“ the IMF will be making a partial evaluation of the Argentine economy main indicators”

I am thinking that that meeting will be a very short one.

It will probably come under the “Any other business” part of the agenda.

Of course Argentina is not *obliged* to pass over this information.

Only if Argentina wishes to avail themselves of international monies to help out the Argentinian economy would this be a necessity.

Argentina is simply saying, we don't want - and don't need - financial advancements from other nations; we are quite satisfied with the financial support we receive from within the basket of South American countries - especially Venezuela - provided without recourse to the international money markets.

The strategy may work, but it may go spectacularly wrong.

The IMF will not 'switch the tap on' for Argentina without the back run of data since 2006 and without the certainty that there will be no further default.
Collapses happen quickly, and the provision and assimilation of the required data happen slowly. The temporal mis-match could well kill off the country.

@3 Might have to disagree with your assertion that “Of course Argentina is not *obliged* to pass over this information.” Have you looked at the IMF's Articles of Agreement, particularly Article IV? But then it's only part of the rules that argieland signed up to. And we all know what their “word” and their signature is worth, don't we?

@8 Conqueror, that's just the beginning. UN Charter Chapter XIV Article 93 Paragraph 1 seems to be ignored completely. “All Members of the United Nations are ipso facto parties to the Statute of the International Court of Justice.” whereas Argentina clearly says that the ICJ has no jurisdiction over it.

Add to that their dismissal of ICSID rulings.

Add to that their dismissal of UN Charter Chapter I article 1 Paragraph 2
“To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;”

There isn't really a lot that Argentina signs up to that they don't really agree with. Kind of time for the UN, IMF, G20, et cetera to kick them out.

Again, WWII we were not attacked by anyone. So no, the nazis were not our enemy. That doesn't mean that they stood for despicable beliefs, but it's not like the allies were a democratic coalition. They were simply defending their bloated undemocratic empires.

I have never been explained why Argentina should have joined WWII, and I will never get an answer because you are all cowards who like accusing us of this, yet never explain why Argentina who had not been attacked nor threatened should have done anything. Interesting you do not hold Sweden or Swizterland to the same standard. I sense racism in the dichotomy quite frankly.

You really have some gall, and shameless effrontery. Not very honorable. On the one hand you keep saying around this website Argentina is not better off (whatever that means, we are better off than 85% of the planet), because Argentines are “stupid”, quote. But when if that's not convenient you want to say it was the USA that did it. I agree the USA stabbed Argentina in the back in the 1940s. But After the mid 1950s European economic growth (France, Germany, Italy and the UK were growing at 7-8% rates then), permitted Argentina to restart exports whether the USA wanted it or not. Argentina simply decided to pursue import-substitution so exports were restricted. The USA had nothing to do with that.

@16 Really? And where do you think IMF money comes from? Are you one of those retards that think there is a money tree somewhere? One thing is certain. There is no finance coming from argieland (an IMF member) because argieland doesn't have any money.
@21 Strange. Argieland generally “demands” on a regular basis. Just for a start, argieland regularly “demands” that the UK negotiate over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. More recently, argieland “demanded” that the IMO do something about the UK firing short-range missiles in UK territory. Then I seem to recall argieland “demanding” a renegotiation of a fisheries agreement that it no longer belongs to. Didn't argieland “demand” information about a British nuclear-propelled submarine? Information that isn't available to anyone outside the British government except the officers of the submarine involved, if any. Try asking the United States for the same information on American submarines. Perhaps you'd like to try passing on your blinding insight to your government. Sorry, that was a joke. The idea that argieland has a government.
@19 & 22 Neither of you would recognise a credible source if it was hanging off your junk.
@24 Meanwhile, there isn't a single country outside of Latin America and that you hate that can match argieland's world record of having a currency worth one ten millionth of what it was worth 40 years ago and STILL has inflation running at 25-30%. But if you're really courteous, polite and ask nicely, we could help you. Living up to your version of our character, we could come along and kill half of you. If, after a year, that hasn't helped, we'll come back and kill half of what's left. And so on. By year 5 most of your problems, and ours, will be over. Ready to sacrifice yourself for your cuntry? You could be number one!
@28 Argieland doesn't know what intelligence is!
@29 Canada wasn't attacked either. Face it, you're gutless. Unless the odds are 66,000 -v- 70.

