The US administration of President Barack Obama is loosing its patience with Argentina and in coming days is expected to finalize special tariff benefits for certain Argentine exports. Read full article
This article is a bit all over the place, both for Mercopress and regular contributors here who push forth a certain narrative. Relations souring but the effect the US has on Argentina with this is effectively 0%.
Further, how can the US claim the Argentine peso has strongly appreciated when everyone here insists it is weak? Of course, our resident economists seem to not understand that while the nominal face value of the ARS is 4.30/4.50, the real value is much higher than 3 years ago because of internal inflation.
If you are an American and came in 2009 and got 400 pesos for your 100 dollars, you could buy 5-6 nice dinners. If you came today and got 450 pesos, you can only get 3. So while the face value exchange seems similar, the real costs are not. Argentina has reflated in value from within, not through the currency value.
The only thing consistent in all this is the complete amateurism and nauseating diplomacy of the Kirchner government, on that we can all agree.
But how can this be!? argentina must have sent their best man to sweettalk obama....

It looks like there is going to be a huge devaluation coming. If they take it to 10 it MAY keep the economy going until the next harvest but maybe not who knows at this point.

So while the face value exchange seems similar, the real costs are not. Argentina has reflated in value from within, not through the currency value.
What a load of illogical bollocks that is tobias. According to your logic, the increased value of th peso in the last 3 years has resulted in the cost of food, increasing by 50%. Sorry but if you went by increased value in currency the you would beable to buy more than 6 meals today, and not 3. Yes the value of the peso has increased in the last few year until recently when CFK put measures in place to devalue it, no one here has said that it was not increasing in value the last few years only that in recent months your government has been devaluing it. Inflation is what has lead to you only being able to buy 3 meals today instead of 6 like you could 3 years ago for 400 pesos (as per your example amount). Your inflation is out of control, it has doubled in 3 years going by your example, which in turn knocks the value of the peso down as well, as despite the value rising in the peso in recent years, it has been devalued by 50% in 3 years. Therefore effectively worth half what it was worth 3 years ago (despite the value on the exchange), meaning prices have doubled as a result. Serious leanr economics before posting crap. Inflation does not lower the Exchange rate, it lowers the value of a currency purchasing power. For example, say 1 peso was worth 1 GBP, the peso had an inflation rate of 25% and the GBP had an inflation rate of 5%. The price of goods purchased in peso will be 20% higher for the same goods purchased using GBP, despite the exchange value being the same. Thats how your currency has devalued, and by devaluing it further like CFK has with import restrictions, the inflation rate will grow futher, making items even more expensive.
@16 I think it's all academic as no one is going to Argentina in order to buy meals, and no one in Argentina is allowed to leave because they cannot get holiday money out of ATMs.
@17 agreed, but i get the impression tobias was trying to defend what is indefensible using very poor logic, as all his example did was confirm that inflation is rife in argentina and resulted in the cost of meals increasing by 50% in the last 3 years. Though given the increase in inflation in the last 3 years, that is not surpirsing lol
And just what did you all expect from Argentina, a repeat performance of course.......for your viewing pleasure:

