Jun 26th, 2012 - 07:13 am - Link - Report abuse 0If not then Argentina must be seen as a rouge state given China and Russia are rather famous for raping countries for resources and getting deals that are severely in their favour hence the western worlds reluctance to enter these types of deals with them even if trade is high.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out and purely as devils advocate surely Argentina would be better to seek investment from SA if it doesn't want to work with western companies or they don't want to work with it. Although I guess only the largest countries/companies can put up in excess of 35bn.

It will make it soooo much easier when argieland defaults and the Chinese start wandering around saying, “We'll take that....and that....and that. Never mind. We'll take it all and let you know what we'll allow you to use.”
The Chinese are very smart with the foreign investments they make. When they loan money directly to countries like Argentina that want to avoid “the markets” or the development banks, they usually tie it to a specific infrastructure, or service or commodity that involves chineses companies completing the work sometimes with imported chinese labor.

I spent 10 years in Argentina and have been saying this for years.
Here's the breakdown.
Argentina has lots of what the world needs. Soya, Copper, Water, Location*, and, lots and lots of Empty Space (ya know, Land!).
They also have lots of corrupt politicians willing to sell their soul to even the lowest bidder, an equally corrupt and clueless body politic, and no military to defend either one.
Then, you have China, India, Russia, Western Europe, and North America.
Al of whom need what Argentina has......
Let me ask the Argentinian readers here a qusetion.

The Chinese will up their food imports, hence giving the Argentina the chance to narrow the deficit.
China will also be investing in the RG rail network – more dollars coming in, better infrastructure.
Many seem to forget that China has big problems of its own. They don’t come here (SAmerica) to dictate terms. They need to negotiate these kinds of deals on food to keep their own inflation under control. It is a bilateral win-win.
I wouldn’t be surprised if China invested in YPF or went in to some kind of a venture. China is expert at dealing in “risky” environs, just look at their massive investments in Africa.
I know that TTT won’t like the idea of Chinese investment but you can’t please everyone.

Falkland Oil raised 48.5 million pounds ($76 million) in January and is fully funded for the two wells it plans this year targeting more than 4 billion barrels of reserves. The deal sees French utility firm EDF enter the Falklands.
Via Edison International – a company in which it owns a controlling stake – EDF will pay FOGL’s back-costs in the region of US$50 million and it will pay its own share of the costs for the upcoming drill programme. A US$3 million option fee had already been paid to FOGL.
Also Edison will pay FOGL an additional US$40 million in cash – with US$20 million being paid on completion of the farm-out and US$20 million due next year.

I am argentine. I think China is the second economy of the world and they grow so fast because of their tradings. I don't believe CFK is doing well as a president, but is doing better than Obama, who is destroying USA inflating the economy and generating a globe which is going to explote possibly next year. You are watching and economy ilussion right now, the problem wasn't solved, so the problem will be incremented. I guess Romney will make a much better job than Obama (not the best).

Your Dear Leader has already tried begging Brazil, Chile, Venezula and Peru to help her, and it's got her nowhere, just humiliated Argentina on the world stage.
Why should they send their young men to war against the British? Just what is in it for them? If they ever did, and you did somehow invade the Falklands, why should the countries you have mentioned give them to Argentina? After all they would've been the ones to sacrifice their people for them, so they should get the spoils.
None of the countries you mention would risk what amounts to an all out attack on a NATO member. Remember that the UK could invoke article 5 of the NATO charter, and the other members would come to our assistance, as they would see this 'hypothetical' union of South American nations attacking one of their members as unfair and dashed unsporting.
If Argentina wants the islands then man up and try to take them from the British, one country against another. Don't be cowards and hide behind Brazil, Peru and Venezula.
But don't expect a happy ending, just expect even more humiliation like you suffered in 1982.
Next year the legal owners of the Faklands will hold a referendum under the auspices of the UN. Once that result is known, they should then lobby the UN to remove them from the decolonisation list, as they will have met one of the options listed by the UN.
Argentina will then be told by the international community to STFU, and stop trying to steal land that doesn't belong to you. I also foresee that in the not too distant future, the Falkland Islands will become completely independent, and become the newest member of the UN.
And all Argentina can do against international law is stand by impotently and cry.
Here's a hint for Argentina. Stop looking at the past, look to the future, maybe then, one day, the world will start taking you seriously.
The Islands are southamericans, not British. That's the reason why we beg for help to southamerican countries. We are not prepared for a war right now.

They are British not because the British took them in 1833, but because the people that live on them VOTED to be British.
There are a large majority of voters who wish to be British because we, during the 150 years of unimpeded immigration to the Islands DID NOT GO THERE.
We lost our opportunity to rig the vote. In other words we f**ked up again as we usually do.
We cannot blame the Brits, the Yanks, the French or anybody else, it is all our own fault, and we have to live with it.

Argentina shall never gain the Falkland Islands. They will either remain a British Overseas Territory or become completely independent. Argentina burnt all it's bridges when you invaded in 1982, terrorised the population, showed complete disregard for human life by randomly scattering land mines and not marking their position (which is against international law), and when you finally realised you were losing the war your brave soldiers booby-trapped the school desks with explosives.
And don't say it was the 'Junta' because we all remember the cheering crowds in the Plaza de Mayo on 02 April 1982. We also remember the crowds in the Plaza de Mayo on and after the 14 June 1982, calling your soldiers cowards and demanding that they return and fight to the death.
Why should the Islanders ever have ANYTHING to do with a country that has done that to them, and refuses to acknowledge that what it did was wrong?
Argentina can keep on crying and BEGGING but no one if any import is listening to you. But don't worry you still have your friends: Angola, Syria, Iran, Venezula, China; those paragons of human rights and virtues.
And the UK is a paragon of human rights? Chagossians, Iraqis, Blair, you know the story. I'd much rather be Iranian or Chinese than Britard.

Wrong. The Falkland Islands are in the South Atlantic, Argentina is in South America.
Mercosur WAS a trading bloque, therefore has no competence over the legality of national flags. I say Mercosur was a trading bloque because as from yesterday it ceased to have any relevance in world trade.
