In a strong speech claiming sovereignty over the Falklands/Malvinas issue addressing the UN Decolonization Committee, Argentine president Cristina Fernandez called on the UK “to leave this history of colonialism behind and start building a new history based on dialogue” but at the same time blasted the recent announcement of a referendum in the Islands do decide on their political status. What a speech, incredibly funny.

My favourite bit was her talking about geography and because the birds in the region don't fly over London its obvious the islands belong to Argentina.

As ever strewn by lies, half truths and more nonsense.

And as ever she doesn't recognize the people who have been living there for nearly 200 years which is why we know she was obviously joking about being a leader in human rights. We are a leader in human rights (when it suits us) and it doesn't suit us to recognize the human rights of the people of the Falkland's Island (because thats obviously inconvenient) nor does she recognize the most important right in the UN chapter of self determination.

As ever more selective nonsense and lies from the queen of corruption! Haha!

I like the point being made by most of the tv news channels that I have seen this on that the Argentine delegation of 90 people swamped the UN setup and comprised well over a third of the entire number of people in the room.
Typical Mafia tactics ;crowd out the room with lots of 'heavies'.
The Falklanders should have brought some pots and pans to remind the queen bee of her troubles closer to home.

Part one of my breakdown of her speech:

“We are not asking them to acknowledge that the Malvinas Islands belong to Argentina.” – So what is the purpose to sit down and talk?? oh and the falklands were refused, so!!!!!

“it was the dictatorship who decided to unilaterally begin the Malvinas War without asking Argentines for their opinion”
Perhaps True, but bit late now to start making excuses

and added that she did not stand there alone, - Errmmm I remember quite a few Rg academics who disagree

“but even so they believe that colonialism and the defence of sovereignty supersedes that” – I actual don’t believe this to be true. I believe other items of government must be more important……she is basically suggesting RG population take second place to her fight for Falklands

“I’m here to ask for the humanitarian right. Our country is a human rights champion. Few nations have the kind of immigration freedom that we have. Few nations open their doors to citizens from all over the world like we do” - don’t anderstand the point being made…guess trying to make RG’s look all kind and lovely????!!!Again, not relevant to the aguement at hand!

“war veterans and mothers war veterans who still haven’t been able to recover the remains of their sons and daughters.” – no one has ever impeded the recovery, if it is so desired! Again irrelevant, and using other peoples grief to pump herself up!

“when it comes to conducting a referendum, why don’t we have one in Afghanistan or Iraq and see what the people think about what they are doing there?” – (that one was for the Syrian representative) There is no comparison between the falklands and the middle eastern countries she lists.

“When I saw the waving flag of the so-called ‘Falkland Islands’ I was ashamed, because wars are never cause for celebration or commemoration” - ermmm, Monday, April 2nd 2012 - Cristina Fernandez leads main Malvinas war commemoration in Ushuaia

    Part twol

“The UK is benefiting from its privileged position as a permanent member of the security council of the United Nations,” - a bit bitchy, and she does not illustrate how!

Falklands is not a “bilateral issue”, but multilateral - Ok so need to sit down and talk with you then, better get every country in the world involved ….daft comment, and misleading as I cant see a huge amount of countries even running an article on the issues

“how can the UK call the Malvinas British territory when it is 14.000 kilometres away from London?” – Distance has no baring on the argument! If distance has anything to do with it then where do you stop! Does Cuba become American because its close? Greenland is Danish but should be Canadian, blah blah blah…oh French Guinea

“This means the UK admitted there was a sovereignty” – No it doesn’t and she is being a tad selective about her History, anyway that was messed-up by the Coup. Unfortunate, but now everyone is having to live with it! RG’s fault none elses!!

“why we are requesting a resumption of the interrupted negotiations”, so do blockades really help get people to discuss??? Turning down a falklands request to have a chat helps everyone think RG’s are lovely people (humanitarian hehe).

@11 I know, it's been a while since I've watched someone try to present Hitler's Generalplan Ost to a sub-sub-sub-committee of the UN. I'm surprised that Brazil were on board with this, but then again Brazil seems to not really have much of a clue.

@12 They were subject to acceptance by the Falkland Islanders then, and they are still now.

You: “Can't the Argies ever tell the whole truth ??”

This UN Committee should be disbanded. Its expensive, ineffective and horrendously biased. How can a decolonisation committee cheer on a rogue state attempting to colonise a member states territory. Outrageous.

Well done those Falkland Islanders for presenting a clear and concise case. They behaved with dignity and courage. As for Kirchner, her rambling and overly emotional speech was badly conceived and littered with errors.

Mr Cameron's response was correct, to the point and sufficiently forceful.

Now someone correct me if I am wrong. The UN was created at the end of a catastrophic war. The victorious nations in that war formed the Security Council, the council has the last voice on UN actions. Nations were invited to join the UN knowing the rules of the organisation, Argentina was one of them. Now that things do not go there way or will not go there way, she criticises those rules.

The Argentines attempts to bully the UN will backfire because at long last the Falkland Islanders have found their voice. It's the beginning of the end for this Argentine voice. When they find they can't stop the wheels spinning in the bog, they'll launch an attack on the oil rigs.
And will pay the price for doing so.