    @29 tobias

In WW II Britain was not “attacked” by anyone, in fact was the only country to declare war of its own volition.

Britain ended the war with zero gold reserves almost bankrupt, Argentina ended up with the second largest gold reserves in the world, after the Americans (wonder where that all went).

Argentina may not have been directly involved, but it was definitely a player.

Argentina is obviously not the future world player they make out to be, the BRIC countries are stepping forward and supporting the IMF with money for a global recovery.

Where is Argentina in all this?

Whilst Argentina has been out stealing, the rest of the world has been working well in working closer together and showing each other support.

At this rate Argentina will be a country time forgot, left behind with the likes of Iran, Zimbabwe, North Korea and Uganda.

By the way, my Argentinian friends, before you comment on the UK's situation, it has offered a loan of £10bn to the IMF today.

Britain went to war because it was in an alliance with France and Poland. I doubt otherwise the UK would have become involved. Furthermore, it is known now the UK and Germany held some negotiations on some sort of cease-fire. Remember how WWII was called at first?

That's right, the Phoney War. Once Poland fell, France and Britain did squat. Then Finland was invaded by the Soviets... what did the west do? Nothing.

Then Germany invaded Denmark and Norway in April 1940.

    Crickets.

France and Britain only started to fight when France was invaded, and once it fell to the shock of the world, Britain freaked out because they were next. That's when the real stuff started.

Again, no response as to why Argentina had ANY OBLIGATION TO BECOME INVOLVED IN A WAR HALF A WORLD AWAY.

I'm not sure if you are deliberately being dishonest tobias with some of these posts.

Britain declared war on Germany on September 1st 1939 and lost its first soldier in December 9th 1939 (Corporal Priday) fighting on the Maginot line in France. Many more servicemen were lost before the first large scale invasion later on.

Which of course was in May of 1940 - Fall Gelb.

I actually agree Argentina was probably right to stay out of the war, it wasn't able to do much in military terms and if it took a side and had its forces taken out it would be defenseless. In this particular case its actions were logical and entirely reasonable.

I think tobias is having a stroke. He's concerned about the fact the UK didn't go to war without being prepared and he's concerned about how Peron felt the wrong side won WW2, because his friends Hitler and Mussolini lost it.

If I was tobias, I'd be upset that my country was a thinly veiled member of the Axis powers during WW2 and also that they in conjunction with the swiss, the catholic church, spirited thousands of senior ranking Nazis to their country. At least the Swiss spirited lots of British pilots back to the UK during the war, so they were at least marginally neutral, unlike the Argtards and Vaticanazis.

Thankfully I'm not tobias. At least tobias can move to the UK though and start afresh, we'd happily accept him if he repents from his morality free Argtard past. He seems an okay chap, worthy of redemption.

“...The situation changed dramatically after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the subsequent United States declaration of war upon Japan. The United States wanted every Latin American country to join the Allies, in order to generate a continent-wide resistance.[13] The unique Argentine resistance to do so motivated an embargo and blockade against Argentina.[14] Castillo declared the state of emergency in Argentina after the Japanese attack to the United States.”

“The United States denied recognition to Farrell, as he would keep the neutralist policy. Farrell confirmed it on March 2, and the United States broke relations with Argentina two days later. Winston Churchill complained about the harsh policy of the United States against Argentina, pointing out that Argentine supplies were vital to the British, and that by removing their diplomatic presence from the country they would even force Argentina to seek German protection. British diplomacy sought to guarantee the supply of Argentine food by signing a treaty covering it, while US diplomatic policy sought to prevent such a treaty. Secretary of state Hull ordered the confiscation of Argentine goods, cessation of foreign trade with her, avoidance of any of US ships landing at Argentine ports, and he denounced Argentina as the ”nazi headquarters in the occidental hemisphere.“

”By this time, the United States considered the option of supporting Brazil in an attack against Argentina, rather than attacking Argentina themselves. The Brazilian ambassador in Washington pointed out that Buenos Aires could be completely destroyed by the Brazilian air force. This would have allowed Argentina to be dominated without the open intervention of the United States, who would support Brazil by providing ships and bombs.”

