These statements merely confirm the ever closer relationship bewtween the South American republics who finally are getting over all the years of rivalry and realise that closer coperation is the way forward.Argentina-Chile trade over the years has been pathetic but is now growing spectacularly. This interdependence will bring the countries ever closer. Some island in the cold North sea will be ever more insignificant to all the republics.

And how the hell is a statement by Rio group an official statement by chile's government? Err its not, its an official statement from the rio group (not chile) based on a majority agreement between members of Rio Group. Which members agreed however and which members did not is unkown.

    @5:
Who gives a monkeys what the Rio Group says? It's cronyism pure and simple (that and trying to get Argentina to stop moaning) and nobody takes any notice of it. It allows Chile to hide in a joint statement without having to do anything about it.

And anyway, if you read the rest the the statement, it's just the same old rhetoric calling for “negotiations in order to reach as soon as possible a fair, peaceful and lasting solution to the sovereignty dispute.” They are supporting Argentina's rights in the dispute, and not saying that Argentina is right.
Certainly no mention of support for “recovering” the islands for Argentina.

And obviously you did not read correctly Clarin...
“tuvo mucho que ver la lógica de relacionamiento que tiene el mandatario uruguayo con la presidente Cristina Fernández, con la que de a poco va logrando destrabar asuntos pendientes entre ambas naciones y de especial al hecho de que Argentina acceda a profundizar el canal Martín García.”
Argentina agree to the deepening of the MArtin Garcia Canal...Dumb,LIAR!

@10 - Yes, and falklands flagged vessels can simply raise the red ensign or their own nations flags - So much for stopping ships travelling to and from the falklands which is what argentina wanted originally, regardless of flag used.

So the ban on using South American ports is basically a failure before it even started, and it fails to change anything or make any difference. So the real question is - What is argentinas next move going to be?

All the countries of Latin America are in favour of the Argentinian position as a lot of other countries in the world. As an example, I´m not argentinian, but it´s clear that the British try to detract all the people who don´t support their lies because they don´t have valid arguments to steal the Malvinas Islands. UK has the Islands only because this country imposes its wrong arguments and its partial view of this issue, using the military force as it done in other territories stolen before. But don´t worry you can be sure that sooner or later the truth will prevail and the british pirate colony will end.

You are correct which is why you will notice in this forum how only the British are making the threats. They illustrate perfectly how britain has declined as a world power and as a civilised nation and of course, they demonstrate how impotent britain has become. It is hardly surprising that british employers prefer to employ eastern europeans, as they are more intelligent than the average drink sodden foul mouthed lazy brit.
Take my advice and just sit back and relax and watch how quickly this situation will escalate from political rhetoric to crisis, with all of south america fully supporting Argentina's claim, and britain will be alone this time as the USA has too many interests in south america and politically, is a very different nation to that in 1982.
Europe will do nothing but try to persuade britain into a peaceful settlement.
A total embargo on the malvinas including a withdrawal of the air connection with Chile will soon be in force with all sea and airports in south america denied to anyone en route to or from the malvinas.
Lets see how much the british taxpayer is willing to pay to keep their beloved Islands.

You need to know that not only the argentinian people know that it is a british pirate colony, there are a lot of people around the world that think so, because they know that these territories were stolen using military force. It´s very clear that the british have a long history of stealing territories and the Malvinas Islands are only a little example of that. In addition, you need to know that a lot of people around the world know that name of the Islands is “Malvinas” and not “Falklands”.

What you all seem to miss is, the central bankers, controlled by the US Federal Reserve (read Rockefellers) and London City (the Rothchilds), need a war to distract their citizenry from the misery of their plight. There will likely be a war and, unfortunately, South America will probably fall into the trap being set.

Besides, South America has so many natural resources, it's just too hard for them to resist.

South America will only back you with deleted words and mistrust,
They will never back you with anything else, military or otherwise,

CFK knows this very well, that’s why she will try anything and everything to get others to do her dirty work, threats and indoctrination works seemingly well on her own people, but not on others, who know very well no one would support Argentina against anything other than talking,

She would be condemned world wide if she tried it,, sooner or later she will tire of her own mutterings
And retire, before her own defence people put a ring round her,
When ether the brainwashed Argies believe it or not, the Falklands will be your Achilles heel,
This tiny little peaceful unarmed island will yet see the demise of the pretend giant that gave up everything to get her, and failed, how will history tell the story of a giant of a country
Pulled down and humiliated by an island 50 times smaller than argentine,
A once great country that had everything in it favour, throwing it all away, because of one persons
Deluded obsession to stalk something she can never have [the Falklands].

