    6. It is rumored that Nestor pocketed U$300MM from the interest paid to Santa Cruz from the deposits in Switzerland. He returned the deposits but 10 yrs of interest was missing. THere was an“official” inquiry but it was buried after he became Prez.
The rest of the reported fortune came from crony land deals in Santa Cruz, they bought public land for pennies and turn around and sold it for millions. All well documented and apparently legal in banana republics.

I think Cristina played this exactly right, giving him a deserved dressing down but with a light touch. And he has shown maturity by apologising, we don't often get that from British politicians. If he's a loyal and voiciferous soldier of Cristina, then whatever mistakes he's made this week he must be a good bloke over all =)

“It was a joke, the President enjoys making jokes”

I've noticed that, she has a great sense of humour rare among politicians, and it really adds greatly to her charisma. I had no time at all for Hollande who I saw as a grey bureaucrat until I learned about his sensed of humour, then I began to warm to him as a person (though I still don't think he's radical enough to do what's reuired to overcome the austerity crisis)

    Isolde and Yankeeboy,

Given that Nestor stole the US$300 m and Kretina admits to US$70m it would seem to beUS$370m + the properties in Santa Cruz, Buenos Aires, NYC, Caracas, etc.
I am convinced that Nestor is alive and kicking in Venezuela at the moment although with his mate Chavez on the sick list he may have gone to some other hide away, MAYHAP Angola?

@16 Of course she has a great sense of humour. And her biggest “joke”? Being president. She must near kill herself laughing at her “subjects”, and people like you, at the end of each day. I can just see her now. “Love that those mugs think I'm wonderful while I cream off every dollar I can get.” she thinks. “Where's the presidential guard? My mouth is this shape for a reason. Bet I can ”drain“ 50 before I go to sleep.” “My popularity is worldwide. There's even some tosser in Britain that thinks I'm wonderful. Still, I hate the British, so he's not getting my ass.” There you go, B_K, out of luck. Print the piccy and lick it. Closest you're going to get!
@17 Look on the bright side. If you see him and put a bullet through his brain, you can't be prosecuted. He's already “dead”.

    @20

Not at all. Us Brits don't trust our own politicians either. Most of us don't like Blair or Cameron.

The difference is the level of corruption and what is accepted by the population. In the UK the politicians are less obviously corrupt and the courts also pursue corruption more thoroughly. Thats not to say the dodgy politicians are always caught but the attitude towards corruption is stronger in the UK.

    In the UK -
We wouldn't accept the Prime Minister having greatly increased his/her personal wealth WHILST being in office like CFK (who claims to be a socialist).

Boudou wouldnt still be in office for the fact that his connection with Ciccione is a complete conflict of interest with his day job regardless of whether he is guilty or not of corruption.

Anabel probably would have had to resign if he had made those contemptuous comments.

These are just some of the differences.

Deport the 3-5 million illegals plus their legal progeny, and the villas magically dissapear.

I simply don't advocate that because it is inhuman and impracticable, but we know that half of the people in villas are immigrants legal and illegal, not counting the children who are argentine by birth.

This is partly fault of the Americans and Europeans: they demanded Argentina be “progressive” and become “multicultural” (I love multiculturalism, however). The problem is they demanded from Alfonsin that he use amnisty on the illegals... a policy Menem and subsequent peronists continued with alacrity (new found votes).

If Argentina tried to deport all the illegals, and all immigrants granted amnesty that have commited a crime (at least 6 amnesties since 1983), there would be world wide repudiation.

One thing that kind of shock me was how prejudice is common among argentines from euro descent(98 pct of populations) vs mixed

  • tobias

Only 70-72% of the population is clearly of caucasian background in 2010, down from 90% in 1950. 25% are mestizos now.

The reason there is prejudice is because there is indiscrimate immigration into the country. And sadly many criminals from neighboring countries (including ex-Sendero Luminosos, Paraguayan extortionists, Colombian drug dealers, etc), entered and mainly go to Buenos Aires.

Contrast Mendoza for example, where there are 150.000 bolivians (yes, 10% of the population of the province), yet they are treated well and respected because they work hard and pick our crops.

Prejudice is wrong but it does not occur in a vacuum.

I understand... We still have certain groups of the population thatas the people from Texas and other southern states Mexicans because of their looks. Majority of these people were born here and their ancestry has been on this land since before the US ever existed. A few of them speak little English , some of them do not speak Spanish at all and some do both.... But they are as Americans as any other person born here.
Also many rednecks from my area confuse Hispanic with Spanish.... “ hey it s them Spanish people ”
The few years that I was a Texan ( I m from Louisiana but when you get a Texas driver s license you become a Texan and must be a Texan before anything else) I learned a lot about the aforementioned people.... Generally when people think of Americans they think of British descents , Caucasian, when the truth is the opposite ( most of us have Germanic origins, followed by Irish (and Northern Spain/Celtic /Ukranian / Russian why not) if I include myself, also French in south Louisiana and more)( half of my ancestry migrated to The US and half to Argentina)
We are a true melting pot

I don't know much of American racial/ethnic terms, they are quite confusing and frankly of little to no effect onto myself.

Apparently, there is “mexican”, “Hispanic”, “non-white Hispanic”, “puerto Rican”, as racial options. To me it is rigmarole and gibberish.