@18 I agree, your understanding of the underlying mathematics is sound. However, these argtards don't really like clear methodical logical discussions, they get upset by them. They prefer it when people just get very very angry and upset and then forget that underlying this is the fact they're quite simply getting the shaft.
Stick to the strategy of illumination, it will not let you down.
... meanwhile in Argentina they're offering to pay for unpaid sh!t bonds with sh!t bonds at a discount! hooray!
18. As I have said many time simple math and logic are beyond their comprehension.
I'm still waiting for dumb Axel to explain to me how an 18% wage increase from a 2 yr old base has kept up with a yoy 25% inflation and probably 35% this year. Not to mention what that salary looks like in U$ terms. He's making about U$ 100 less a month than he was 2-3 yrs ago and thinks he is richer!
So what you guys are saying is that Argentina has bullied its neighbors and the rest of the world, and that is wrong and cowardly, so to adress this... the world should bully Argentina.
Fantastic logic guys. 180 score. At least the hypocrisy is out in the open.
Where are the argies? Shouldn't they all be on here bitching at the U.S. and explaining how this is all part of the argie Grand Plan for argie world dominance?
22. By bullying do you mean making Arg live up to the treaties and contracts they ratified? Do they teach honor in your country? Does anyone in that horrible place know that there are at least 2 sides to an agreement and BOTH must be upheld if agreed upon?
The USA has never upheld any agreements, so I guess you would know. The whole world regards you as a most dishonorable society. Or do you think you have some many enemies out of jealousy.
Its funny, because people like you laugh that Argentines are brainwashed, yet many if not most Americans are equally brainwashed into believing they are hated in so many parts of the world because they are free LOL!
26. Whah whah our might makes us right...always. We can do what we want, when we want and dare people to try to stop us.
I think you are jealous. At least w/my passport I can travel most anywhere in the world without have to beg for a visa. Oh and lest we forget the U$ is still accepted everywhere in lieu of their own countries currency. You can't even use the peso in Uruguay! Just those 2 things makes me a lot more free than you ever will be.
Nice Prophesy, my prophesy is your children and grandchildren will be working for mine and I bet that is much more accurate than your ominous prediction.
What do you watch Al jazeera News? I travel all over the world Americans are very easy to spot. We don't hide other another's flag. Everyone I know is very proud to be from the USA!
Nice current news story, shall I find one of RG vigilantes burning down someone's house or killing a suspect? Because that happens at least once a week in your country.
Hey, at least I'm not claiming our police departments are paragons of probity. It was you who said in America everyone trusts the police.
I see, they trust the police so much that minorities are scared to death of them, avoid them at all costs, and the white-anglo majority sets up civilian watches because of the rampant rise in crime, that they claim the police cannot stop they always get away.
So the whites feel insecure, the minorities feel insecure. Wonderful society.
Of course not, because it is the poor who live segregated in their part of town, between the railtracks and the expressway overpass. The police won't go in there but make sure the darkies don't get out an about, you wouldn't want a darkie walking about a non-black area, that's dangerous.
Talk about losing the argument, you bring something completely unrelated. 250k illegals? You do know it is 2012 not 2002. Little Buenos Aires in Miami is long gone, I read a paper article recently about that and 10 years ago it was full of argies, now you can hardly find any. The moving companies from the USA to Argentina have multiplied in the last four years of argies getting out of the USA.
BTW, I know of no-one living with guards in front or behind their house. You must have been involved in interesting business.
Do you think the Congress of the USA cares what you say tobias? roflmao
Why would someone like you have children? Homosexuals don't have children.
Your racist opinion of argentines doesn't matter xbarilox. You are a racist against argentines, and that's all there is to say about it. Face the facts.
Who cares about the Congress of the USA? They have a 0.0007% on us. WHOA,
I love to see argies pretending they live up to anything they sign. They come on here pretending to be full of honour and integrity, and then they immediately renege on something or other.
Is this why Tobias refuses to admit any fault on the part of Argentina. He simply just performs some weird not-logical ad hominem attack on anyone who says anything about how they are basically a third world state full of people with a third world mentality. Woe betide anyone who dares point out that they illegally invaded the Falklands in 1982 because that's apparently categorically false and the Peace Ship Belgrano was going around sending children rainbows when it was sunk.
Argentinians are precisely the reason I wear a seatbelt in a car and a helmet when on a bicycle.
@32 Tobias never lost an argument, because he never had an argument. Everything you said was backed up with fact, everything he said was just opinions about the USA, not in anyway based on the point you made.
He just resorts to attacking the source. Bad debating tactic.
33. Every nice neighborhood in the Northern BA suburbs has security guards they're on every corner and even in Palermo Chico Belgrano R, and some other nicer parts of downtown. Won't they let you walk around those neighborhoods?
You've never been to the USA right? Did we deny your visa is that why you are so bitter?
Toby, do you know what race means? There are 5 and Argentinian is not 1 of them but maybe it should be! Can I be racist against a Canadian? You're getting dumber by the post. Maybe its time to take a little break.
I see you guys are losing it when confronted with the truth.
Anglo countries have been ultra racist, White only immigration policies, Apartheid, Segregation laws, all wonderful staples of 20th century anglo countries. FACT.
You are the ones pissed at the messenger. That's what happens when you insult my country day after day calling us nazis. Now I repeat, take it like men or get out of the kitchen.
@38 Losing what exactly? You don't ever follow any point, just resorting to ad hominem attacks rather than say anything with an ounce of validity. So what's there to lose?
Anglo countries have been ultra racist so what you're doing there is being racist about racism. You specifically negatively judged a whole race through your opinion of a stereotyped behaviour. Well done Mr Hypocrisy. You didn't even give any concrete examples, like how the British helped to eradicate the slave trade in most nations, including the middle east and asia.
You're just really upset because 'Anglos' as you call them are very good at making money and making societies that even 'god's chosen people' the Jews are envious about. Whereas you folks cannot even make a place anyone wants to live, and bully each other into intense rudeness.
So you helped eradicate an evil you yourself created! LOL
So if I invent Smallpox 2.0 and release it to the world, and then announce I have the cure, I'm a hero? Typical Anglo logic.
You were the one who invented stereotyping a whole race (I though Anglo wasn't a race according to yankeeboy), by your month long Spanish-language/culturephobic commentary. :)
Institutionalized, in your face, legal, real. That's the 20th century in the anglo-nations for you. Whatever your material wealth (which is now declining), it was erased by this sin, denying basic human rights BY LAW to millions in your own nations. Racist fools, fact.
I never said such a thing, seems you've lost the ability to read as well.
I'm really starting to believe this is someone else on tobias's account, he was debating in an adult like fashion before this afternoon and now only seems to be able to offer childish nonsensical posts.
I was tired of adult debate and then reading time and time again how all of you (including yourself), would insult my country behind my back in the other topics.
When I see a week of civil discourse on the other side without calling me nazi when someone finds out where I'm from, I'll revert back.
You can't ignore he who is ignoring you. That is why I'm posting like this. I am ignoring all of you and just facing you with some facts.
