The main reason he was handed back was the status of PoW. I can't remember the exact details but the Geneva Convention precluded handing the bastard to France.

I remember reading that they transfered him to the UK by ship to buy time and decide what they was going to do and if he was infact a POW because of things he did while being a prisoner that breached the Geneva convention like trying to lure troops through minefields and trying to make a RN helicopter land on a mined helipad.

Many Argentines, who unfortunately is not expressed this forum, think about the human rights of the islanders, because we have also suffered with 30,000 missing and concentration camps of the last dictatorship ...
It seems incredible, but the United States and England, worked with Galtieri before 1982, in the implementation of state terrorism, in the context of national security doctrine and the “Operation Condor” with equipment, technology and specially trained personnel torture and disappearances on his experience in fighting the Irish Republican Army. This is explained as Margaret Thatcher protected Augusto Pinochet, dictator of Chile, when he was arrested in London, accused of implanting along with Britain and the United States national security doctrine justifying state terrorism.
Just look on the website of Amnesty International, Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Perez Esquivel, Nobel Peace Prize and other international human rights organizations, both United States and Britain also collaborated in the implementation of state terrorism in the Argentina and Latin America.
Yet this does not invalidate the legitimate demands of the people of Argentina over the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands. As the saying goes: No one is free to cast the first stone.

    Raul
    Again you are very confusing,
Why USA And England,, then USA And Britain, are they all different countries,??, can you prove the English government collaborated with galtieri, and thus was also responsible for [Operation condor]
So if the English And the Americans were responsible for CONDOR why is Argentina celebrating it, also you mention Malvinas, is this country the same as the English countries, perhaps the governments of these two countries are hiding with Atlantis,
Or perhaps you would like to re-write your fantasy story, and take out
English and malvinas governments as neither exist, and perhaps the real truth about condor,
Or better still, do another job.
    Just a thought.

When you're dealing with a shit hole, you deal with the biggest shits, where's the surprise in that?

Just because Argentina has a semblance of democracy these days doesn't mean the US or UK were wrong in insulating themselves from shits and shit holes, you have to deal with these bastards because there's no alternative.

What do you suggest we did back then? Invade South America and introduce democracy? Thats gone so well in Iraq hasn't it? No, you just take the path of least resistance, and ensure that the shits remain within their own borders and continue to abuse their own populations until they've had enough and say no.

We can't go around holding your sodding hands while you grope towards the future, you have to work it out for yourselves. If that means pain, discomfort, and death within South America, then that is the price YOU pay for your democracy, its fcuk all to do with us unless you invade one of our territories based on a fairy story, then we'll fcuk you lot over and teach you the reality.

Thats what happened in 1982, and thats what will happen again if you lot don't grow up and think it a good idea to try the same shit again.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_War

“This generalization of state terror tactics has been explained in part by the information received by the Argentine militaries in the infamous School of Americas and also by French instructors from the secret services, who taught them ”counter-insurgency” tactics first experimented during the Algerian War (1954–62).[44][89]”

The tactics of throwing State Enemies out of aircraft came from the French/Algerians

War criminals, genocidal maniacs, murders, fascists and cowards constituted the Argentine officer corps from the top, down.

Most of these people escaped justice. The Kirchner dynasty have done nothing but pay lip service to the demands of the victims families.

A few got prison sentences of a few months, to a few years most of them cut on demands from the Army by 80-90% of their sentences.

Argentine war criminals from the Falklands War have so far escaped justice but there are growing demands for them to be brought to the UK to face trial for their actions. The memory of the Falklands War and the crimes committed there can not rest until this takes place. Argentina must be made to realise that invading other states and committing war crimes are as bad if not worse than ethically cleansing their own population of their politically active youth.

Argentina is today a fascist country, it has been this way since the 1930's. There is only one way to reform Argentina and protect the Southern Cone from Argentine expansion. Bring it to book through international pressure. Give the criminals, including the current administration life long prison terms. Set the example that the international community will not stand for criminal regimes, even if the Argentine population are happy waving flags, while their children are being murdered by the same regime they celebrate!

Raul, who is so full of horse manure, not even a joke!

