Yes, it is good to see two regional neighbours co-operating. Let's see if it will happen between Argentina and the Falklands. CFK has offered to co-operate in air links and fisheries. The Falklands government have accepted the offer to talk but it's been all quiet ever since. Maybe CFK has bigger problems to worry about at present but our offer is on the table.

    1 BK

What's your view on the Argentine super-inflation situation? Is it nothing but a lie or has CFK devised some new form or economic best-practice that the world's mere mortal economists can't even understand?

...... And Chavez has got more important things to think about too:

    http://www.diplomaticourier.com/news/latin-america/370

Surely the name of the game is to defend when you need to. Neither Argentina nor Venezuela is under any credible threat from anybody. Although I do notice they do an awful lot of threatening. All those shiny new toys Chavez has bought are not to defend Venezuela but to use as a big stick to cow neighbours into submission. This is what KFC aspires to.

It will not scare the UK in the slightest. Should they both attack the Falklands at the same time British military technology can more than handle the pair of them.

Yes I think it will be an alliance to intimidate it neighbours.

I cannot see Brazil joining them though, they are doing very well with the USA/UK/Europe, they would not want to be seen as part of the Chavez/Fernandez group.

Also if the Republicans get into Government in the USA shortly, I can see the USA becoming confrontational with Chavez & Fernandez.

It's be worried if I were Paraguay or Uruguay. Chavez and the 'Dear Leader' in Argentina are desperate for conquests.

They'll start by liberating Paraguay from it's constitutional right to impeach their own President and reinstall Lugo as a puppet leader, then they'll turn their greedy eyes to Liberating Uruguay from the burden of democracy.

Yup, this Alliance is about unifying South America under a Venezulan/Argentine dictatorship.

    Hello Everyone,

    Keep calm, Mr Mannering!

This agreement will enjoy the customary, Lat. Am., ephemeral longevity of a fruit fly. That’s to say, it’ll last just until the inevitable, first falling-out between its pseudo-Fascist progenitors!

Remember that when these jerks talk of “Maintaining peace in the region”, they REALLY mean the perpetuation of their own dictatorial grip over their respective countries

How on earth do so many otherwise SENTIENT South Americans fall for such empty, vainglorious, rhetorical rubbish? Perhaps they don’t but are simply too scared to voice their true opinions. Or maybe –like yours truly– they’re just completely fed up by years’ of listening to so many shameless, incorrigible megalomaniacs utter so much vacuous bullshit!

    Jim, in Madrid.

Argentina used to have the best beef in the world, but since Nestor and Cristina Kirchner have been in power, the beef industry has been completely destroyed. Nobody should eat the poor quality and polluted beef, it's not fit for human consumption. Argentine beef loaded with hormones, drugs and chemicals that have been outlawed in the USA and Europe and they have been known to ship rotten beef for export after it's been washed with bleach and ammonia, injected with formaldehyde and red food coloring.
Lemons from Argentina are sprayed with toxic and dangerous chemicals that cause cancer and nerve damage and injected with artificial yellow coloring because the soil in Argentina is so depleted of minerals in that the lemons grow white on the trees and have no flavor.
Industrial products such as tools, automobiles, machinery and appliances from Argentina are the worst and poorest quality in the world. Even the chinese won't buy them. There is no industrial standard, they use the lowest quality raw materials and no testing is done before they are shipped. This has caused people to be injured by unsafe products, many people have been electrocuted by Argentine washing machines and hot water heaters that leave the factory with short circuits.
All countries should completely avoid ALL Argentine products permanently.
Article about Argentina signing a military cooperation agreement with Venezuela, these people are looking to start a war.

Did you hear about the new “militant” movement that Kirchners are starting that will make “La Cámpora” look like a group of kids in nursery school? It's called “Vatayon”, it's a Kirchner backed group that goes into the prisons of Argentina to recruit supporters for their political movement.