Too late now for negotiations. Even Greekyoghurt said some good things recently. This was a week ago remember? Then I did go away (I have a life), and come back and saw the humiliations had gotten to a new level.
I'm slow to anger, but when you do... sorry, but total war is total war. Sadly it means collateral damage sometimes which maybe someone like you. But you did not stop the others from such language, nor did the serious posters. So there is some hand of responsibility there.
I don't really care if you think you are waring with anyone, that is an empty and pointless threat online.
Really do you think anyone will care if you act like Marcus/Think et al? They won't they will just treat you like an idiot from this point forwards and only reply to mock and insult you.
@50 Unlike you, i'm not in Maximo's Hitler Youth 'Le Camping', and unlike you I won't be asked (told) to work in one of his many new hotels or fly in a plane that really should have been filled with foam somewhere in Nevada, many moons ago.
Europe might suck, in your opinion. You're entitled to your own opinion in Europe, not in Argentina.
See it as failed diplomacy on the part of your side. You turned me to the dark side (I still despise the K's, but they are right bout sticking it up to you foreigners). All of you suck, Europe, NOrth America, Latin America,China, Africa... and are not worthy of any friendship from us.
@52
Don't you have a BNP meeting this saturday at the playground?
I really hope this US hypocrits come to Argentina go returned Malvinas Argentina to us, otherwise we should lock this politician up and hung them or execute them as Saddam and bin Laden where.
You must be part French, because you smell like roquefort and put up the white flag faster than Argentina did for some stupid islands. I'm insulting you all over and all you can say is that?? Makes me contemn you more.
We think Toby should be awarded the bloggs medal, for standing his ground, he may be wrong, but he stands his corner, while the rest of the argie indocronoughts including mr think,, hide away in splendid isolation.
tobias,
Don't take it too hard.
Have a nice mug of coffee, watch a comedy on tv & settle in for the night.
Winter is on its way, m'lad.
(put some baily's lrish cream in your coffee!)
@26 A good starting point. Please list all the agreements that the USA has not upheld. Then list all the ones it has. In other words, prove your statement.
@28 Seen lots of Americans travelling with the Stars and Stripes on their baggage. Don't see many argies doing the same. Ashamed? Understand that no-one would recognise the dishrag?
@31 I won't have children. In other words, you're a faggot, a lesbian or a transexual.
@38 The truth? How would you go about recognising the truth? From your government-dictated education? From your government-controlled media? How much stuff from the rest of the world do you reject because it doesn't fit your preconceptions?
@40 Would you like to trace the origins of slavery? Asians. Then Mediterranean countries. Africa was into it from the start.
@48 Start from the beginning. It's not an insult if it's the truth. Let's see. Argie troops use people's homes, beds, furniture as places to defecate. That's truth. Argies invade a peaceful country. That's truth. Argieland accepted loads of nazi war criminals and let them live free. That's truth. Argie methods are similar to nazi methods. No ovens. The River Plate from 10,000 feet. Nothing to shovel up afterwards. And let's face it, argie railways aren't safe.
@ 50 Europe sucks. So does a black hole. And argieland is a bit of debris.
@53 Worthy of friendship from you? Is anybody looking for friendship from an imbecile, insane leper? I think not!
@57 Please don't worry. Argieland will be purged.
@59 Do you understand that you are already dead? You are just waiting to be disposed of. Keep cool. We will dispose of you. Meat grinder. Starting at the feet. Wouldn't want you to miss anything. And what a good source for nuclear fuel. No residue.
@61 Just remember that sh*te floats!
40 tobias (#) It seems you quote a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid, yet you haven't read it. It was the Boers who imposed apartheid not the Anglos.
@72 briton,
My Grandad was Ground crew in the RAF.
He missed the Battle of Britain.
Served in lndia, Mesopotamia & North Africa.
He was in the seige of Tobruk with the Aussies.
Loved his stories,
The best one, during a German air raid, a bomb dropped right down into the bomb shelter & didn't go off.
When they defused it, it was full of sawdust & had been manufactured/sabotaged in Czechoslovakia.
l owe my life to the Czechs.
very interesting, mine was in the ack ack and was at liverpool dockes during raids, did not go overseas, but the world owes a great deal to the people who gave their lives for freedom and democracy,
a shame that we have fools like CFK today that wants to destroy the very thing, that makes the world a safer place to live,[democracy and freedom]
and the UN sits back and sleeps .
73 lsolde (#) I am delighted you have RAF in your background!!! I did my CCF in the RAF and then became a pilot in my own right when I returned to this country. I was then drafted for military service here and as I was a pilot I was sent to Officer Training School. The air force and navy are the decent guys here. I am vice chairman of the Buenos Aires Branch of the Royal British Legion which we are having to close down due to stupid beaurocracy in London. Aviation is a brotherhood and we all feel very close regardless of where we live.
@75 Tim,
Actually we were always a Navy family.
Grandad, for his own reasons, broke the mould.
Loved his stories. They should have been written down & now they're lost as he died 5 years ago.
When l was going to school in Australia l had a best friend as you do.
His Grandad was in the RAAF based in Lincolnshire throughout the whole war. Don't know the squadron but it was Lancasters.
Have to admit that l have had the controls of a Beechcraft Baron in my nervous little hands.!
l was sitting next to the pilot & he let me fly her for 20 minutes or so!
Completely illegal of course!
ls life difficult for you, where you are?
lt would be a balancing act, wouldn't it?
A pity that its come to this. l believe that we were good friends once.
We could be again, if the RGs would back off & drop their ridiculous claims.
The road that they are taking leads no-where.
Regards
Isolde, this link on the Kasciuszko 303 Squadron is specially for you. I am married to a Pole and yesterday our 5th grandchild arrived. My in-laws were both with the RAF in the war and my mother-in-law, at 93, still keeps on working and won't give up. The RAF base in Linconshire was where the Dam Busters left from, I flew a Vulcan simulator there. The Latino RGs are different from the rest of us, a different culture and ethnical origin and there are some issues we don't see eye to eye on such as the Falklands. Enjoy the link:
Yes,Tim,l knew about the Poles & Czechs.
We are forever grateful.
Actually l have an admiration for the both their nations.
The Poles because they have a long glorius history & the poor blighters are located between the Germans & the Russians.
Not an enviable position. l say this & l am part Russian.
The Poles also delayed the Mongol advance into Europe.
Long enough for Mongol politics at home to halt them, then cause them to return to Mongolia.
We could have seen the Mongols on the Channel coast, gathering ships if it had not been for the Poles.
As for the Czechs, the only democracy in Eastern Europe in the 1930's & we British betrayed them in 1938.
l feel guilty about this & l wasn't even born then!
And to compound this, these Gentlemen, at great risk to themselves, came to the UK & fought & died for us. This makes one humble, indeed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Love the sound of the Spitfire's Merlin.
Grandad said it was a 27 litre v-12 of over 1000 horsepower.
What l wouldn't give to fly one of those!
G'dad was an engine & airframe fitter & rebuilt damaged aircraft.
As you can see, l was very close to my G'dad.
78 lsolde (#) The RR Merlin eventually reached 2,600 HP in the Series 130. I was at Duxford a few years back watching the Spits fly and the sound had the hairs on my arms standing on end. The US built the Merlin engine as a Packard and it was used in the Lightening and Mustang.
As for the Mongols, they did reach Poland but how far in I don't know, as my wife is descended from Ghengis Khan's grandson. She also as a good dose of Russian. A proper Tartar in all senses!!!

