Perhaps its time the EU did start looking into the standard of Argentine citrus fruits. If its not good enough for the USA why on earth should it be good enough for the EU.

”And as enemies multiply by the minute on complaints against the restrictions to imports imposed by the Argentine government, Cristina Fernandez does not back down and continually counterattacks. “Probably until the very end” when left with no resources”

Very true indeed, the rest of the world can see it, so why can't the Argentine people? Ignorance? Nationalism? or just plain old stupidity?

@3 I think it is ignorance of how the world views them. They are fed a lot of misinformation and told what to think so the majority would not even understand there is a problem. It only really becomes apparent when they can't find products they want to buy or can't afford them because of inflation. It is a very inward looking country on the whole.

Of course, that is not the entire population, as is evidenced by some of the posters here. Interestingly, my friends in Argentina that have travelled and lived outside of Argentina are far more aware. One put it rather harshly, “They just don't know how backward they are”. I think that is a bit extreme because most people are just getting through life as best they can and don't have time for the bigger picture.

The article does indicate how out of her depth CFKC is. She hangs onto a failing policy even when it clearly is not working because she has no idea what else to do.

''Cristina Fernandez does not back down and continually counterattacks. “Probably until the very end” when left with no resources”, concludes ABC.''

Then of course it will be someone elses fault that the country she leads is on it's knees. ''Blame countries X Y and Z'' she'll be saying, chucking in some malvinista rhetoric to paint over the real issues.

Good look Argentina, you're going to need it...

Elaine, I don't think it is ignorance, the problem is narcissistic personality disorder and their delusions of grandeur. Remember it is a VERY VERY small percentage of Rgs who have traveled to civilized countries. When you are told from birth you have the most beautiful, European city in SA you think that means the world.

I keep remembering my Real Estate Agent saying, as I was on the balcony of a new apt, “Looks like NYC doesn't it” and my response was “You've obviously never been there”. I have never met one SA that wasn't flabbergasted by how gorgeous and robust NYC is after they went there. My Rg friend says they just have no idea how backward they are.

It is a shame because the brainwashing works, I am sure everyone in N Korea thinks the whole world is starving and out to get them too.

Argentina is not going to win this battle. Every country has the sovereign right to set their own standards, not the WTO. And Argentine lemons continue to have the presence of CVC and black spot. ANd FMD continues to be a sporadic concern down there. Perhaps their lack of standards provides them with the assumption no one else does either.

@5 I agree with you! She's only 59 years old. According to the rings on her neck! She's a keen gardener. As witness her own confession that she puts make-up on with a shovel. I wonder if it's Polyfilla.

But over to the trade issues. According to the WTO website, argieland has made 15 complaints since the WTO started. But there have been 18 complaints against it and it has been involved, as a third party, in 43. By comparison, there have been 3 complaints against the UK. It hasn't made any complaints and hasn't been involved in any as a third party. Get the idea everybody? Trade with Britain, we're nice!

BK, Ok riddle me this, why would CFK antagonize the world's only super power and largest commercial market and then chase markets in Angola that has the GDP of Arkansas one of the least productive of all the USA?

Wouldn't it be easier to acquiesce to all of the USA requests and develop a good working relationship so you can sell into the whole market?

The only motivation I can figure is that CFK wants to look strong to her uneducated population, can you name some others?

I believe I had read that SInopec was going to cut production unless they get paid. Actually it was reported in the USA that they may outright suspend entire production. They are owed 184 Million US dollars

“The company reportedly told government officials that the situation ”could worsen drastically in the weeks ahead“ and that if the problem isn't reversed soon, Sinopec could face trouble paying its service providers and employees.”

@17 It is true that Brazilians are terrible at tipping; I hear that complaint all over SoAm. During the last economic crisis Argentines stopped tipping and many have not resumed to any great degree.

I tend to stick to whatever is the local custom or what is typical in the UK when I am uncertain. Something I was advised by a local in Central America was to never over-tip as it would mark you out for mugging or worse.

I kind of understand the beauty of Buenos Aires in that is is like a faded old dowager; you can see it was vibrant, wealthy and attractive decades ago but has decayed. It is not Paris however one tries to squint to make it so. It also has some astonishingly ugly concrete tower blocks of apartments. I always warn visitors that they will pass something resembling a competition to design the ugliest building in the world on the route from the airport to the city centre, but to keep faith because it does get better.

Sorry to break up the love tryst between you two, but back to the topic.

Argentina are going to lose thia at the WTO for two simple reasons:

    1) America is basing its rejection of meat and lemons on SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE. That's checking what they receive meets the WTO standards as a minimum. THEY DON'T MEET THEM.

    2) TMBOA would not know the truth if it bit her on her Botoxed face.

How difficult is it for you to understand that if you cannot keep F&M under control people will NOT WANT YOUR MEAT.
Stop your pathetic whining and adapt, adapt adapt.

How difficult, pratface Arguello, is it to understand that if your lemons are poisoned by artificial colouring and disease that people DO NOT WANT TO CONSUME them?

So stop whining like a fairy, adapt your agriculture to sell GOOD products and you will prosper-so, so, so, simple.

The Falkland Islands produce is ORGANIC-that's why it sells.

Do yourself a favour Argentina, employ the FIG as consultants and your country will become very rich. Instead of insulting the Falkland Islanders , USE THEM!!!!!!!!

Why on earth do you think that DESPITE Argentina's spineless, bullying and pathetic inneffective sanctions against the FIs they are able to attract investment and finance ?