We should not forget that, in 2006, Venezuela bought 24 Su-30MK multirole combat aircraft from Russia. To go with its 20 F-16s. These could no doubt fly alongside argieland's 63 Daggers, Fightinghawks and Mirages. By comparison, the RAF only has 217 Tornados and Typhoons. 93 Typhoons yet to be delivered. At sea, the Venezuelan and argie navies can field their combined 10 frigates, 13 corvettes and 5 submarines (diesel-electric) against the Royal Navy's 6 destroyers, 13 frigates and 8 submarines (nuclear-powered). Worrying. THE Navy might only be able to sink half an enemy ship each! Might have to send a couple of carriers as well. The ones euphemistically called “helicopter carriers”. Only got 4 of those. Does anybody know whether it's against “the rules” to sink something so that it lands on top of something you sank 30 years ago?

Oh yes? At this rate you will have two regions, Argentina and Venezuela who do not share a land border. This is because most of the rest seem very reluctant to join your new country and even then a) neither Argentina nor Venezuela will be leading it because afterall, who would give an alcoholic the keys to the drinks cabinet? And in any case b) You, quite wisely I feel, still won't live there.

I think it won't hurt to remind the Malvinistas again. You are going to have to fight your own battles.

Brazil & Uruquay will not get involved with Fernandez & Chavez, they have too much sense, they know they would be on a loser their relations with USA EU UK are good, why mess up something good for a pair of head cases. The chances are a Republican President will be elected shortly, why piss off America. In saying that if their is going to be military action against the Falklands Argentina wil be on its own, as Chavez in the end will not go along with Argentina, it's just hot air saying he will fight Britain. Argentina will lose if they undertake military action.

No matter what quality of Chav's aircraft are (F16s and SU30s) that he sends to help Argentina, they will have to be based in Southern Argentina to threaten the Falklands. It doesn't even matter if Argentina has the most up to date Chinese fighters, as none are any good if the runways in Southern Argentina are destroyed by retaliatory strikes.

And if there is a combined naval operation against the Falklands by South American countries, to avoid their ships being zapped in port, they are unlikely to be based in Southern Argentina. Therefore even though the South American countries would be closer than the UK they would be operating at long range from their own countries (ie any north of BA would be over 1000 miles from the FI).

Wasps to a jampot from which they will not escape, and UK will not need to deploy an overly large fleet of ships or aircraft. Whilst UK could retaliate directly against 'citizen Chav' it would be easier to sit around the FI wait, and zap as the targets appear at the end of their long journey.

@24 Haven't noticed us making any threats for the time being. Besides WE don't make threats. They'll be PROMISES. Now what sort of sh*te talks about beheading people. But by all means fly to South America P*rat. Might as well have all the sh*te in one place. What's your “wrath” like? Is that wiggling your tushy? Who's going to shoot this sc*m? CFK says she doesn't like or agree with violence. What will she do when an intending murderer arrives?

In the meantime, we still have those big cylindrical things that can be launched from a range of 7,000 miles. Those little things at the top that go bang? Only between 7 and 32 times the one that went bang over Hiroshima.

So. P*rat, when you set off for south america, you need to hope that none of your pals have upset us too much. Otherwise, there may be nowhere for you to land. Jajajajajajajajajaja !!!!!!!

I do believe Chavez is actually retarded enough to co-operate in aggressive military action with KFC. For his sake I hope he has advisors with IQs above double figures who might understand the consequences of such action, and will talk to him. Otherwise it's goodnight Sr. Chavez, it was interesting knowing you :D

You know we have heard this all before and despite it, Britain has prevailed in the vast majority of the conflicts she has fought in, The falklands war was no exception everyone form, UK Mp's to the USSR and the US said that Britain would lose and yet we won. Britain has been involved in more conflicts then anyone else in history and yet for some reason we are still here and our interests still satand so obviously we are doing something right when we fight, Argentine on the other hand has been involved in next to nothing in terms of conflict, and when it came to the Falklands you couldn't capture and hold a set of islands right on your door step from an enemy 8000 miles from home while you had more troops, aircraft and logistics, so who's the loser here? Many have tried to take on Britain and most have failed, many have tried to invade Britain and all have failed.

