The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today described as “malicious” attempts by the government of Argentina to control press freedom through adoption of a law on the manufacture, sale and commercialization of newsprint, and said it trusted that the judiciary would annul a “law that is clearly unconstitutional because of its subjugation of principles concerning freedom of expression.” Read full article

attempts? this isn't an attempt, this is a reality, and has the support of at least 80% of Argentines, which shows how primitive the thought process in Argentina is. It is very easy to control the masses in Argentina, at least 80% of my country's population is imbecile, resentful and losers wishing and believing that things will get better just because they believe it. Their minds are easy to be used and abused, and since you know that a resentful person is a weak person, you can manipulate his/her mind as you wish. You can use their primal instincts, their feelings, their losses, their wishes, their dreams, their desires, Jesus, God and Malvinas of course. These masses are a group but with a single mind, almost mentally impaired. They all act the same, they are not individuals anymore, they're sheep, so perverts like CFK and her husband can do with those people what they want. Hey, but this type of scum is everywhere in this world, unfortunately.

argie here. I really want to say that I feel, as an argentine , really ashamed. I love my country and my people and I feel proud to be argentine, like British, japanese or whatever nationality you are, could feel the same. I feel deeply ashamed for people like xbarilox. I write this in english and not in spanish because I know most people who read this newspaper do it in english. I believe there is nothig worst in my nation than people who can talk so bad to their fellow citizens and have no respect for anything. Many things could be fixed or improved but not bad human qualities. really sad.

@ 2 First of all, you don't love your country and your people, you just feel identified with my comment and offended, which is a good thing, it shows that you still have hopes. Second, what a load of nonesense, proud of being something that you didn't even decide to be, you just born in this country. Third, we are not fellow citizens, we just happenned to be Argentines, being a fellow citizen means that somehow I am like you, and I'm not, I am an individual, my individuality and my freedom is above all things created and invented, including crap like Nationalism, Patriotism, etc etc etc and I choose my personal liberty over your emotional slavery always. Fourth, We don't belong to the same nation, one of the good things in this country is that there are not only one nation but many nations.
Are you feeling any better now?
Here's a funny vid of French and Saunders so you can laugh a little hahaha

Nope. really sad indeed. You made many statements just to say only one thing. It's funny how you talk about individuality and freedom and tell me how I really feel, what I really wanted to say and how you are presumably better in many ways. It's great, I will assume then, arguin with you would be pointless since you are far beyond any human feelings, relation and sense of belonging I may say. Anyway, enjoy your self proclaimed liberty and freedom or whatever you want to believe you really have/are.

CFK is still taking instruction from Chavez by silencing the free press. Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of Democracy.

It's time for Chile Paraguay and Uruguay to form their own club, The Argentine as shown more than once that they want your lands to, And if the Argentine were ever so dumb as to try taking the Falklands by force of arms once more, the out come will be the same as 82, only this time it will not stop till there military is devastated, leaving the door open for you to expand you own lands, and as in any pack there is only room for one Alpha you will find Brazil will stand back and let you(if not help you also) now I would not like to see any one die not even a argi, so I say Argentina think long and hard what road you go down, for you may find that there is a Juggernaut bearing down on you,
and a Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New Year one and all.

@9 Kelper San: We already have a new club in SouthAmerica and it is called UNASUR. It has proved to be really useful to solve conflicts like the ones between Colombia and Venezuela and the attempts of coup d'etat in Colombia and Bolivia.

It is good that the Democratic Institutions are now regulating the access and NOT a little group a men at a monopoly.

The mass media groups that this IAPA represents are the ones practicing “malicious” attempts. These Argentinian corporations that DO NOT WANT TO LOOSE THE CONTROL over the information, not even a little, and that are gonna loose a lot of money with a more democratic and competitive market are the ones who published that Argentina was winning during the Malvinas War! This is just a little example of the lies and the damage they cause to Argentinians.

Argentina was once at the head of the modern media industry, having more newspapers than Germany for example on the beginning of the XX Century. The radio developed more or less at the same time than in the US. Television was also early developed.

In the 70s the Military Junta run over the diversity of the media industry and co-operated to form the monopoly we still have today.

The process we are living in Argentina is the DEMOCRATIZATION OF THE MEDIA, and the beginning of control over the chaos that these ambitious corporations cause. They keep the production of paper for themselves and do not let others to access. Even worse, they got to this situation with crimes, kidnapping owners of another companies in the 70s and torturing them to get the papers signed and “buy” them the companies.

Freedom of speech is kept safe and at the same time the access to INFORMATION is being considered a public good now.

So it is time to start thinking about not only freedom of expression (that is a true fact like never before in Argentina) but also about the possibility to express that small and local organizations have.

Merry Christmass for all Mercopress readers!

The truth is this isnt a a black and white issue. The Clarin group dominates the Argentine media to an even greater extent than Murdoch does in England.Papel Prensa has abused its position with regards to other newspapers including Ambito Financiero and provincial papers. The only ones with the power to take on Clarin is the government.
However the state with control is hardly the perfect solution

Let the blood run free, defenders of the Kirchnerist Democracy :)

@ 12 stop waving the flag of patriotism, nationalism, brotherhood, etc, I don't want to be your brother, your fellow citizen, your friend or anything, etc. When my parents came to Argentina they payed real good money for this land where we're living now, so no, you go to Trafalgar Square, even though it's a nice place, I'm not going anywhere from here, we own this land. One day you'll learn about the consequences of your actions thinking that you can force people to accept your desires as if freedom is just a fairytale. Time will tell the story of Argentina you and your partners have created.
I don't invest in Rockhopper, my parents did. Do we need your permission to invest ? :)

I wish you and your family the most horrifying and nightmarish Christmas possible, God bless you :)

What do you want to say about Argentina history; for sure we just kill maybe 10% of people UK was kill and still kill around the world.
What kind of civilization is that ? Same as Romans?
WE HAVE RIGTHS: we don´t want to force you to do nothing, do what you want to do, but we have rigths, lot of countries suport us, taht´s your reality, if you want to stay OK, if not, you can return peacefully to your home, de donde nunca debieron slair para reclamar derechos ahora-

My worst nigthmarish is NOW when I discuss whit an guy whio believe british when he born in Southamerica-

Que tengan una linda navidad y conversen seriamente con vuestros familiares sus opciones de futuro porque se les viene la noche-

yawn !!!! I think there are international laws against a monopoly in the modern world (solo para negros).
As an Argentine I demand for the world to respect Argentina's self determination, and I will like to ask for governments and intitutions around the world to not meddle in Argentina political inclinations, and for the Argentine's who are not happy with the current situation to get ready for the next elections in 4 years, thanks, and long live democracy.

Pirat-Hunter you say that, As an Argentine you demand for the world to respect Argentina's self determination,

As Falkland Islanders we work to get the world to respect the Falkland Islands write self determination,

you may think that you can demand respect,

we as Falkland Islanders know that you must Earn Respect,

so demand respect just like you demand the Falklands, but you will not get either one,
