US experts have argued that sugars and sweeteners added to foods pose such a serious health risk that they should be controlled in the same way that alcohol and tobacco are, according to commentary in the journal Nature. Read full article

You don't say….
Scandinavian Countries are applying this kind of taxes since the sixties.
They are called “Detox taxes” or in vernacular “Afgifter”...
More recently a “Detox tax” on fat has been introduced…
Guess who fights us all the way, citing and misusing principles as “Personal Freedom” and “Self-Determination”...?

The true Agenda from the US: Ban sugar from sugar cane and continue with the (subsidized) high fructose korn based sugar what is sweeter than sugar from sugar cane. Now the so called sweetners, created by the pharmaceutical industry and the biotech/GMO company Monsanto are the most dangerous ingredients according to most studies, but still approved by the FDA as save by consumers (Note: Monsanto had people who worked at FDA and still does) . Just do your homework about “aspertame” what you can find in all “diet” food and drink products..famous one..diet coke. Imagine, 2 whoppers and a Diet coke.

Aspertame=Splenda=Nutrasweet..etc etc..all those fancy sweetners name.

I'm not up on nutrition but hasn't life expectancy increased while sugar and sweetener consumption has increased.I think some of the sweeteners are carcinogenic thought?

You think right, just read about Aspertame and you'll know and think more than twice about for example..drinking a “Diet Coke/Coca cola light”.