How people forget history... quite frankly I didn't now this. So the USA BLOCKADED AND EMBARGOED A country just because it was NEUTRAL. And as I have said, Argentina supplied the UK.

    You can keep lying now.

I always had known Argentina supplied the UK with vital food supplies to ease shortages, yet the British today deny deny and deny. How ungrateful. Even Churchill admits it.

Second it is really interesting to see how the despicable nation of the USA, in a classic fit of wounded vanity, sought to destroy Argentina simply because it had the gall to have an independent foreign policy. As the only nation in the Americas that refused to jump on the “America was attacked, we all were attacked bandwagon”, it reacted to the point of SEIZING ARGENTINE PROPERTY IN THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS (since talking about thieves is a relevant topic this week), blockaded and embargoed Argentina for simply MINDING ITS OWN BUSINESS (sound familiar?), and even invited Brazil to attack a NEUTRAL COUNTRY!! And the wounded vanity continued after WWII.

The United States was so deranged over Argentina not bowing to them, it even caused minor diplomatic rifts with the UK, which were receiving Argentina food products.

This is simply a fantastical thing.

I think we all learned the Argies sold us food in School, but it doesn't mean you supported us. You were ideologically aligned to the Axis powers, and your president clearly expressed his opinion that the wrong side won. The fact we prevented the Brazilians wiping out your capital city should be considered a gift.

However, in the present day, you're busy trying to annex a British Overseas Territory against their will showing that the apple didn't fall far from Hitler's tree.

So I guess what you are saying is “Words are better than actions”. We sold food to you, not much to the Germans and so that doesn't count because of some of the military's ideology. You do know that back then the argie military was mainly German/Italian. It was the business class that was mainly British/French.

Back then almost everyone in Argentina was a 1st generation immigrant. Which explains why the country was so internally torn about how to react to WWII. But why bother with learning a little bit about Argentina, that would ruin our cheap slogans from ignorance.

@60 You're clearly not capable of passing GCSE/O-level Modern World History, but let's just help you out.

The Argies were all but aligned to the Axis powers, selling the British food because they could make a lot of money doing so. The Argtard president supported Hitler and Mussolini, spending time with Both. They were waiting for the UK to fall, so that they could claim the British territories in the Antarctic and South Atlantic, but this never happened. Peron then said he wished the Allies had lost, and began claiming the Falklands again.

The only good people from Argtardia at the time were the British-Argentintians who chose to fight for the Allies, many of them pilots in the 164 Squadron RAF. But they were interview-harassed when they returned because they were seen as enemies of the state.

I wish you Argtardians would learn real history, not Maximo B.S. because then it would save me time.

@66 Sure, GCSE history would tell you that during WW2 Peron was in Germany, France and Italy having fun with his new Nazi friends. Having fun with his Nazi BFFs was Peron's favourite time, before he became VP in the 1940s. Nothing revisionist about those facts.

    Argtards gonna tard.

History would also tell you the allies (you) blockaded and embargoed what was no matter what your excuses still a neutral country just for minding it's own business (SOUND FAMILIAR), since some travelling around isn't exactly harming your men in the front line who probably at some point were nourished argentine beef and grain; expropriated 44 argie companies property overseas (SOUND FAMILIAR), and even planed and urged for other countries to fight your own wars trying to drum up support (SOUND FAMILIAR).

So how can you now call blockading the Falklands, seizing private companies assets, and trying to drum up support something you would know nothing about ... lol. At least Churchill was still a bit of a friend of Argentina.

Argentina just like Greece is making up its macroeconomic stats, specially those of inflation index... is urgent that the IMF review them, before we have another system failure this time due to argentinians...

@69 Argentina was a thinly veiled neutral country during WW2, and immediately afterwards was basically a nazi outpost. We needed the food, so it didn't matter where we bought it from. We had support from lots of countries, so I think you mean the USA wanted the whole of the Americas to support WW2, but many of the south american countries didn't want to.

Your blockade of the Falklands is just an extension of the peron-hitlerist desire to have lebensraum through fair means or foul. That is quite obvious.

