs to Argentina because if you stand in Argentina and look up, you can see it. All clear now?

But I have to admit that I am looking forward to seeing Argentina get into space. That's all of Argentina in space. Then we could send them off on a manned mission to circumnavigate the universe. But no warp drive! They all need to face the same way and blow. Should be easy for them.

@2 no one really cares what the US thinks anymore. The world has gotten tired of their double standards and patronising ways. The power is slowly but surely shifting in some measure to the South now. Besides, they've got enough problems of their own to be minding other country's business.

It's good to know that the area is each time more integrated. As far I can see by that agency Brazil will help defending Argentina and vice versa.

@13 - So your saying that you can go do what you like in space and put whatever weapons you like up their and no one cares what other countries say, think or do about it? I think you will be in for a big shock if that is the case, as no country on earth will allow argentina or brazil to put weapons in space, especially if they intend to put weapons of mass destruction or nuclear warheads up there. Basically only conventional weapons can be put upt their anything else would be a breach of the Outer Space Treaty to which argentina is a signitory.

If you think other nations like the USA, China, Russia or the UK will allow you to put weapons up their that could threaten world peace or threaten then you will get a very big shock. You could potentially kickstart a whole new arms race to counter any such plans to put weapons in space, whether conventional, WMD or Nuclear.

But then you have the Space Preservation Treaty which when in force will ban all forms of weapons from space.

As for double standards, well one only needs to look at argentina to such double standards. And no, power is not shifting to the south americas at all, you just like to think it is. Hell the south american nations economies put together still does not come near to the size of the USA economy.

Whats also interesting is the EU according to the IMF had the biggest economy in the world in 2010 by GDP (PPP). And its the size of your economy that gives a nation its strength and power - Something argentina lacks both off.

you divulge your misunderstanding & weaponary phobia !

who says they develop the space military program ,
just talk about simple technological collaborations....

Russia &USA haven't even realized their space armaments programs
as well...Europe & China + some others already don't have any
    capacity to realize it !!

@15. Argentina is a peaceful nation. we don't do weapons of mass destruction. the only one who threatens world peace is the US. look no further at the slaughter in Iraq.

Its dificult for the old world to accept that they are being replaced especially the old colonial powers.I suspect that some wanting to see Argentina in space see some semblance of hope that they might win a match or even two at the World cup.

@18 and 19 - Perhaps you two did not read the part where i said “But then you have the Space Preservation Treaty which when in force will ban all forms of weapons from space.”

Perhaps you also did not read the parts in the article where your defense (military) minister stated words such as “forces” or statements as ”but rather for our defence, we will have much more to defend and control from space” - Now to me that is a statement of intent, and in order to defend from space you need weapons in space. So no geo there is no misunderstanding on my part.

And Troneos look at all the people killed, tortured and multilated by saddam, i urge you to go their and ask the iraqi people if they prefer life under saddam or life as they have now with all the freedoms they have that they could only dream of before. Look at how others have seen the life the iraq people have and have now rebelled seeking the same freedoms. So please stop posting crap about iraqi just because you think it makes your argument stronger when it does not.

Can't see why it is the DEFENSE Ministers promoting this.

    Do they anticipate building ICBMs?

This is surely the province of the technology & communications ministries, where space orbital artifacts can be used to support the future societal development of the-man-on-the-ground.

Alternatively and much cheaper, SA can just buy space on the space-vehicles of US/Russia/EU/China/Japan.