Mar 24th, 2012 - 11:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0@17 agreed, but i get the impression tobias was trying to defend what is indefensible using very poor logic, as all his example did was confirm that inflation is rife in argentina and resulted in the cost of meals increasing by 50% in the last 3 years. Though given the increase in inflation in the last 3 years, that is not surpirsing lol

@18 I agree, your understanding of the underlying mathematics is sound. However, these argtards don't really like clear methodical logical discussions, they get upset by them. They prefer it when people just get very very angry and upset and then forget that underlying this is the fact they're quite simply getting the shaft.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 12:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Stick to the strategy of illumination, it will not let you down.
... meanwhile in Argentina they're offering to pay for unpaid sh!t bonds with sh!t bonds at a discount! hooray!
18. As I have said many time simple math and logic are beyond their comprehension.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 12:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'm still waiting for dumb Axel to explain to me how an 18% wage increase from a 2 yr old base has kept up with a yoy 25% inflation and probably 35% this year.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 01:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Fantastic logic guys. 180 score. At least the hypocrisy is out in the open.
Where are the argies? Shouldn't they all be on here bitching at the U.S. and explaining how this is all part of the argie Grand Plan for argie world dominance?
Mar 24th, 2012 - 01:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 022. By bullying do you mean making Arg live up to the treaties and contracts they ratified? Do they teach honor in your country? Does anyone in that horrible place know that there are at least 2 sides to an agreement and BOTH must be upheld if agreed upon?
Mar 24th, 2012 - 02:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And they think they are going to try to screw the US businesses providing support services to the oil industry. Bring it on Tinman.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 02:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The USA has never upheld any agreements, so I guess you would know. The whole world regards you as a most dishonorable society. Or do you think you have some many enemies out of jealousy.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 02:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Its funny, because people like you laugh that Argentines are brainwashed, yet many if not most Americans are equally brainwashed into believing they are hated in so many parts of the world because they are free LOL!
What a pathetic place.

