For consular purposes the Uruguayan Foreign Affairs ministry refers to the Malvinas Islands, which are claimed by Argentina with the support of Mercosur members, as the “dependent territory” of the “Islas Falklands”. Read full article

1952 - October 21 st , Argentina protests at Uruguay's appointment of a consular agent and also complains about anagreement for an air link to the Falklands. Uruguay's Government point out that the vice-consul was appointedin 1924 and the agreement signed in 1947.
October 28th, in protest, Argentina bans her shipping from calling at Uruguay's ports.

If, in a supposed situation that the islands become Argentines, the correct name in English would be Malvinas Islands......(dream, boy.....dream).
The UN does NOT compel governments to use any particular terminology when referring to the Islands. That is purely a guideline for official UN documentation and they actually advocate using both terms together: ”Malvinas (Falkland Islands)“ in Spanish and ”Falkland Islands (Malvinas)” in English and ALL other languages. Outside of the UN, a government can call them whatever they like, so there is no error, as they have stuck with the correct official name.

It only applies to UN documents. Anyone else can refer to the Falklands by whatever name they want. I don't complain when Argentines talk about Londres and I certainly don't care if they want to call the Falklands Las Malvinas. The fact is the official name for the islands is “The Falkland Islands”.

It also exposes the heavy handed bullying tactics the CFK administration uses when its neigbours and friends make a simple mistake. similar to then they spat their dummy out when Uruguay was looking to develope an airlink as well as business oppurtunties in the Islands.
I agree on a political level they supprot Argentina but they have stated they have no intrested in impoisng a blockade of the population and have recently sponsered visits from uruguian buisness leaders to look at ways of developing friendly buisness oppurtunities.
What they say diplomaticaly to appease an agressive naeigbour and what there actions show seem to be very different. Exacly the same situation way as Chile who state their support for Argentina on a dipolmatic level of continue to offer and devlope practical everyday support for the islanders. The UK foreign and commonwealth office fully understand these countires istuation which is why they stick to diplomatic channels rather than crying and screaming in public.
Interestingly, in the El Pais newspaper there is another article about Uruguay's defense agreement with the USA.

Just on Monday Argentina's Minister of Defence stood in front of one of their brand new fighter jets and said “[The British Military] is the only element that upholds the usurpation of that part of our national territory”.
Think about that for a second. If the British Military left tomorrow, the Islanders would still be there, as would their government and institutions. So how is the British Military the 'only element' that keeps the islands out of Argentina's hands? Once again, he said this in front of an Argentine fighter jet.
I want the British Military to leave the islands, but this can only happen when Argentina formally recognises the Islanders' fundamental human rights.
