I would imagine the Chilean officers were rolling their eyes throughout, while still politely applauding.

They're a capable professional military with modern equipment, doctrine and training - he's a shaved chimp in a suit.

Every time there is an opportunity with a camera they highlight the Falklands issue… When will this stop…! It’s cringe worthy!

Mercopress will have a story soon about a visit to a Starbuck’s in Argentina when the minster said the CCTV camera how good it was to have a starbucks and that the Falklands are really theirs…

Regional defence? or regional offence? other latam countries have to not get sucked into argentinas expansionist agenda, they have no military of their own so they are gathering her neighbours instead and will drag them into Argentinas bogus claim at every chance, be careful who you get into bed with , because when the UK comes knocking it wont be a nice prospect to wake up to.....like i said the Uk us a more capable machine than it was in 82, make no mistake! and it will be in defence!

Lest we forget. Chile contributes to the region's and South Atlantic's “zone of peace” by refuelling Royal Navy warships, providing landing facilities to RAF aircraft, operating LatAm's only airlink to the Falklands and taking part in the exchange programme for Chilean and Falklands schoolchildren. Well done, Chile!

@11 You have nailed it on the head. Chile is well known for the way it provided verbal support to the Argentina government but logistical support to the UK government and the Islanders. The UK foreign office fully udnerstands the issues that Chile has with an agressive and bullying neighbour and as we saw with the recent ministerial visits to Chile from the UK this year. Chile has no intrested in shunning its freindly relasions with the the UK.

The idea of Chile and Argentina being freinds is utter crap, many Chileans still reammebr Argentina selling arms to Bolivia and Peru and the recent border wars there. Chile looks to America for its investment and as such is doing very well as an economy, they have even started to restrict the number of work visas given to Argentines due to the posisbility of major economic failure inA rgentina leading to an influx of workers.

“I'm not sure its a good idea to bandy about that word “cipayos” in such a perjorative way, JUBA, the Indian army in 2010 had a strength of 1,129,900 active personnel and 960,000 reserve personnel, making the it the world's largest standing volunteer army, a huge majority of those 2,089,900 are sepoys, in other words “cipayos”.
If you feel safe insulting such a huge army, go ahead, but I'd rather you go somewhere else than Argentina to do it!!!!!”

The Chilean armed forces, certainly the most deadly in South America, are basically designed to counter the 3 neighbours, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.

As I understand it, and I am no military expert, the Chillean armed forces can quite easily deal with al three neighbours at the same time, which is why, in an earlier post, I mentioned the probability of a heart attack for Mr. Putridjelly!!!!!

Argentina remains a mystery for me... as a chilean and knowing them better due to proximity, they, as a society, have all potential to be a great nation since over a century, named creativity, education (even if in decline), diversity, multiculturalism, entrepreneurism...but lack few of the last components necessary to make it complete: rationality and LOGIC.

It remains a mistery, while having all the previous ingredients, the last 2 states cannot be concluded or reached out of all the existing components. And they could do much better in a short term, even after all the mess that happened and happens there on daily basis.

By the way, Argentina is also interesting in an other aspect (for all people still believing in racism and superiority of specific ethnities): Argentina being the most “european” country is one of the most unstable, corrupt and inconsequent states in South America.
(Greetz to our racist friend Fido Dido scornfully depicting us chileans for being “Indios”)

A pity, considering that there are really lots of reasonable, endearable and just Argentines (the ones that you don't read here, except Simon78 and few other), who mostly do not comment here. For all those, I wish them their current nightmare will soon have an end and they will finally be able to care about things that really matter (like living in a secure envirement, not having to fear for your hard worked money getting worthless in shortest time, your pensions being robbed by the state, being indoctrinated by state driven and controlled media, etc...)

As a chilean, you should accept the fact that generations of indians from Chile are residing in my home town of Comodoro Rivadavia.
This chilean indians escaped discrimination and lack of opportunity in your country, Chile.
Perhaps, it would be nice if you kindly help them to return to your country Chile and give them the opportunity they all deserve, can you do that? ..No, you cannot. So, you are nothing more than an ignorant person making unacceptable comments about my country, Argentina.
Please, be advise that Argentina is having the most difficult economic times and will take time to recover.
Same bad economic times are found here in my second country, the USA.

part of the Chilean “indians” you are talking about in your country, are living there for almost 40 years. The other part of “indians” are just local native argentinian “indians”, which by coincidence are the same “indians” living over the andes, so not to sure you can even distinguish them. Of course you guys, in your racist attitude call them all Chileans, because you cannot face the fact there are still hundred of thousands native born argentine indians.

The Chilean ones immigrated to your country back then in the 70ies due to political reasons, as they were followers of obsolete and failed marxist system under Allende. Once Allende was not in charge anymore, they left for a country with a similar system, and they found it in Argentina! And they liked it, because it's not based on productivity, but easiest way to get arround things for free and many times on the dodgy way. So they found their heaven. In conclusion, the “indians” living over there are very similar to you guys, they don't care if their system is sustainable at all, as long as they get their easy treats.
So, no... we don't need them back, they have become part of your culture, you guys have become one (and they mostly have Argentine citizenship and argentine born kids now), they have gone to stay!

