Ecuador's Foreign minister said on Wednesday there will be no decision until after the Summer Olympics on the political exile request of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Read full article
I can't see why it is imprudent to make a decision before the Olympics - they are totally unrelated.
I can only assume the Ecuadorians are going to give him asylum and don't want their dignitaries and athletes to receive the flak.
It's all a bit pointless - if Assange wants to spend the rest of his life stuck in the Equadorian embassy then let him get on with it. Saves anyone else from the expense of imprisoning him.
You really have to be a Neanderthal misogynist of the most spectacularly order if you believe that there is anything inconsistent about holding a man to account for an alleged sexual assault. .. but, then again, that is the order of the day in most Latin countries.
I think they will give him asylum, it would seem to go against their nature not to. And yes it wouldn't hinder them at the Olympics if they handed him over to the Brits, so thats another hopeful sign!
Garzon is a disbarred lawyer in his home country. ... using illegal means to address corruption in the Franco era (.. for wiretapping jailed suspects and their lawyers in a corruption case. ... his attempt to investigate the crimes of late dictator Francisco Franco ..).
His 'worries' about fair trial are self-evidently realistic,
but does the man have *legal status* to represent and participate in international/multinational trials?
He gives a sh*t if he will be safe in Ecuador? It is not like he will ever make it there and the British can get their hands on him any time they like by simply withdrawing the Ecuadorian ambassador's credentials at the Palace of Court of St James .. and thereby also the diplomatic privilege of the Embassy.
Of course there are those clueless cretins who actually think that Ecuador have any say in Assange's ultimate fate, but they are as the criminal they defend (and yes, before you argue that Assange isn't a criminal, he is now a criminal in contempt of British courts).
This abboration of a man needs to be held accountable for his sexual perversions. Sweden is a highly credible country that is highly unlikely to make up these charges. And when you consider all of his suporters as a hacker turned there backs on his, lends credence to the likelihood of Assange being a skinner.
I hope he will be happy spending the rest of his life in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
lf ever l had to go to court, l wouldn't want you lot on the jury.
Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty.
All Sweden has to do, is promise that they won't send him to the USA.
Then, if he still refused to face court in Sweden, we would know that he had something to hide.