The USA: this is, let's remember, a country that cannot control a mosquito, and they have now thousands of West Nile fever cases (and those are the reported cases, the disease is insidious and can pass for other maladies so many cases are not even reported).

Meanwhile Argentina erradicated West Nile in 1993, and Dengue fever in 2010 after that 100 year event in 2008 or whenever it was.

This is a country where Whooping cough is making a comeback all over, and where there is a major salmonella outbreak underway as we speak. This is country that with Mexico invented the pork flu in 2009, because up there they enjoy fornicating pigs.

This is a country that worries about foot-and-mouth (and btw, all cases in Argentina happen in the fart north by the border with Paraguay/Brazil... coincidence???), but they have reported cases of MAD COW, this year.

Given all the info above, only one thing remains to be typed:

If this is the case we must be invincible - Arg. watch out !

    @58 sussieUS/Susana brown/Sybil /others...

For those wondering about sussie/Sybil's sanity and sexual preferences ,

“Cristina looks like me after a day of work. As a working woman I understand her. I am a strong Argentinean woman and not matter what you say I will be here for 4 more years.
Those people who copy me...///... you can’t copy me, I am Susana Brown.
I do live in US. I came here to escape from my town in Patagonia. I grew up there but when was I very just being sexually active girl I was looked after by a Peruvian worker. He used to pick me up on way back from school. I didn’t like him first but then I like to call him papi. When I got pregnated for the first time by him my baby looked like a Peruvian. My parents sent me to USA. Here I have to work real hard turning lots of tricks, lots of man...sometimes 15 a day. But im proud, im gonna get back to Patagonia and buy some land better than the falklands.

    BUT LETS FACE THE FACTS:
I miss my Peruvian papi, he liked my rossy arse. He used to screw my arse all day
    Bang, bang, bang, pppuuurrrrrrfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff!
But now my arse get screwed all day by many men and some don’t pay just
    Bang, bang, bang, pppuuurrrrfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff!
Drip, drip, my poor rossy arse.”

Please explain why you posted that, sussie???

It appears on other threads posted by you, as well.

Argentina shouldn't Be helping or dealing with a terrorist state like USA we should not support the indiscriminate killing of Muslim women and children in Afghanistan, Iraq, libya, syria, egypt, Palestine and Lebanon.
    www.gregpalast.com/the-globalizer-who-came-in-from-the-cold/
A pattern emerges. There are lots of losers in this system but one clear winner: the Western banks and US Treasury, making the big bucks off this crazy new international capital churn. Stiglitz told me about his unhappy meeting, early in his World Bank tenure, with Ethopia's new president in the nation's first democratic election. The World Bank and IMF had ordered Ethiopia to divert aid money to its reserve account at the US Treasury, which pays a pitiful 4% return, while the nation borrowed US dollars at 12% to feed its population. The new president begged Stiglitz to let him use the aid money to rebuild the nation. But no, the loot went straight off to the US Treasury's vault in Washington.

Now we arrive at Step Four of what the IMF and World Bank call their “poverty reduction strategy”: Free Trade. This is free trade by the rules of the World Trade Organization and World Bank, Stiglitz the insider likens free trade WTO-style to the Opium Wars. “That too was about opening markets,” he said. As in the 19th century, Europeans and Americans today are kicking down the barriers to sales in Asia, Latin American and Africa, while barricading our own markets against Third World agriculture.

Like a true rg troll always off topic:
Here is Ethiopa's transactions from 1984 through 2012. Loans, repayments and interest. Not activity since 2010

    www.imf.org/external/np/fin/tad/extrans1.aspx?memberKey1=290&endDate=2012-08-26&finposition_flag=YES

The things about borrowing money, if you do not intend to pay it back, like argentina, do not borrow. No one holds a gun to your head and forces you to borrow. Money costs money. People that do not have money do not and cannot understand the time value of money and the purpuse of lending it to make money. Higher risk higher rates.
187 million in loans to Ethiopia since 2009 and less than 300,000 in interest payments
I think SA would do the world a favor and keep all trade in their own borders and start by no longer selling to Europe, Asia and North America. That will make all you trolls happy. But that means that all businesses for those countries will be packing and moving out as well. They can sell all residual assets to SA governments. Cash in dollars only please.

#82 a little research on loans to Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya from IMF with support of WTO would go a long way clearing your unipolar vision of the world.
    www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Fast_and_Furious
Trafficking guns might be less corrupt and more lucrative then getting a loan from IMF or exporting lemons and meat to USA.
I don't know where you are from but Don't you have some school or community shooting event to go to??

Unipolar reading the dictionary again I see. I didn't think they allowed education at camp la casa rosado. How's the oil drilling going in Britain's most southern atlantic island of Falkland going? I hear they are doing very well. Just think of the shithole of a mess the Falklanders would be in if they were part of argentina. I have to say I am genuinely happy that oil prosperity seems high for them.
Why don't you ask Anal lips.....aka turkey neck to drop her baseless claims and we will and let's not trade. We buy 56 billion of imported goods from argentina and export 68 billion. Out of a 15 trillion dollar GDP, we can handle the loss. Work on that at your next round robin meeting at camp rosado.

This German is a disaster for the Argentinians, even they must be starting to understand this. Good relations are built by governments treating others as equals.

This government has bullied their neighbours into supporting their fanatical case against the tiny nation of the Falklands.

Do they not understand that eventually every nation will run out of patience? All the free-will will be lost, and the government has used it all on what exactly? Trying to steal a bunch of Islands from under the feet of the Islanders.

I'm starting to get fed up with the Argentine government.
