  • Be serious

Sounds great but for Argentinians it's a case of “them and us”.
Islanders held out hand of friendship and real progress was being made until the creepy Kirchners came along.
Goodbye Argentoon you're leaders are a bunch of jokers.
    Hey how about :-
    “The Kirchner Family”
Could be a good new TV comedy series.

    “appointed” in colonies.

    “voted” in democracies.

Husband president, then wife president and then son president! Wow that sounds like a really good democracy.

Billy, the job is a Civil Service administrative position, not a government minister position. Those posts are appointed everywhere on the planet, including Argentina. And your government ministers are not elected either, they are appointed.

The interim post that Keith is filling is that of CE of the Falkland Islands civil service. It has nothing to do with running the country. That job is for the democratically elected politicians. The two duties (CE and elected member) are separate. The CE reports to the elected members. Like the CE of any organisation, it is a job that anyone can apply for. The successful candidate goes through a recruitment process like anyone and the decision is made internally (in the Falklands).

Your post intimates that the leader of the Falkland Islands is appointed (you probably assume by the UK) but this simply is not true.

    Sorry to spoil your story.

    Keith wrote in his site:
“We had enormous difficulty finding information about the Islands before we came to live here”
Interesting, now he was voted( appointed) as a Chief Executive of this 19th century British colony in Southern Argentina.

What's your point? He is filling an employment post in the civil service. Is that hard for you to understand? Do senior civil service posts in Argentina get filled by cronies as favours from corrupt politicians? Is that what's making it hard for you to get?

The post Keith is filling is not one of any sort of governor or political leader.

    British colony in Southern Argentina

Geography not a argie strong point

Isla Martín García is an Argentine island off the Río de la Plata coast of Uruguay. The Argentine exclave island is within the boundaries of Uruguayan waters

Appointing a civil servant isn't such a hard concept to understand, so why do Argentines seem to struggle the common world-wide concept...? Well either they are dim or they love to twist anything they can to support their own illogical, irrelevant, irresponsible, illegitimate colonial claim over the Falklands. I see Argentina appointed a (powerless) Governor for the Falklands....the Falklands didnt elect that Governor...so by their shallow and idiotic interpretations that is proof of their colonial ambitions regarding the South West Atlantic islands.

Argentines are not very bright, given the choice between fascism and democracy they have chosen fascism every time. Given the choice between American hegemony and being an independent nation, they have chosen America hegemony every time, characterised by its attendant secret police (NSA, CIA, Special Forces and other such gestapo trappings, including their own) and an attendant military or militant right government.

Given the choice between being diplomacy and child like spats of anger and lies, they choose child like spats of anger and lies.

Argentina has never recovered from being a wannabe be Axis power in the 1930's. Argentina's version of fascism (like that of Spain's) remained undefeated by WW2 Allied powers. It hadn't even had to fight a real civil war to maintain power, just murder 50,000-100,000 of its own unarmed political activists and we all know how easy that was for their brave and heroic military men, like their hero Commander Astiz.

It took the Falklands War to shake the Argentines into some semblance of reality. Remove their military government and see the Americans as something other than a benevolent uncle, rather more like a the uncle you kept your children away from, you know the one in the old mack who always had his hands in his pockets and a grimace on his lips.

But within a few short years a girl came alone, a wannabe Eva Peron and took them all the way back to year zero! And the Argentine people gave up their collective memory and switched back to servile child.

In the West it's very difficult to understand how the average Argentine thinks. We have to imagine how our own per-adolescent children think and we can then get into their mindset. Give them a box of toy soldiers & some flags to play with and they are as happy as pie, tell them that they can't own Tracey Island though and they will cry their eyes out.

At school, the teachers would always tell them “Tracey Island” was their's. Even though the reality was, it wasn't..
