“The Panama flagged cruise vessel M/V Ushuaia is expected to arrive early next week in South Georgia to rescue the stranded 114 passengers and crew of a similar small cruise M/V Plancius”

Don't they mean.......: The Argentinean owned, Argentinean operated, Argentinean based, Argentinean crewed, Panama flagged cruise vessel M/V Ushuaia is expected to arrive early next week in South Georgia to rescue the stranded 114 passengers and crew of a similar small cruise M/V Plancius”

Last time I sailed on the Ushuaia I was somewhere much warmer. Good memories. Sadly the last ship I sailed to South Georgia on is no longer with us.

Do you know why the Ushuaia uses a flag of convenience Think. Rather than that of her company's nation?

    Because it is............................................ convenient?

it would be wise to insist that M/V Plancius is removed from South Georgia as soon as possible; we don't want any 'scrap metal dealers' turning up,do we?

    LOL!

Actually flag or registration of convenience does not really reflect the true situation.

Think - you are quite correct! For one it enables “Ushuaia” to call at Port Stanley and other places in the Islands without any pointscoring/loosing over courtesy flag.
Same as FI registered vessels now fly the red ensign of the British merchant marine when they visit certain S America ports.

    @6

Are you saying the Falkland Islands did not allow ships with Argentine flag to dock there? This is news to me. I only had heard of one incident with a private yacht, I didn't know it was standard practice. If that this the case, then it is the most blatant hypocrisy I have ever seen in my life!

I even came here originally to denounce my country's decision of the flag thing (even though I insisted it had the right to do so).

Argentine flagged vessels are allowed to enter the Falkland Islands and have been for many years. Don't worry, we welcome all outsiders to our country.

Statement on the Grounding of the MV Ushuaia
    Monday, 8 December 2008, 1:45 pm
    Press Release: ASOC

Statement on the Grounding of the MV Ushuaia in Antarctica

On December 4, 2008 the tourism cruise vessel MV Ushuaia1 grounded at position 64º35.5’S 062 º25`W, at the entrance of Wilhelmina Bay near Cape Anna in the NW Antarctic Peninsula. This is one of several maritime accidents by ships operating in Antarctica in the past two years.2

The Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition (ASOC) is relieved to learn that according to industry sources3 there was no imminent danger and no threat to human life. An international rescue was promptly put in place with the assistance of the relevant Marine Rescue Coordination Centers in Ushuaia, Argentina and Punta Arenas, Chile. Several cruise and navy vessels are on or travelling to the site, or on stand-by. The passengers of the MV Ushuaia have been transferred to the Chilean Navy vessel Achiles, which will transport them to the Chilean base Presidente Frei, in Fildes Peninsula, King George Island,4 from where they will be repatriated by plane.

Now, China is getting too exciting to waste my time with a sad do like you so farewell.

Yum, Mrs Bloggs just brought me toast with Vegemite ans a glass of juice and the F1 is exciting. It doesn't get any better than this on a Sunday morning.

And Formula 1 hasn't been exciting since the retirement of the next greatest driver of them all, Jackie Stewart.

7-TTT - Of course they are- so long as they conform with standard International Maritme Courtesy and fly the flag of the port they are visiting- in the-is case The Falkland Islands, from,(not sure of nautical term) but midship somewhere up a mast!
The Ushuaia avoids the embarrassment to Arg of an Arg Merchant marine ship flying an FI or UK ensign in the Islands by having a “conveneience” registry.

All visiting Arg private yaughts are given a suitable flag on arrival by our Customs to fly if they do not already have one onboard.

    Standard Internatiuonal practise I believe.

Actually it would not be Hypocrisy if we refused Arg flag vessels - guess who refuses to accept ours? Both flags are registered on the appropriate
International Body - we are a bit more grown up that the neighbours though and dont refuse theirs in fits of pique.

Think, the 7 lads in question apparently did NOT want asylum nor claimed maltreatment onboards. Simple as that. A bit crazy to go for a dip in these parts I agree! We did not even charges them for all the rescue search, including a certain gent and his helicopter flying time. They were subsequently found onshore - apparently looking for the “city” to phone home!

    Sure, Mr. Islander1..............; suuure……

Even your gullible audience of British Turnips in here would have difficulties believing your haughty story.
(How very British of you, not even charging them for all the rescue search)
All Brits know know, of course, that those Brownish people found walking towards Britain in the Eurotunnel, hiding in containers on their way to the UK, jumping ship on every port of the Kingdom or landing at Heathrow chanting asylum,asylum........................
All of them are just looking for a telephone to phone home.
Just like those seven Vietnamese in Malvinas……

But don’t worry, they care about those Chinks as little as you do…
Most of them are BNP or BFP anyhow…..

