I read that his tumor was not very big and his chances of a full recovery are excellent. Get well soon Lula!

I hope Lula gets better soon. He was in Mexico a few days ago and it really makes me proud when Lula visits our country, and it is always a pleasure to hear this important Latin-American leader, certainly the best latin-american leader we have had in decades. And a world leader as well.

There is no 'remedy' as such, you just have to kill off all the aggressive cells and leave as much of the laryngial cells alive.
    It's not easy stuff,
and it could involve loss of ability to speak with or without an electronic 'voice-box. It may necessitate 'heroic' surgery if the therapies fail to stop the aggressive development of the disorder. Hopefully, there will be no metastases, especially into the lymphatic system.

Jack Hawkins CBE, one of my favorite wartime actors, and also a smoker, suffered similarly and spoke while he still lived with a mechanical voice-box - sounding less 'electronic' than Stephen Hawkin, but no less artificial.

My ex-father-in-law, who was a cheroot and pipe smoker, died of this disorder some 6 months after heroic surgery took away most of his throat, jaw and lower skull. He also left it too late to get things diagnosed and treated. A good (some would say great) man, and a main/key designer of the Arnheim glider, the Beverley Freighter, the Buccaneer and the Harrier.

You're praying for him to die. Admit it, Geoff.

Only in the sense that I wish him to avoid the 'life' that my father in law suffered. Nobody should have to go through the terrible suffering that he experienced. Hospice should help the pain if treatment fails.

Humanity doesn't come easy to you, does it, Forgetit?

I know how much you hate the man, that there isn't one single insult you won't resort to in order to abuse him - and that, if reality fails to avenge you, you'll have no problem in employing your imagination to create justifications to keep villifying him. Any demonstration of goodwill on your part sounds contrived. For the sake of taste, you should refrain from commenting on threads about his illness.

Obviously you know little about cancer within the family,

but why so bitter yesterday and today, Forgetit?
Surely not my challenge about corruption! If so, rise to the challenge.

Always the self-server. No, it wasn't any of your flights of imagination that has now definitely disposed me against you. It was your first message on this thread: http://en.mercopress.com/2011/10/31/brazil-becomes-sixth-world-economy-overtaking-uk-by-the-end-of-2011