@17: the council was set up as a necessary check and balance against each other i.e. they thought that between the ideologies involved the only passed resolutions would be those on which all agreed, hopefully the most moral ones and where no one party had a particularly vested interested other than the good of humanity. The council clearly split in two after about 1949 as China and the then USSR on one side and the Western Allies of France, the USA and the UK on the other. This has meant that basically no decent moral stand has been made on anything since it's formation and nearly every war since then has been with the council split along those exact same lines. Argentina knows this is the case and survives by playing one side off against the other, as it always has done.

Vernet was not in the Falklands when the British arrived in January 1833; he had left more than a year earlier, on one of the American ships, the Harriet, which he had captured. And the genuine civilians who were still there in January 1833 were not expelled by the British - only the recently arrived garrison was. Vernet and his family left in November 1831 on the Harriet, thus provoking the raid by the USS Lexington a few weeks later. The Americans on that ship persuaded all Vernet's European settlers, and all but three of his black slaves, to leave - about 40 people. But these were not forced to go. The Lexington also took as prisoners seven more men who had been involved in the seizure of the American ships. So it was the Americans that removed most of the “population”, not the British. Neither the Americans nor the British forced the 25 to 30 gauchos to leave. The British were in fact keen that they should stay. Captain Onslow of HMS Clio, which reasserted our sovereignty in January 1833, had orders were not to molest civilians, and he wanted the gauchos to stay and continue hunting the wild cattle so fresh beef would continue to be available for visiting ships.

Abject failure for Collagen Kirchner as the world's media largely ignore her pathetic whining and then rubs salt in her wounds by almost unanimously reporting on the Falklands by their proper name ... not whatever fairytale Spanish name it is she uses.

Just wondered if this was the reason she keep disappearing .

Do Swallows fly to UK from South Africa any bird watchers? I would just like to know which African country can now claim sovereignity over the UK.

Oh! if only I could talk to her, I would give her strong words of advice, “Immodium love, try immodium.”

Now, would that be the African or the European swallow?

How about hiding industrial strength laxative inside the Immodium capsules? Drowning in her own crap seems like a very appropriate way for her to go.

@68 No, she's not “a disgrace to freedom and democracy”. She doesn't even know what those words mean.
@72 I don't think you can take that line. As I read it, only some European and North American species of swallows are migratory. West and South African species are non-migratory. Surely this justifies Europeans and North Americans going to parts of Africa and claiming sovereignty!
@73 Oh good, an unauthorised incursion into UK airspace. Quick Reaction Alert Typhoons are on standby. We could use the AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles so we wouldn't even have to see him.

@74 I guess I mean the African one. But as there are European swallows as well, that presents more problems of sovereignity according to the Kirchener migrating bird sovereignity theory (backed up by the C24).
Does the fact that the swallows nest in UK mean that we claim sovereignity over the countries they fly back to or are the fledglings an implanted population?

Life was so much easier with self-determination.

@73 The mental picture of that eggheaded weasel trying to even take off has me lolllliing.
Would the feathers glued on be donated from birds from every member of the C24 and OAS?
And as Argentina can't run a piss up in a pub would the feathers last 8000 miles?

To add a somewhat scientific turn to the thread; one of the phalarope familly, I can't remember which it is, migrates from Canada (maybe Saskatchewan) to Patagonia and the Falkland Islands.

Does this mean that Canada can claim Ptagonia and the Falklands by the Kirchner migratory birds thesis in international law?

73 Britninja (#). You've had me pissing with laughter with your comments and I just love the bird migration theories. I still don't understand what these idiots want to debate; they can't debate what's in their Constitution.

I am coming late to the 'debate'; maybe it's already been covered, but Christina Fernandez's arguments seem pretty illogical to me:
—“How can Britain make a 'colonialist' claim over the Falklands when Argentina is so much closer?” —Hello! The history of several nation's colonies, shows plainly that distance is not a factor.
—Britain's stance is not 'colonial, and has nothing to do with its status in the UN, it is defending a UN charter that affords the right of “Self Determination”—which is a 'human right' that she says Argentina is a champion of.
—“Few nations have the kind of immigration freedom that we have.” Yes, because Argentina is short on brainpower for the 21st, century; but when it comes to taking a flight out, even for a holiday' you have to fill in a long form about what the hell you think you're up to. You're sniffed by dogs trained to bark at dollars in your wallet, to maybe buy a summer shirt in Florida, or open an account wherever a citizen, who's human rights are respected, should be able to (OK, not for tax avoidance like government ministers do).
—“...since she had the support of most Argentine political parties with congressional representation.” That's because, for now, Fernandez is acting like a Chaves type 'Democratic Dictator“, using power and threats to get her way.
Almost all Argentinians I speak to say, ”We're not interested in the whole thing, what the hell do we want with rule over three thousand beer totting Brits we can't understand, and three thousand sheep a horny shepherd wouldn't even drop his muddy draws for. Anyway, we've got enough troubles with Fernandez's policies taking our economy into an abyss.”
This incessant idiotic necessity of governments, religious sects etc. to kill, maim and ruin the lives of countless innocents to feed a false sense of 'honor', or in the name of self created Gods, just proves how humanity is hopeless at evolving in pursuit of happiness and harmonious coexistence. Simple only in theory!
