Chile’s Presidency secretary Andrés Chadwick confirmed that the former Mayor from Magallanes Region in the extreme south of the country, Arturo Storaker had effectively resigned because of alleged irregularities during his performance. Read full article

Resignation necessary? (innocent until proved guilty).
Surely, like Paraguay within Mercosur, he can take leave until the Hearing.
If guilty of serious infraction, he should, of course, be imprisoned and removed permanently from any public office.

it has to be seen, if he really resigned himself or not. That seems not clear to me yet. Nevertheless, should he been involved in interests here, he should leave (and he will then). Magellanic people are very eager on not admiting corrupt politicans in their local rows.

He is still innocent. He has not gone to jail (yet) just been told to resign.
If he has gone without a fuss, we might presume he was caught with his fingers in the till.

Different countries; different rules.....You should know that by now....

To the best of my knewedlege,the Chilean Mayors (Intendentes) are personally appointed by the President of the Republic.
They are in office as long as the President wishes, not one second more, not one second less...............