In fact the Argentine military was so pathetic it spent more time killing its own people then the enemy!

Oh and as for Skirts? The Kilt was worn by soldiers during WW1 that were so feared that the Germans called them the ladies from hell. I mean what would you rather have a man wearing a kilt or a conscript who's only real military experience was throwing a nun out of a helicopter at 5,000 feet?

@31 Glad you see it that way. Glad to behead you. Eventually. We should start from the lower extremities. First we'll take both feet. Then both legs. Then both hands. Then both arms. Then the “tackle”. Although this can be hard to find on a latino. And finally, the head. Making sure that said latino is face up so it can see the blade come down. I want to do it!! Make sure you hang on to your beliefs. The only Brits that “wear skirts” are Scots. But they're not the only ones that can shove a bayonet down your throat and another one up your a*se at the same time. I do think it's a mistake to send Gurkhas down south. Lopping latino heads off with one sweep seems so.......quick. Shall I pass your comments on to a few Scots squaddies, P*rat? I'm sure they'd like to meet you. If you dared get within 5,000 miles. Scots like people like you. They write your comments on a piece of paper and balance the paper on the end of a bayonet. Then they ram it home. So that you can “eat your words”. Don't know what they call it if they ram the bayonet up your a*se. Hope you're looking forward to it. I am!

We don't scare easy, we have beaten most countries in the world before (and had a kicking a few times) but as the Rgs found out we are difficult to beat on the battlefield. I await a troll to surf the web and list battles we have lost, but hey the important one was the Falklands and boy we whopped your ass

I note your comments about effeminate Scottish soldiers wearing kilts.
The Roman legions, the Greek Hoplites and the Zulu warriors wore types of skirts. Were they effeminate girlies ?
I could go on for pages trying to explain how this came about but you would need a brain - which in your case is sadly lacking- to comprehend this. As to the fighting qualities of the Scottish regiments, do some research. The results may not fit in with your concepts.
If I am correct, the last time your troops met them was on Mt. Tumbledown. What was the result? Oh yes, your best soldiers, in a heavily defended position got pushed off at bayonet point and ran back to Stanley to save their souls. Probably, by now, Argentine history will show that they left because they were chivalrous and did not want to fight homosexuals in skirts. That's how you write you history, is it not ?
As an afterthought, the Ghurkas modeled their regimental traditions on those of the Highland Regiments as they recognised a warrior tradition they respected. I would not dare to insult Johnny Ghurka if I were you.
The Scots let your men go from Tumbledown. The Ghurkas would have sent their heads back in sacks.
Your mother must resemble Godzilla to be so formidable - this probably explains your attitude to life. As you are so homophobic it sounds as if you are possibly a latent homosexual. Having such a formidable mother may explain it. Don't be frightened - come out -it is not a hanging offence. I thought that CFK was allowing gay marriages ?

As a national stereotype, I looked up the Argentine Gaucho.
The pictures I saw were of men dressed in various costumes resembling women's clothes - some even looked like women's long knickers !
These were “men” who stayed out in the back country in groups, with no women. Sounds a bit like a bunch of gay boys to me.
Using your logic, they must be bunch of Homos. Why don't you go and tell a gaucho that he is an effeminate gay for the way he dresses !

Don't worry about pirat, he's just another retard running his mouth because he's too cowardly to join the Argentine armed forces and bring it to those nasty British...

The difference between the British and Argentinian's is when you upset the British you'll find them on your doorstep bringing the fight to you, when you upset Argentinians they run around for many years bitching and crying to anyone who will listen.

All talk, no action, bunch of cowards.

LOL, a bit harsh. The first gauchos in Argentina were Russian Jews driven out of Russia and if you look at their clothing you can see how is resembles some traditional Jewish clothing.

It is interesting that the Gaucho has become a symbol of tourism for Argentina when for so many years they were outcast. They didn't want to fight in the Patagonian wars for President Roca and were even less enthusiasstic about the genocide of the indigenous people. This labelled them as cowards and unpatriotic when really they just wanted to be alone with their horse, as it were.