Hispanic (to some government forms )is anyone born in Latin America or of Latin America descent. ( according to some groups) so technically if you are Caucasian but born in Argentina you are Hispanic. Puerto Ricans are Hispanics according to the definition.
Someone born in Spain would not be Hispanic because of geographical location... I don't really pay attention to those forms.

I take your opinion. I am the bigger person. I don't know many Americans that support Your royal family and I know a lot of people. I neither like them or dislike them. Same with Spain and other monarquies. If my opinion hurts you I am sorry. It seems that you are to tight with then royals. You must hang out with them.
Take the chip of your shoulders .
As far as war and other things. I have lost friends too and never supported the invasion. My family serves our country.
If you don't like Louisiana that's fine with me. We have warm summers and mild winters while you have cold cold cold and cold.
I'd rather be at 100 degrees with a/c than being on a bad mood because outside is cold ( what we call cold here 60s 70s) in the middle of August.
I am glad that most people from your land are nothing like yoi( I have been there many times) you just like to start trouble. You can go ahead and start it with me if you want. But you are brave behind a keyboard.... I am brave face to face like most of my country people...
Finally and once again... Your country has beautiful people...it s up to you if you want to be included on that list or in the list of the losers who can't aim for nothing in life, has not achieved anything or ever will because they are undesirables .
I have been reading your posts and my opinions is that you are a trouble maker.
Honestly I someone had not met a real british person before and they met you they would probably despise your land.
Just some cool advice ... Enjoy life by being positive and constructive.

l think that hes a countryboy who can be quite witty sometimes.
Hes a Royalist, obviously. A lot of us are, but not all. That is no crime.
He comes across to me as quite a likable person.
Maybe Mr briton was trying to convey to you, that as we are supporting your imperialistic adventures in Afghanistan & elsewhere, then maybe a little support should be forthcoming on our position in the Falklands.
Finally, we have no quarrel with you. Our problem is Argentina.
Hopefully that will cure itself as they implode shortly as mismanagement, corruption & incompetence take their toll.
l, also have travelled extensively in your country.
l haven't been to every state but, of what l've seen, l like Wyoming the best.

You are the one with a sick mind....LO PASADO IS PISADO....You don't have to suffer “problems” with ARGENTINA.... UK PM DAVID CAMERON can end your 'PROBLEMS WITH ARGENTINA' ..TERMINATING THE UK DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH ARGENTINA....As an argentine citizen I SPEAK FOR MYSELF and I repeat my country ARGENTINA does not need nothing from the UK....What DAVID CAMERON is waiting for? Can you understand the words ENOUGH IS ENOUGH..

totally agree. terminate the imports of all UK goods to argentina...we don't need them. You will probably childishly retaliate and ban Argentine goods....your loss.

Who understand you vieja sarnosa?..Argentinians have survived primitive years eating fish and vegetables, argentinians like me knows austerity. You keep saying having “problems” with Argentina...what a stupid sueca!
Your comments are worthless...the islands dispute is ignored by majority ....what you and briton have to say then...

    @ 73 Isolde (#) @74 briton
You and briton started the hate insulting the argentine leader with unacceptable words thru this web site. All of you have created hate and hate leads to crime.. In my case, wishing to kill both of you is a natural reaction to defend my argentine leader because you have failed to properly approach to her in a civilized manner....If you have some “problems” with Argentina like you said, the proper way of communication is requesting a meeting with the argentine female leader....Rather than to do this, you and briton cover your identities saying both of you are VIP...and because of being such VIP will continue hiding your identity to degrade the argentine leader....that is cowardy...
Your defensive tactic saying I “don't love myself” is simple absurd! Like the argentine leader, I am a perfect beauty always looking the best.
If you and briton care about the islands and islanders do something positive for them such as bringning more economic development for the islanders to became independent from argentine ports.
It takes my attention that during all these years the islanders wants to use the argentine ports to gain...Like I previously said, the islanders wants “ la chancha y los veintes” This time the islanders can have “la chancha” pero “los veintes” tendran de conserguirlos de los puertos de Chile, si los pueden conseguir..

Lays on her back, and looks at the sky,
She likes to drink wheezy , opens her legs easy
And dreams offer Hugh and cry .

Are we not so kind to you,
[no] ho dear, buy hey sussie, it’s the thought that counts,
    And we thought about it,
So please, be kind, be polite, be nice , be normal ,
Love the British, long live the nice British,

See, and all your jealousy and envy just evaporates.
Sit down, and have a nice cuppa,

    @75SussieUS,
    You got that right.
No, l don't like your demented leader CFK.
She wants to steal our land.
The Falklands have NEVER been Argentine & NEVER will be.
l couldn't care less about Argentina, or the mess its becoming.
The Argentines have made that mess all by themselves.
As for you wanting to kill both me & briton, well l just laughed that off.
People have tried to kill me before, but its obviously not my time to go yet!
How do you know that you are a perfect beauty?
Different cultures have different standards & self-praise is no recommendation.
We are doing “something” for the lslands & l agree, l don't want to use Argentine ports.
Argentina could have shared in the oil profits, BUT your now dead dear president, Nestor, tore up the agreements.
So now Argentina gets nothing from our oil.
No, SussieUS, we don't need you at all & we don't want you.
    We are happy without Argentina.