Mar 24th, 2012 - 02:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think you are jealous.

I won't have children, sorry. Wrong prophecy.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 03:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Hey, at least I'm not claiming our police departments are paragons of probity.
Much better than yours 250,000 illegal RGs in Miami alone can't be wrong.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 03:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I don't live behind walls with a guard in front and in back of my house like I had to in when I lived in Argentina.
Of course not, because it is the poor who live segregated in their part of town, between the railtracks and the expressway overpass. The police won't go in there but make sure the darkies don't get out an about, you wouldn't want a darkie walking about a non-black area, that's dangerous.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 03:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Talk about losing the argument, you bring something completely unrelated.

Why would someone like you have children? Homosexuals don't have children.
Your racist opinion of argentines doesn't matter xbarilox. You are a racist against argentines, and that's all there is to say about it. Face the facts.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 03:55 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Who cares about the Congress of the USA? They have a 0.0007% on us. WHOA,

Mar 24th, 2012 - 04:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Is this why Tobias refuses to admit any fault on the part of Argentina.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 04:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You've never been to the USA right? Did we deny your visa is that why you are so bitter?
Toby, do you know what race means? There are 5 and Argentinian is not 1 of them but maybe it should be! Can I be racist against a Canadian? You're getting dumber by the post. Maybe its time to take a little break.
I see you guys are losing it when confronted with the truth.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 04:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Anglo countries have been ultra racist, White only immigration policies, Apartheid, Segregation laws, all wonderful staples of 20th century anglo countries.
Mar 24th, 2012 - 04:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Anglo countries have been ultra racist so what you're doing there is being racist about racism.
Get over it, we all did.
So you helped eradicate an evil you yourself created! LOL
Mar 24th, 2012 - 04:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So if I invent Smallpox 2.0 and release it to the world, and then announce I have the cure, I'm a hero? Typical Anglo logic.

Institutionalized, in your face, legal, real. That's the 20th century in the anglo-nations for you. Whatever your material wealth (which is now declining), it was erased by this sin, denying basic human rights BY LAW to millions in your own nations. Racist fools, fact.

Mar 24th, 2012 - 06:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Seriously I think you need to take a break man and get some perspective.
There are extreme posters on either side and there's usually a whole lot more hate from Argentine posters than the other way around.
But hey if you want us to put you in the same box as those other childish moronic idiots then carry on.
It's a shame because you were one of the only respectable Argentinian posters before this afternoon.
If you want to have any sort of impact then you need to post in an adult fashion otherwise the UK/USA posters will simply ignore you going forwards.
You can't ignore he who is ignoring you. That is why I'm posting like this. I am ignoring all of you and just facing you with some facts.

No residue.

When they defused it, it was full of sawdust & had been manufactured/sabotaged in Czechoslovakia.
l owe my life to the Czechs.

Mar 28th, 2012 - 10:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We are forever grateful.
