    @2 and 3
    You might be looking at China through suspicious/paranoid Western glasses.

    If there is any derriere kissing it will be done by the Chinese.
    China and South America need each other, but their need of us is much more acute, than vice versa.

    We give them many of the raw materials they need to keep their industry running.
    They sell us cheap tat, plastic toys and cars that fall apart in a year.

    I imagine Mr Wen will attempt to get Argentina to lower import restrictions, but will have to put something on the table..I don’t know, missile technology, investment in YPF, who knows?
    In Chile there is not much to talk about other than copper prices.
    None of the countries to be visited are indebted so they can’t come here and wave their wonga around.

    In fact when Mr Wen goes to Europe that is when his arse gets kissed: “..please please buy up the PIGS debit your Asiatic Excellency”.
    Have a look at the table at the bottom of this BBC article:

    Perhaps Chile needs China, as it lacks an indigenous industry. But the Chinese influence on Brazil is negative -- it destroys BR manufacturing and its demand for commodities has done nothing to quell the current account deficit.
