One day after the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the Malvinas war, Bonhams auction house sold a copy of the telegram with which Argentina surrendered in 1982, for £7.250. Read full article
Legally it's a nice document to have, because it shows that Argentina lost the Falklands territories to the UK in a war that they started. That's legally binding under international law.
@4 I think KFC fears this document. It's very very powerful as shown from wikipoodia (can't be arsed to go into my legal books):
The principle was affirmed by the International Court of Justice in the 1986 Case Burkina-Faso v Mali:
[Uti possidetis] is a general principle, which is logically connected with the phenomenon of obtaining independence, wherever it occurs. Its obvious purpose is to prevent the independence and stability of new states being endangered by fratricidal struggles provoked by the changing of frontiers following the withdrawal of the administering power. is a general principle, which is logically connected with the phenomenon of obtaining independence, wherever it occurs. @6 I don't think these Le Camping Argtards know about sovereignty under international law. They run away from courts quicker than you can say 'run away little child, run away'.
The UK doesn't want to go to court because it looks a bit f*cking stupid saying you won it in a war, because let's face it... it's a lot easier to say that then descend into Argentinian revised history arguments. But I guess when needs must, and if it stops the Argies getting their horrible horrible evil paws on those nice falklands folks lives.
Your honour and people of the jury, we were negotiating nicely when the furking argies sent in the military, so we handed them their arses on a plate and we owned the territory as per the principle of uti posseditis, but then we gave them self-governance and a nice constitution... and a nice new airport. I rest my case
@8 don't speak so soon, knowing Argentina there could be someone even worse to fill her shoes. I know she's furking annoying and looks like a slapped-haddock but she's hardly sending in assassins to shoot the islanders, like North Korea did in the Blue House Raid.
What's the document that is framed and hanging on the wall in the Liberation room in the secretariat? Isn't it the same thing? How many copies would there have been?
@13 Multiple copies. It was UNCLAS and therefore no requirement to limit distribution or account for copies. Any operator, clerk, staff officer or commander who saw it could print a copy off or ask for a copy from the tape for their files, for themselves or for their Regimental Museum.
The document should be enlarged and displayed behind KFC when she makes another of her funny speeches, instead of that usual gaudy flag that tends to clash with her equally gaudy attire and tacky jewellery .
@17 I suppose it is starting to get cold there at this time of year, they can't afford coal and oil, and they do need to keep warm. Never mind, we have plenty more copies :D
After the signing of the surrender, Menendez telephoned Galtieri to report the news. Galtieri took it rather badly, didn't say much and hung up. A few minutes later he called back asking When you said surrender, did you mean JUST the Falkland Islands?
It tells you that you LOST. Get your rioters off the streets and lock away your proxy terror group, the ones who look like cock sucking pricks and who would last a day on a military drill square let alone a real war.
When you want to invade again make sure all of your internet warriors, terrorists and rioters are in the first wave of the landing so we can deliver the only message you understand!