When Argentina started to develop tourism the image of the gaucho was rehabilitated and used to define part of the Argentine history.

You can bid anything that Romans thought as you did now but that will change because no empire lasted for ever and the bigger they get the harder they fall. I would not brag about the gang thing the situation will soon change, all we need to do in Argentina is support our government to build a nuclear defense program, one way or another we will show the brits the way back home to UK.

Ha you don't have the money or the time or the expertise and most importantly your leaders don't have the will, stop with the wet dreams Mr Racist homophobic Hunter before you get upset when you wake up in reality. And even if you get nukes, your not going to use them on us because we will just use ours on you, and we have more and their larger.

Give up your claim to the islands, and worry more about your domestic affairs, as I recall a certain train crash killed a large number of people, were is the money that was promised for infrastructure improvement? Never mind nuclear programmes.

I seem to recall that in 1982, Argentina severely outnumbered the British, so that (not to mention the countless other examples) seems to debunk your whole “Britain can only gang fight” or something along the lines of the British need superior numbers.

As to Argentina having a nuclear weapons program, HA!

Then using the Roman analogy to say that Britain will now 'fall'? Hate to break it to you, but Britain no longer has it's empire, the areas (rightly so) are now independent and are experiencing self determination.

You have to wonder how old/distorted/non-existent history books are in Argentina. The British empire ceased to exist more than six decades ago. I guess as their government model of fascism is from the 1940's they are trapped in a time-warp.

It reminds me of the time a well-travelled Argentine friend said about her countrymen, “The problem is they don't know how backward they are”.

I would not get excited about Pakistan -India will sort them out.
We can sit quite happily on the sidelines,
Do you seriously think that Russia or Pakistan would supply you with nuclear weapons. You must be off your tiny mind. These are only for big boys to play with - not children.

Did you read my post at #62 ?
Scottish soldiers attack Argentinian marines on Tumbledown using bayonets. What is more man-to- man than this ? Your lot waited in fortified positions covering the area with heavy machine gun fire but were still forced off.
Again your lot attacked Stanley which was defended by a small company of Royal Marines against a much larger force equipped with heavy weapons. Who is it that fights in gangs? I am totally at a loss as who fought with us in the Falklands. Please explain. Also, why is your President desperate to get military support from Venezuela and other S.A. countries.
If the army is for homos then it follows that your countrymen in your armed forces are perverts, homos and child molesters. Have you relayed your feelings to your President or any of your national newspapers ?
Really, engage what little brain you have before posting any more rubbish. Try to think of something new to say. You are sounding like a record stuck in a groove.

Really Mr Hunter are you sure? I don't usually like insulting people however your jibes at race and homosexuality have pissed me off, so I will just say that there is nothing you can do to stop us. You don't have the experience or the no how of how to beat us, I mean you couldn't even kick us off a set of islands right on your doorstop in 1982. You had more planes that were faster and more manoeuvrable but you only shot down a few while we crippled your entire air force. You had the entire Argentine army to deploy to the islands while we could only deploy a much smaller force with borrowed civilian transports, our supply lines were 8000 miles long while yours were only a few hundred miles. And yet you still lost, badly to us.

“Anyways we support a nuclear defense program for latin America to avert illegal occupation and exploitation of our natural resources” You don't have the public support, money, expertise or will to start such a programme, shut up and sit down you pathetic indoctrinated fool. And the resources belong to the Falkland islanders who have lived on those islands since before Argentine was created.

“expropriation of british property and british interests in latin America. And the only jack I know is the jack ass from UK.” Who's this “we”? Major British business is in Argentine, if you attack it its the common man who loses services, jobs and wealth not us you stupid fool. Jack ass? I think you will find that you're the jack ass, nothing more then a homophobic fool who's had all this Malvinas crap drummed in at school- AKA Brainwashing. You are never going to get the islands, you have no military strength, no political strength, no true die hard support, you have no legal claims and no basis of argument. All of your governments efforts have failed and the Falklands are still British and Argentine is still a mess. Give up your pathetic claim, get on with your life.

