The University of London’s Institute of Historical Research (IHR) announced that on 19 and 20 May, 2012 it will be holding a two day conference on: The Falklands War: Thirty Years On.
The organizers say the conference “will provide new, early career and established scholars the opportunity to present new research and perspectives on the 1982 Falklands Conflict. It will focus on the war at and from the sea.”
The panel topics include, “lessons learned and lessons forgotten, logistics, intelligence and policy, war memory, the role of women, the cultural history of the conflict and battlefield archaeology.”
Guest speakers attending the conference include Professor Richard Thornton of George Washington University, Washington DC; Dr Ben Jones of King’s College, London; Dr Phillip Grove of Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and Dr Tony Pollard, Director of the Centre for Battlefield Archaeology at Glasgow University and the co-presenter of the BBC series Two Men in a Trench.
There will also be a keynote address by Dr John Lehman, US Secretary for the Navy from 1981-1987.
In 1988 Lehman was at the heart of a major controversy when he said in a BBC television documentary that the United States had provided crucial military aid to London during the conflict and stated that - without this aid - Britain would have lost the war.
Lehman had said that, ”Britain would have had to have withdrawn from the Falklands if the United States had cut off the aid,” a statement that at the time was hotly denied by his British counterparts.
The conference is to be held at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth and includes an evening wine reception on-board HMS Victory.

I heard the Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Henry Kissenger will be attending, he'll be giving a talk on the roll Operation Condor played using Latin American fascist juntas to murder an estimated half a million left wing dissidents on the continent between 1967-1987. He will be delivering an expert lecture on the use of rape and death squads in Latin America. He will be representing Argentina at the event!