By the way, talking about immigration... it happens that in the last 10 years we have much more argentines searching for opportunities in Chile than chileans searching some in Argentina. But I would never conclude to send them back, because most argentines coming to Chile, in opposite to you fact-negating people, do want to work... they want to flee your “model” as they see no future in it, as it does punish people who really contribute to society.
So all Simon68's, etc are very welcome in Chile!

Actually Briton is very well mannered, if not you would have committed hari karri by now,

    2nd Briton hates no one,
3rd Briton dislikes CFK for trying to steal what is not hers to steal,
4th Briton hates, big countries who abuse threatens intimidated and harasses tiny small innocent countries,
5th Briton does not like countries [Argentina] who illegally invaded an innocent peaceful unarmed and defenceless tiny islands, without provocation , and as a direct result, argentina are guilty of the deaths of over 700 innocent people, on both sides,
6th, Briton does not like silly abnormal self rich us people like argie bloggers in part , who does noting but threatens and insults others, for no other reason that her own insecurity,
7th, great Britain, happens to be a well respected country, who tries very hard to obey international law, despite being insulted and threatened by a 3rd world banana republic,
Briton also objects to the unlawful aggression shown by argentina against British territory,
    The simplest fact is this,
CFK and argentina leaves the British alone, and we will as normal ignore you and leave you alone, [this happens to be a widely known fact]

But CFK refuses point blank to stop her aggression against the islands,
CFK want the oil and minerals, and is not interested in the people,
Argentina has its very own oil, minerals and natural resources, but is to greedy and or lazy to get them her self, but wants to steal others,

This should answer your question, and no insults were insulted in the making of this reply,
But one has to wonder what kind of replied this reply may yet see .

Argentina was a great nation, but now a poor nation, and this is your own fault, no one else’s, and definitely not the fault of the British,

On the other hand, if you wish to be the best, you must work at it,
Being the best is not just for Christmas, its for life,
And that is where the British come into its very own,

We may not be number one, but always strive to be,

Exactly. If Argentina ran the Falkland Islands, it would turn from a well run small democracy into a facist f-up (Peronism is derived from Hitler's and Mussolini's fascism).

So you have a roman nose as well do you? You must know what that is surely?

You could always go and work on the roads as a concrete pick. The roads in Argentina are already broken so your nose should do the job OK.

    Ha, ha.

    @ 60 Zhivago
    Let face it.
UK PM Daaaavid Kamoron enjoys the argentine stiff one like you enjoy Conor Louden-Brown rossy arse!
    @61 Benson
Do you read my comments about the islands?
For the last 7 months I have said that as an argentinian citizen born in CR, Chubut, Patagonia, Argentina (about 241 miles distance from you)
I don't want the islands...no money no class keep the islands in your ARSE!
    @62 ChrisR
Oh!...your eggplant size testicles and sardine size penis....You see? Your balls are full but your sardine size penis does not fit even in Conor Louden-Brown rossy arse!............................................................................................................
I look like Rosanna Podesta, oval face, big brown eyes, perfect nose, lips.
With 46 inches bust I do floor exercise at the club, but no, I don't have such nose to work as a concrete pick or make chalupas like Isolde said.
You guys are nothing more than rubbish bloody english men!
The whole world think the same!....Heeeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeee!

There is no need to break diplomatic ties.

As Argentina will not talk to the Falkland Islanders, Arg. will lose out financially.

So Argentina's stance is losing it money, whereas the Falkland Islanders can trade with other countries if Argentina doesn't want to play.

However, it is within Argentina's rights not to talk to the islanders if they choose, but then it is silly to complain about being robbed, if by talking to the islanders they would benefit financially (ie If Nestor had not withdrawn from talks Argentina would benefit from 50% sharing of FI resources).

Yes, there is sufficient reason for UK PM Daaaaavid Kamoron...to protect the islanders from daily harassment....don't you know that daily harrasment makes people sick?
The UK and the islanders Penguin News have insulted the argentine calling her “bitch”, “turkey neck” “that woman smells”, etc.
Is too late for you guys to try to regain any respect from the argentine citizens.
You guys are not welcome in my Argentina.
I repeat, my 2 countries the USA and Argentina are having the most difficult economic times and will take time to fix the economy...so you comment
    “Arg. will lose out financially”
for not talking to the islanders, simple don't make sense.
What the islanders have to trade with “other countries”?
Hey, 3,000 islanders not too much they can do.

I repeat, former argentine president Carlos Menen did the biggest mistake to resume diplomatic relations with the UK.
That's is why we are in this situation!
Carlos Menen ruined the economy of my country borrowing too much money and then as an excuse he decided to establish relations with the UK.
    What a mess!.

Puricelli, stop to ridiculously search for Chilean military protection only because you throw tantrums to the Falkland Islands.
We will surely not protect you if the Royal Navy comes back to kick your @ss, after you have provoqued them. You're so naive.
Ask the Paraguayans or Uruguayans, maybe they will help you... or?