Buenos Aires is the most openly gay-friendly city in Latin America. There are gay hotels, gay football championships, gay tango, a Gay Pride march (November) and an active gay nightlife and social scene. Elsewhere in Argentina, although there is a more conservative attitude towards homosexuality, gay travellers are warmly welcomed.

Only adolescents fantazise about fighting heroic wars, which they only know from stupid and romantic movies.

Those of us who have actually been there, know that you don't get killed by a nice bullet in the forehead or heart.

What really happens is that you loose an arm, a leg or a foot or two, have your bloody guts spilled on the ground or get burned to charcoal, and if they can say anything at all, the young soldiers' last word is “mummy”.

We also know that Bertrand Russell was absolutely right when he wrote “War is not about who is right, but about who is left”.

    Hello Everyone,

Re: Pirat Hunter and his ilk.

Perhaps the best way to treat these ‘offensive, intellectual miscreants’ would be to COMPLETELY IGNORE their childish tantrums and dispossess them of the satisfaction of feeling that they’re making themselves the centre of everyone’s’ attention. If no one AT ALL were to EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE their idiotic missives, perhaps it would remove their megalomaniac’s sense self-importance. And, what could they find worse than that?!!!

As has been already so rightly said by several ‘SANE’ contributors, this Thread has become a puerile slanging match, rather than logical discussion of the matter in hand. And I for one, am bored bloody rigid with wasting my time in trawling through reams of such stupid, infantile invective (PENNED BY PEOPLE HIDING BEHIND PSEUDONYMS) simply in order to be able to read the very few cogent comments that have been posted!

Do kindly at least TRY to ascertain the FACTS, before making further, gratuitous, unsubstantiated and erroneous allegations!

Also, it might be a good idea if you were to try to improve your manifestly incompetent command of the English language, before making such prescriptive pronouncements, in the future.

If you wish to be insufferably pedantic, note that according to the 2007 complete version of the Oxford English Dictionary, the word CRUSTAIAN does not exist.
However for your much-needed intellectual edification, these are some of the definitions that same dictionary gives for MUSSEL:

Forms: 1 muscelle, muscle, musle, mucxle, muxle, 4–6 muscule, 4–7 muskle, 4–9 muscle, 5 moscle, moscolle, moskyll, muschyl, muskele, muskyl, musselle, musshell, mustul, (pl. mwskollz), 5–6 muscul(l, muskyll(e, 5–7 muskel, 6 muskil, mussil(le, 7 (mistle), mussell, mustell, 8 muscel, 7– mussel.

[OE. muscle, etc., wk. fem., corresp. to MLG. mussel, MDu. mosscele (Du. mossel), OHG. muscula (MHG. muschele, mod.G. muschel), a. late L. muscula (also musla, whence F. moule), altered form of L. mūsculus dim. of mūs mouse.]

1.1 A bivalve mollusc belonging to either of the two families Mytilacea (Sea Mussels) and Unionacea (Fresh-water Mussels).

It will be very interesting to see if this 'defence' co-operation has (1) any effect on the diplomatic stance of either nation internal to S. America or (2) any longer-term effect on the relations of these two countries with those oversees.

'Defence' is a deception position. Striking first can be easily argued to be a 'defence' in and of itself!

I cannot bring myself to believe that colluding in any way with a country such as Venezuala is conducive to the long term interests of Argentina.

Sad comment about the depth and depravity of corruption in Venezuela in Francisco Toro's recent article in Foreign Policy (link below).

The victims are Venezuelans, many who truly believed in 1998 that voting for Hugo Chávez Frias would make their lives, and those of their children, a bit better.

For some, thats true - especially those who form the cadres of Chávez “Bolivarian” revolution guards - the Sturmtruppen activists in their red berets and red shirts.

For others, its all a huge disappointment. So-called efforts to fight corruption by Chávez haven't improved the Corruption Perception Index - its only 1.9/10 - even worse than Argentina's 3/10.
