    Good news.............

Let's put those 7 billion to better use.

If it must be military, then let us together (UNASUR) develop a modern and appropiate defensive Swarm Technology based on hyper and supersonic drones and missiles.

That would be the only effective deterrent against the real agressors and pirates of the 21'th century.

We could get a hell of a lot “bees” and “wasps” for that money.

They are still going for it Think, they just want it cheaper and at the right time. Boeing is leading and is willing to do business with Brazil and give what Brazil wants. You don't think they want to lead in the so called UNASUR? Of course they want that.

    @6 Fido

It's an interesting one, quantitvely I'd go for Brazil (1 Aircraft Carrier, 9 Frigates & 5 Submarines) over Chile (8 Frigates, 4 Submarines), but qualitavly I'd say Chile at the moment.

If you look at the Brazilian fleet, the carrier is a Clemenceau class (the Clemenceau was riddled with so much toxic waste and asbestos that ordinary shipbreakers wouldn't touch it. I don't think the other ship in the class was built substantially differently.
The frigates are six Type 21 frigates and three Type 22 batch 1 frigates.
The Submarines are all Type 209s, which while fairly good aren't exactly in the first flush of youth.

    Compare with the Chilean Navy:
Their frigates are a mixture of Type 23 frigates (3), four ex-Royal Netherlands Navy frigates (which are under 20 years old) and one Type 22 batch 2 ship.
The submarines are also a mix, two are 209s, but the other two are new (i.e. launched less than ten years ago) Scorpiene class boats.

Of course, the Brazilians are looking (in the indeterminate future) looking at modernising their fleet (Scorpienes, and potentially either type 26 or FREMM Frigates) in the next decade or two.

It would really depend on experience would it not,
Just because you have more ships / subs /planes /men
Does not mean that you will win,
I believe experience and a lot of luck and planning may help

Very true- while more is good, more modern (in terms of hardware) and more experienced (in terms of manpower) are both better.

Surprise does pretty much trump everything though, if you can sink or cripple your opponent's ships before they can fire at you then it doesn't matter how much more advanced their ships were...

    Chuckle Chuckle™

This article has certainly become the home of Advanced Military Strategists....
    I'm humbled by their insight!
I wouldn´t have a chance against them on a round of Counter-Strike or WOW

    :-)))

    10 Think
    Very childish,
An answer to a question is just that,
But then again if you have a better answer to the question,
    Then lets hear it,
If not go dig some turnips up,
They might show you a thing or to,
