@4 Who you talking to, boy? The Governor represents Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. His presence is part of the UK govermental system. Her Majesty does not interfere in the day-to-day government of Britain and the Governor does not interfere in the day-to-day government of the Falkland Islands. BUT the United Kingdom has given an undertaking to the United Nations that it will ensure good governance. Therefore, Britain must have an official of adequate rank on hand. To ensure, as far as possible, that the place doesn't get taken over by some nasty dictatorship.

Useless discussions. Here and everywhere else. If were a native of the Falklands/Malvinas, I wouldn't like to be treated the way we Argentines are by our governments, most of them, and certainly not annexed as a province to a country where public officials rob it of all its resources and honour, instead of making it the respected nation it used to be. They are traitors to the people that voted them and deserve a punishment close to that of the Bastille. I'd love to have the arcipelagos back, but not at that price. I understand you people. I'd feel the same way you do.

They have to list every camera, laptop, i-pod, money, valuables etc., Then complete a form with serial numbers, models etc. It was a shambles with one person trying to process the huge queue. Hmmm. What is the government worried about?
@14 With FIAT currencies there is no intrinsic value, so it's easy for other people to set up another parallel currency e.g. the 'nupeso' or 'le laptop' and then just start trading with that instead.

After listening to the Falkland Islanders. The process goes like this: argie nincompoops say/do something that affects Falkland Islands. FIG (Falkland Islands Government) responds if it wishes. Governor passes information to the UK. British government responds if it wishes and takes action where considered necessary. For example, British government says “Those argie prats again.” or despatches nuclear submarine armed with nasty things.