    @40 Tobias
Soviets invaded Finland Britian did nothing. Wrong, Britian supplied Finland with Gloster Gladiator Fighters. The last Bi-plane used by the RAF, but still affective against soviet aircraft. This was at atime when war was extremely likely and Britian needed every aircraft she could get.
Germany invaded Norway. Britian and France sent an expeditionary force. This force had no heavy weapons and little air cover,it was the first time Germany used her airborne forces. Britian was forced to evacuate. The Royal Navy had the only success, seriously hurting German naval units.
Following the fall of France, Churchill called for and formed the Commandos. These commandos first action were carried out against German forces in Norway as a result Gemany was forced to deploy divisions to Norway to protect her access to raw materials, iron ore, magnesium etc, which she obtained from neutral Sweden. Those Divisions were forced to remain in Norway, which emant they could not be deployed elsewhere. Do not forget the Norwegians themselfs. Thousands of them escaped and fought on with legendary courage, in the Navy, Army and Airforce. Following the surrender, British Paratroopers flew to Norway to take their surrender. A late friend of mine was one, he was treated like royalty ,he loved the country so much so that after the war, he returned there to train as a teacher.

LOL IMF keeps telling countries what to do?? After all the crisis it has contributet to create in Europe??

It is time to start acting according to values and ideas for better societies, ideas like Freedom, Equity and Fraternity shouldn't be fortotten when the IMF Angela Merkel, Cameron or whoever may try to increase fear in societies.

They try to impose FEAR, always threatening: “If Spain/Italy/Greece don't save up money and take debt crisis will get worse”, while the truth is that the solutions rhey give only make crisis get more and more serious and people see their life standards decrease...

Argentina has been FEARLESS in this project of controlling its energetic resources (like Spain and all the Southamerican countries already do). Argentina has learnt that the IMF never gives reward to countries that do as they say, following their rules only takes countries to debts.

Argentina has paid IMF all the debts. We don't own them anything and the IMF is no authority to tell Argentina what to do.

I hope the media and lower classes in Europe realize soon that getting more and more debt is only gonna cause a deeper recession. How curious that the International Multilateral Comerce forums don't say much about this, maybe they do not represent the interests of the %90 of the world's population.

#74 “merkel and cameron are not the IMF” I agree; the IMF is much more sinister than a couple of here today, gone tomorrow politicians! Anyway if you'r really a Brit worker shouldn't you be concentrating on avoiding getting screwed over by Brit bosses, rather than expressing solidarity with Spanish bosses against the Argentine people?!

@40 You forgot to tell us why Australia, Canada, India and New Zealand, also HALF A WORLD AWAY, got involved. Was it possible that, despite being crushed under the British Imperial heel, they thought it more worthwhile to support Britain than the argie-supported nazis? And perhaps they weren't, and aren't, cowards!
@42 “Argentina did more positive in its first 20 years than the UK has the prior 500 years before WWII, if we want to count that as a service.” What was that then? Rebellion. Armed invasions of Peru, Paraguay and the Banda Oriental. Replacing a legitimate king with a local despot. So many “positive” things. Joke! Argieland hasn't done anything “positive” in 200 years. Unless you count genocide, thieving and starting wars as “positive”.
@44 Oh yeah! The death of 6 million Jews and gypsies that YOU supported. Remember how Gauleiter Peron made it more difficult for Jews that escaped Hitler to get into argieland? Remember how Britain and its allies were fighting and dying while you were doing the tango? Remember how you welcomed the nazi animals so that you could learn more about their methods?
@49 Oh dear, you used “argieland”. Now I'll have to think of a new name. How about “shitland”? A perfect description, wouldn't you say?
@56 Typical argies. Trying to play both sides.
@59 But de Kirchner is kraut, isn't it?
@62 First generation immigrant? Thought you were supposed to have been there, murdering, since 1800. What big generations you have!
    @64 Got your wish then!
@69 Except that WE were fighting a war. But you will soon be losing again.
@73 What a funny little boy (?). “Freedom, Equity and Fraternity”. What would argieland know about any of those. “You are FREE to become an argie”. “Equity - what's our is ours and what's yours is ours as well”. “Fraternity - you too can join La Campora!”
@75 There aren't any “Argentine” people. Just a bunch of hopeless, desperate, Spanish and Italian rebel colonists with imperialist colonialist delusions.
