Didn't the Soviets also take part in the action against Germany? What now, are you going to tell me that the Soviets, too, sided with freedom and democracy? European powers and the US were interested in curbing an aggressive rival power. They had security and strategic concerns, that's all. What's so bad in recognizing this? All countries are like this; practical concerns weigh on their decision-making than abstract principles like freedom or justice. I'm not saying it's only Britain. Jesus...

The little 1939 agreement that enabled “sphere's of influence” covering Romania, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland and enabled the Soviets to take half of Poland, part of eastern Finland and annexe Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bessarabia, Northern Bukovina and the Hertza region. Simple explanation. Hitler didn't want a two-front war. Once he thought he was ready, it was war to destroy the Soviets. Soviets wouldn't have known how to side with freedom and democracy, as witness their subsequent actions. But just a case of two greedy, power-mad dictators falling out over who got the biggest slice. The Soviet alliance with the free West was simply convenient for Stalin. Pity that we didn't know what we know now. We could have let the Nazis and the Soviets destroy each other. Just as a thought, there is a country in S. America that resembles Poland in the 1930s. Uruguay. Will CFK and Dilma agree to “divide” Uruguay? Or will the argies simply take it, with Brazilian consent. One thing is certain. When CFK and Dilma finally go to war, we should stay out and watch the destruction. Chavez will be waiting to pick up the pieces, and then we can finish him.

Those are facts, and give yourself a brake by prentending as if YOU where there during ww2. By the way, there is no harmony either in Europe. I personally hate the EU and that fascist organization should be burned.
Another history fact, Brazil did stood up and fought in ww2 against the nazis in Italy. So yes, Forgetit's nation did won some wars and did stood up for freedom, that's why they are a Republic.

I was “there” when the Luftwaffe bombed Glasgow. My father served in the RAF. My aunt was killed in an air raid. My uncle was killed in the Walcherns in 1945.. Another uncle was torpedoed twice while in the Merchant Navy - while this was going on , we really supported the Nazis ? Then the V1 and V2 dropping on SE England - a friendly act from a nation we supported ?
Holland invaded and occupied by their consent - Rotterdam and Amsterdam bombed and the subject to V1 attack later in the war.
Flooding the country and trying to starve the population in 1945.
You are seriously trying to tell me that this was an act from a country that Holland supported.
After every other country in Europe was subjugated by Nazi Germany, we supported the Nazis by standing alone against them and Fascist Italy to our great advantage. Even by your perverse logic, that takes some beating.

@12 I wasn't there but my grandfathers were and if I had been the right age I would have to - and I have served in the Army. Your history lesson is beyond rubbish - where would you like to start with wars the UK has won? Maybe the Falklands? Two world wars? Uruguay is a net beneficiary by having two friendly and powerful neighbours. Of course, every President in Urugay has to signal that he will stand up for the best deal and for respect towards the independence of Uruguay (which both Argentines and Brazilians find charming and love to visit!)
