Hahaha I love this attitude. How about you make products people in the US want to buy?

#3 Why don't the Americans want to buy what Argentina does produce, agriculturally and otherwise? Is it perhaps because they want to punish a leftist democracy??

    @4 BK

Obama is a leftist President (as close as you'll get in the US). Why should the USA buy Argentine produce, when they can get the same products elsewhere, cheaper and without any of the hassle that CFKs government has put in the way of trade.

Remember, it's Argentina that has unilaterally put trade blocks in place, not the US, so the US have stopped buying their goods. What did CFK and her crazy government think would happen?

If this continues, more and more countries will turn away from Argentina and use other sources. I bet Chile, Uruguay, Peru and Brazil are having a good laugh at Argentina right now.

    BK, you're badly stretching.

America doesn't care at all about Argentina nor its government with the one exception which is the billions the Argentine people/government still owe America.

Either this article is poorly written or the Ambassador is a boob. Not sure which probably the latter.

Do you think the US Prez promised to increase trade then eliminated trade preferences? I think Arguello needs better translation software. Also US Prez doesn't buy anything businesses do. What a complete idiot this guy is.

USA has not restricted trade with Argentina, they don't have anything we want or need. They are liars and unreliable trading partners.

The last meeting the Arg Embassy had here for US Businessmen LITERALLY no one showed up so after an hour the RGs called it quits and went shopping.

It is apparent to me that the USA will let Argentina stew in it own mess as an example of a rogue state. We will postpone any further loans from IDB, WB, US IMPORT EXPORT Bank, etc and then try to deal with the next Prez. Hopefully the next one is not a hysterical, bi-polar not job who hires incompetent foolish yes men.

    9. I don't think he can get a meeting at US State ( maybe a flunky), they pretty much blacklisted Argentina after Timmerman boarded our Military jet. I don't see it turning around until Arg gets a new Prez.

This week should be interesting SCOTUS is ruling on the BRCA reserves being attachable and confiscated for payment.

@4 The US has many rules in place for goods that can be imported. Agriculturally, it is certain that argieland breaches many of those rules. As an example, many argie agricultural goods can't be imported into Europe because it regularly uses drugs and other biochemicals both on livestock and plantlife. US rules are generally stricter than those of Europe. Thus, the US had a ban on meat and meat products for travellers long before Europe imposed the same ban. The problem is that argieland thinks it can “demand” things. I seem to recall that, the last time the negotiations between the EU and mercosur was reported here, argieland was “demanding” greater access to the EU's agricultural sector. Anybody with any intelligence would say to themselves ”The EU doesn't want to import any of our (choose a product) while we use (choose a bio agent). So we'll stop using it.“ But the argies are pretty short on intelligence. Time after time, we watch argie actions and think ”A five-year old would know better than to do that.” But they go ahead and do it anyway!

    12. Yeah those stupid lemons CFK keeps yapping about have some sort of poison fungicide on them that we don't allow here.

I think the wineries must be screaming their heads off right about now. Brazil and China can't (or won't) pick up the slack from lost USA EU trade.

Yup, those Argtards and Malvinista's are always bleating on that Argentina doesn't need the US and EU 'cos they can always trade with China and India.

Of course, China and India have the luxury of looking around for produce, and as Argentina gets more desperate, they'll have to try and sell for less (so less profits), or not sell at all.

After all, China and India can get their produce from Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, African countries, the EU, the USA etc...

Yes, CFKs great stategy is to back Argentina into a corner, and hope that China is nice to them.

Argentina has a 8 billion USD trade deficit with China and a 3 billion dollar trade deficit with the US mostly due oil field equipment and Auto parts that Argentina uses to assemble cars to sell domestically and export. The US is the largest purchaser of Argentina wines, the opportunity to export agricultural products to the us is limited to fruits and vegetables because the US already produces more corn, wheat, soybeans, maize etc than it can use. Chilie, Mexico, Ecudor all have trade surplusess with the US because they can compete with domestic suppliers on cost

Even if they had something to sell that wasn't poisoned with chemicals (and some people won't buy genetically modified produce (the RG's Soya is GM)., they would still go yapping on about 'on condition that you support us over the Falklands'
The RG protectionism will backfire as they don't understand global economics (or the trustworthiness that paying back borrowed money results in).

Even if, and it's a BIG if, the US wanted to trade with Argentina, once they tried any manufactured goods that would be the end of that.

Here in Uruguay we are lumbered with the Argie crap, and CRAP it is. Why they manage to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory so much is beyond me. For just a little more effort and careful design they could make acceptable products but I suppose that would be more work than they want to do.

A classic example. A well known name supplier of mops and cleaning brushes, etc. sell their products into Uruguay and are represented by Devoto in particular. I bought a floor 'blade' (like a big wiper blade to push water away) and the matching, screw-on handle - got home, tried to use the thing a few days later only to find the the screw-on handle had a differnt size of thread to the blade! Went back to Devoto only to find that none of the handles the company had supplied fitted ANY of the heads.

But, being British, it was no doubt my fault!
