Brazil's government presented a plan on Wednesday for dividing up oil royalties among states, a crucial step in advancing its effort to tap deepwater reserves it hopes will turn the country into a major crude exporter. Read full article
Gift from God it might be, but it represents taxation potential beyond the wildest dreams.
Taxes all the way down the line - through from planning for extraction to the very petrol pump itself - followed by ''Windfall Taxes” each time a new Gift From God appears in the logs.
The states housing the oil ports and services will need vastly more of the revenue in order to build *and maintain* the support infrastructures.
It comes as no surprise to me that the Brasilian States - like Bahia which is frantically trying to divide into three separate states - want to maximise the cash coming to them; and they will and are using every subterfuge in the book to get the biggest slices of a very large cake.
Many, many Brasilians will - by hook or by crook - become millionaires.

No idea where you come up with your wild theories about the oil revenues, hook or by crook. And it's not the state of Bahia that is trying to seperate in three different States, but state of Maranhao (yes I did my homework what you aren't capable of doing as usual)
is that going to happen? Let the people vote in that state (what's normal in a Republic) was the answer of the supreme court and polls shows majority says NO and Brasilia can also stop it even if it's a yes if it becomes to expensive to have more senetors, changing the flag etc etc. Hint: Dilma is against it because it cost money.
Glad you're keeping up to speed on proposals within the country and State that I live in.
Pará division follows Goiás/Tocatins and DF, and will not be the last.
You have probably not been reading the Bahian media, so you will not be up to speed with the local proposals.
I hope Dilma will control further dissociation -
- the rationale, many agree, is to massively increase the number of individuals on the Government/Administration payroll at all levels,
and, of course, the salaries (Brasilian politicians have the highest political salaries in the world)
and the hugely expensive 100% pensions for life (which are payable even if the incumbent is in post for just a single day).
A politician can take the pension early and can then carry on being a politician, multiplying his income.
And a politician can place his spouse, sons & daughters , in-laws in post through nepotism, massively multiplying income.
The reality of this 'corrupting' (the 'legal'' appropriation of the money provided by the people - legal because they, the politicians, voted for it themselves and placed it on the statutes) beggars belief.

It will certainly beggar the country.