You are a twat, you post like a twat, think like a twat and look like a twat now fuck off and play with yourself.

You pathetic nation is full of morons who are poorly educated, totally indoctrinated (with lies and propaganda) and come across as something akin to a cross between Trotskyist Revolutionaries and Nazi Sturm Abteilung stormtroops, but the big difference is they can't fight, they just type crap with the Cap lock on full auto all over the internet. They are a fucking clueless joke.

In my work I meet people from all over the world, I met North Koreans, Zimbabweans, Iranians, etc but they've always been reasonably well educated and know the difference between propaganda and reality. Where-as in Argentina a large section of the population are fanatical nationalists who make shit up and replicate it as facts and their government help stir them up. It's a fucking disgrace.

I got into a number of conversations with Nazi loving Argies. One Booso Tactico vet said he killed a lot of children during the Dirty War and he only wished he could have killed some of the Falklands population, he said their biggest mistake was not killing them all.

This is the kind of scum you support.

None of you arm chair fanatics would last 10 seconds in a real fight.

The only truth you know is that your a troll and a fucking twat.

Hypocrisy? What do you know about hypocrisy, your people occupy other peoples land and have the fucking gall to call others colonialists, while claiming the land they live in as their own. That is hypocrisy at its most gut wrenching.

Argentina is a cuntry slighted by Amnesty International for its ill treatment of the native peoples. There has been no land redistribution, the land was taken from the native peoples under the barrel of a gun both under Spanish and Argentine rule. There has never been a native or non-white president of Argentina. Argentina today is like South Africa was at the high of apatite. The international community needs to insist on land rights issues.

Let's look at divisions of the aboriginal nations in Argentina.

    1) Divided among countries

    The Guarani:
Divided among Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, and Argentina

    The Toba:
Divided among Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay

    The Wichí:
Divided among Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile

    The Chané:
    Divided between Argentina and Bolivia

    The Diaguita:
    Divided between Argentina and Chile

    The Kolla:
Divided among Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile

    2) Divided between Argentine provinces

    The Aonikenk:
Divided between Chubut and Santa Cruz

    The Mocoví:
Divided between Chaco and Santa Fe

The Mapuche were a sovereign country recognized in international treaties since 1640. Argentina genocided and annexed them. Patagonia is their land and SHOULD be RETURNED.

I notice old Rubberface has walked out on the Cartagena summit in a huff according to Al Jazeera because she couldn't get a unanimous statement backing Argentina over the Falklands. Good for the US and Canada but where is William Hague with his 'quiet diplomacy' with regard to the Commonwealth Caribbean countries who seem to have sided with the Argies. Maybe Britain ought to re-arrange its overseas aid priorities and let Argentina pick up the tab for these ingrates.

As you are probably aware, our country has been run by the “enemy within the gates” for a long time. Nu Labour, Nu Condems, can you honestly tell the difference? It's one tragedy after another and the Euro train wreak is still on course, only while they've vied for time they threw a few extra carriages, packed with passengers on to the train ride!

They sold us out to Europe a long time ago and EU regionalism gave us devolution, which in turn has seen our country fragment even further, while a long line of illegal immigrants continue to flood through a door left open - despite spilling unemployment - by successive governments since Thatcher.

Think- actually people here do take very seriously any whisper of strange events on a fishing vessel of oriental ownership/crewing etc.
There have-in years recent past - been several cases of brutality to crewmembers - but always no proof of it done whilst inside out terrtiorial waters so no charges could be made.
BUT - more than one vessel has had is licence cancelled- no refund - and named crewmembers who were accused by the crew of the brutalities - put on a list that excludes them from working in our fisheries zones again. And the affected crrew members given support and accomodation locally, and money and repatriated to their homes at Islands expense. None apparently asked to stay - they just wanted out and home.
Brutality amd maltreated crewmembers forced to jump overboard to escape was indeed at the forefront of everybody,s mind this last time - but it was not so as the 7 themselves were quite happy to voluntarily go back on board.

No power, no steering only being kept afloat by the frantic bailing out of it's passengers while it's crew sits out on the sun deck drinking the bar dry!!

Refused docking at any civilised port it is destined to drft forever on a sea of disenchantment and broken dreams until it final sinks under the wieght of its own corruption........ Guess who will be first into the only life boat?
