We have come a long way since the days of the creation of the movie “The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” but the story still rings true today.

At a special performance in New York for members of the foreign press, the musical “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” produced by Bette Midler, tells the story of three “drag” queens who happen to be best friends, as they embarked on a road trip to the middle of nowhere in the Australian outback, in search of love, friendship ......... and themselves.

This over-the-top show, stars three solid actors: Will Swenson, ( Tick-Mitzi), Tony Sheldon, (Bernadette), and Nick Adams, (Felicia).

Twenty-one production numbers are supported by a cast of dancers and singers including Nathan Lee Graham, (Miss Understanding), in his rendition and impersonation of Tina Turner singing, “What’s Love Got to Do With it.”

Priscilla is the old, beaten-up bus in which they make the journey.

The bus becomes the center-piece of the set, changing colours on the outside while showing us a dream-like interior, all thanks to state-of-the-art computers that makes everything electronic and mechanical look effortless - even when Priscilla moves about the stage!

It is one of those shows where all your senses are permanently uplifted by some of the best music hits that you could remember dancing to, whilst surrounding you with colour, glamour and glitter, and delivered in fun, but outrageous costumes, designed by Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner, (winners of the 2011 Tony award for Best Costumes Design).

Remember “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”? Well, when I looked at the audience, I saw something you do not see very often these days, PEOPLE HAVING FUN!
