United States Secret Service agents told HMS Edinburgh, which is currently patrolling the Falkland Islands, to stop pointing its missiles at Michelle Obama’s hotel room while sailors were holding a ceremony to mark the death of a colleague. Read full article

Ships rust. Duno why that excites you so much.
Oct 15th, 2011 - 03:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Marcos- actually this shows up how incredibly THICK DUMB and STUPID the US Secret service and YOU are! What ship would have live missiles sitting on it launchers when entering port of a friendly nation on a formal courtesy visit? Live missiles are only on the launchers when they are likley to need to fire- ie in a war scenario- or in live fire training.
Oct 15th, 2011 - 04:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Even the most lowest educated idiot could have seen by training his binoculars on the ship that they were dud solid drill rounds - they are a differnt colour for a start!
Tim
No big deal, but Royal Navy ships as a matter of politeness should have guns and similar trained inboard.
Oct 15th, 2011 - 05:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Apologies to the US for burping at the table.
The USSS is paranoid. This is their main function and an operational necessity.
Oct 15th, 2011 - 05:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The sea dart has a notional altitude minimum of 30m I think, and has proven to be effective at considerably lower altitude (it's engaged targets at an altitude of 10m in the past). The odds are that the hotel is tall enough to be engageable by the missiles if something goes pear shaped and the launch system goes fubar and drops one (a la USS William D Porter).
The posssibility exists, but is vanishingly small with a live missile. So the USSS would ask (out of courtesy) and be told that they were drill missiles (without anything important like a guidance system, an engine or a warhead).
The Americans have always been the bull in the china shop.
Oct 15th, 2011 - 05:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0But to be fair to the anti British president
after his remarks abet the British,
Would you trust the royal navy [even to think]
But as gentlemen we wouldn’t dream of such an act,
Or would we, chuckle chuckle

Marcos thinks he can see evil everywhere. See & say exactly what you like, Marcos, but you still won't get the Falklands. Please get over it.

What are the chances , that either way, its weapons will be facing at someone / or something,,
Unless the ship is pointing out to sea,
Something the Americans should think about next time their ships are facing ??
Just in case .
What numbnuts forgets is that Argentina has 2 x Type 42 both older than Edinburgh. Both were launched a decade before Edinburgh.

Oct 16th, 2011 - 09:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Surely that should be had 2 x Type 42s. ARA Hercules has been converted to an armed transport ship and ARA Santisima Trinidad (incidentally, the only Type 42 not built in the UK) was plagued by mechanical problems, hasn't been at sea for more than twenty years and has probably been stripped for spare parts.
Marcos Alejandro is an Internet Warrior obsessed and brain washed anbout the Falklands. You really really should look at your own country before you insult another country.
Oct 17th, 2011 - 04:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0Probable why they are all so envious and jealous of the British,.