Pitiful and pathetic thing, and not even a joke! You have to respect people who have another point of view and truth.
I can write here my point of view and your family with you. Vehemently, yes vehement and front. I find it very interesting to hear that probably will not write the story that their voices are heard and that they are weaker.
I have a policy not to pay the offenses with the same currency or respond in a reactionary. Thinking differently is the most normal thing in democracy and freedom.
I read your link, not bad enough to begin studying the issue, but you have to study by other authors and organizations. Wikipedia is not bad but is incomplete and sometimes it is manipulated and superficially.
What I say is true and not just me talking, but also other sources more respectable with authority on the subject as Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Nobel Prize for peace. Explore the topic in the following link and see that I lie not.

Anyway .....; I agree that Mr. Raul is saying “strange stories” and that his translation of Google is not improving their quality.

With the respect you deserve, I disagree with you. Unfortunately it is the sad reality that is becoming known as time passes, more understanding and accuracy, the true magnitude of the genocide carried out by the Argentine military inspired by the national security doctrine fostered by United States and England.

    17 Artillero601

There were a number of white flag incidents, in which Argentine soldiers surrendered and then shot and killed British troops trying to accept their surrender. There is the case of islanders locked into church buildings and other such places for long periods of time, against the Geneva convention and against the UN declaration on human rights and the rights of peoples in occupied states and the use of civilians as collateral in a military occupied zone. Then there is the case of the millions of mines sown across the islands, unmarked and not cleared by the power responsible for sowing them - as laid down in treaty.

On top of this there is the illegal invasion of the islands themselves. The Argentina junta escaped justice on this and their other crimes.

There is also the bombing and sinking of a US flaged merchant ship.

Illegal arrests of British nationals during the war and disappearances of British nationals prior to the war.

Like the international reaction to Gadaffi before the uprising the world has ignored the crimes of Argentina for decades in order to maintain good trade relations. France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain did not follow up the murders committed on their nationals during the Argentine /South American / CIA's Operation Condor.

But it is time all these people were brought to book and we will not rest until they are, whether they are dead or alive Argentina must atone for her crimes and the continuing intimidation of the Falkland Islanders. This must stop.

Taking people who base their claim on a spurious episode in the year 1833 seriously is a sad joke that must stop. People live there and they have done for almost 200 years. The intimidation that supports this claim needs to stop. The Argentine nationalists - like yourself who mostly live overseas - who jump up and down on here passing insults and negative comments need to understand the word RESPECT. If you can't manage it, there is something seriously wrong with!

Raul: You have to respect people who have another point of view and truth.

History is fact and not “another point of view”. The French Algerians trained the Argentine army in counter terrorism, not the British nor North Americans and that is fact, and fact is truth. I would suggest you disconnect your rectum from your brain, it is oxygen starved and trying to run on methane.

quote - “State terrorism and genocide perpetrated by the Argentine military and are inspired by Latin American national security doctrine promoted by the U.S. and England.” [Britain Raul, calling us English is incorrect]

No Britain had nothing to do with the policy. It was US policy, managed by their intelligence agencies, with the full co-operation of Latin American governments (apart from Nicaragua from 1981). The policy was geared towards achieving South American hegemony under the American sphere of influence, US corporations played a major role in it, buying up much of the continent - everything from water to blood supplies.

But all you Argentines are too busy reading lies about the Falklands to care what your government does to you and who gains!

At the end of the day,
The governments can only do what they have to do it with,
    The case of the Falklands,
Is British, and will remain British, as long as the islanders wish it.

The argentine government ,who , having tied their hands and feet, are now resigned to talking,
so their is no point in all the muck slinging, the Argies must understand you will not get , what is not your, and if this annoys you then the blame is solely down to your own government, who has said nothing more that she promised, and that is to talk,

The British have kept their promise and will defend; this is where we are all right now,
    British defending, and argentines talking,
if there is any envy or jealousness or even to admire us, that is argentines problem now.

The future is British, [isn’t that nice]

The Dirty War and the conflict of 82 are two different things, the first one was a victory of the Armed Forces against terrorism and the second an ACT OF STUPIDITY, all my colleagues agree with me on this issue.

And what you say is true, there were victims by ERP and MONTONEROS, who is recognizing that? so far nobody.

Everybody has to remember that , in the 70's TERRORISM tried to take over the Country, and a DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT called for action during DEMOCRACY ..... the rest is debatable.
