The Spanish minister said he hopes to meet with Foreign Secretary William Hague soon and when he does Hague will tell him the same message as he told Argentina. The inhabitants interests come first.

There is some logic behind this idea, in the European Parliament elections, votes cast in Gibraltar have counted towards the SW England constituency for the last two sets of elections.
Spain protested their inclusion, taking the matter to the European Court of Justice, where they lost.