Like you would if you were walking in a park with your wife and just a few yards away there was a group of rude, aggressive, dirty and obviously lacking in IQ juvenile delinquents hanging around with nothing better to do than try to terrorise everyone around them.

    Bruce,

Chileans do not hate Argentines. Of course there are factions on both side of the border that hate each other's guts, mostly for stupid stuff, but you seriously believe what you are writing? You know how many Chileans come to Mendoza on long week-ends and befriend us at bars and nightclubs? Right now Chile (and Uruguay), are overrun by touristing argies, everyone having a great time... have you even set foot in South America?

68, Tobias, I've had the privilege to visit South America dozens of times- it's our closest neighbour. I always love spending time there. Mainly in Chile but sometimes in Argentina or further north as well. In Patagonia on both sides of the border it is obvious to me that the people in these regions feel so removed and sort of disregarded by their capital cities of BA and Santiago that they almost feel like they are a separate identity. Apart from some silly border disagreements in that area the people there get on nicely. In Santiago and BA though I find it different. Of course people visit each others countries and have fun in their bars and resorts. Its just human nature for individuals to get along. The hatred is by the people as a whole against the systems in charge that are making the decisions that affect everyone.

Tobias have you ever visited the islands that are at the centre of this debate? Do you know anything at all about them first hand?

Anyway, have a good day. I need to get out of bed soon to get ready for work. I have a very early start today.

Well, I understand how Patagonians can feel removed, so do people in the far north of Argentina, but that happens in any nation of vast size. That is nothing exclusive to Argentina, or even Chile (though historically, Chilean Patagonia has felt a bit more slighted by Santiago, sometimes staging protests and claiming they get more assistance from Argentina, their words). Heck, many in my home province of Mendoza feel that it is slighted by putting more money into the coffers than it gets in return. And there are many private studies that corroborate that. But that is uninteresting interal argentine political chinaneries. But Argentina is one of the very few countries in modern times never to have true secessionist movements. There is a unifying force across the country, somehow. I'm not sure how the Patagonians could feel neglected when they pay half for gasoline... Sure distances are longer, but we in the big cities like Mendoza, Cordoba, Rosario help subsidize that, and their salaries are higher!

Southern Cone relations, for all the colorful commentary here by some, has never been better. It may be a sad statement of how it was in the past, but no one can deny relations today compared to 40 years ago are night and day.

No I have never been to the Falklands. I'll be honest with you, I'm not hugely interested overall, which may surprise you given my presence here, yet wish the population well, with safety and peace of mind, something I hope for any citizen of this world. Of course if someday aleatory circumstances favor it, I would not refuse to go and look forward to it, but I'm not sure I ever will, I do not see how my life or work would cross paths with the islands any time soon.

What I have learned in this forum:

    a) Argentina has human right levels similar to Syria, an economy like Haiti's, and will soon collapse into a lake of fire. [not true]

    b) The USA, and UK/Europe have in fact collapsed and they are propitiating the gods for salvation [not true ]
    try again …..

It is almost inevetable that south american countries will come together, as europe has done , albeit some countries kicking and screaming. The forces involved are to great to resist.
However part of that process will be human rights & democratic freedoms go up the agenda.
By the time south america is united enough to act in concert, much of south america would not support it on human rights grounds

Malvinas recovery for Argentina must become a “Chilean cause”,
    That’s a pretty COLD cause,
They say its hidden in the middle of Antarctica somewhere,
But we think it is just a myth,
But hey, we have the Falklands,
    And its British .

    @Tobias.

How much of Argentina have you personally visited? (this is real curiosity and not an attempt to wind you up).

It must take a long time to get from one place to another by road, your country covers a huge area. It can take quite a few hours to get from where I live (central England) up to Scotland with my mates when we go on holiday.

I have been very priveleged to be able to visist the virtually every corner of the UK, from the Shetlands down to the Isle of wight. The only 2 parts I have'nt visited yet are cornwall and the isle of man.

I have toyed with the idea of going to the Falkands as a tourist, just because it is so remote. I thought it would be a bit of an adventure. Besides, I love astronomy and would like to see the southern cross and the clouds of magellan.

Would any of the Falklanders on the forums have any thoughts on this?

Is well known in inner circles in the foreign relationship office that Chilean official side is with UK after all UK sold us their most powerful radar we are the second country that possess the most powerful radar of the UK, they don´t sell it to anyone that radar is the jewel the UK navy I still don´t why they gave us that piece of technology
