    It could be argued that, when population growth outpaces food availability, everything else is 'academic'.

    Oh, Fido, so little knowledge.

    Darwin was castigated as the antithesis of God
    - evolution and creationism being mutually incompatible.

    What we are talking about is Carrying Capacity and Limiting Factors. Things that became understood with the development of the science of ecology
