Britain's Prince Harry has returned to Afghanistan to fly attack helicopters on the frontline just two weeks after he was photographed frolicking naked in Las Vegas. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said he would serve a four-month tour, based out of Camp Bastion in Helmand Province, one of the most volatile regions in the country. Read full article

1.... bows and arrows!! We are not in the war of the desert now. more like RPGs and IEDs.

Maybe they can take a leaf out of the RG military handbook and fix rocket launchers to playground apparatus, or base field gun batteries behind a fake hospital. or even the best one , raise the white flag wait for the British to send a messenger then shoot them dead.

I would like to see maximo deployed to one of your frontier disputes, that delgatty would need a chinook to lift his lunchbox.

So the Royal family's stock just went up a couple of points.

Not only has prince Harry shown that he is, after all, just like the rest of us, but his father ( Prince Charles ) has pulled any strings to keep him away from the front line.

This will be his 2nd tour of duty. OK, so he is not chewing dirt like most of the troops but still, he is not shying away from his duty.

I now call upon KFC to do the same!! Let her send troops to Afghanistan, show her support for the rest of the world. And, while she's at it, show what a GREAT leader she is by sending her son to the front line. That would show everyone how much she is in touch with all the “real” people.

What is the Argentine obsession with our Royal family? It is a subject raised by just about every Argentine I have ever met, and not to criticise, they LOVE them. It used to baffle me until I realised we probably take them for granted most of the time.

For centuries in Europe it has been normal practise for sons of royals and aristocracy to go into the armed services. Most often leading the charge during wars. Nothing new here.

    I say:
The job of a fighting serviceman is to kill the enemy as efficiently as possible. The of his commanders is to identify the enemy. The job of the politicians back home is to decide who the enemy is.

If you want to debate the part the politicians are playing in this that is a different matter. But as long as our soldiers are at war I hope they kill before get killed.

He could do literally anything with his life, doesn't have to worry about money and is a celebrity from and by birth, and yet decides to dedicate his life to the cause of dropping bombs on tribal shepheards and children. And yes perhaps some “Taliban” fighters too, who every serious analyst is saying its only a matter of time before we make a deal with, a deal we could really get on with making right now in that case...

    You are a prick!

This is his second deployment, his first deployment he was on the ground with the troops.

You know noting of the British military do you? Well let me enlighten you. All officers share the same privations and harsh conditions that their men do, unlike the Argentine army where the officers believe themselves better than their troops, so expect to live in comfort. In 2008, Prince Harry was forward with his men, living in the same conditions, eating the same food, and his men had a lot of respect for him.

Then the international media let the world know he was there, so it was decided that in order to protect the men on the ground, he should be removed.

He has now returned as an Apache helicopter pilot. He will be on standby 24/7 to go and fly missions. Missions supporting the troops on the ground, missions protecting the Medical Emergency Response Team who will be bringing back casualties, missions protecting logistical helicopters bringing much needed ammunition, water, food and medical supplies to the troops on the ground.

He is not having an easy life. Prince Charles has no say over where or how Harry is deployed. Why? Because Harry is an officer in the Army Air Corps, and he is deployed just like any other officer, he will live in the same conditions as the other Apache pilots, eat the same food, and share the same privations, and fatigue that comes from flying mission after mission.

As I said you are a prick.

You and Think have almost identical views on just about everything. Its quite remarkable. The Military in the UK is a noble and honourable calling. Please remember that Afghanistan (unlike Iraq, where I think we would agree more than you might think) is a UN mission. So you could say that Prince Harry is putting his life on the line in the service of the World, that includes you, Think and DufferuptheDuff. You should be grateful not rude and offensive.

    57
Bit harsh. Might be wrong but I took from post 13 that he admired Prince Harry but that in the Army Air Corps he (Officers and Men) would be back at base living in rather better conditions than Harry's first tour, when he was a Forward Air Controller and life was very much more rough and ready for both Officers and Men.

That's not the way I interpreted it. tooldtodieyoung specifically stated that Prince Charles 'pulled' strings to ensure that Harry wasn't on the ground, to keep him safe.

I was just putting him right. If he doesn't like the royal family, fine, that's his right. But to try and marginalise the courage of young men, like Harry, makes my blood boil.

Nowhere in Afghanistan is safe. Some places are safer than others, but it's not completely safe. Harry will be flying combat missions. These are dangerous. Not only because of the enemy, but the sand and weather can play havoc with even the most sophisticated machines.

So no I don't think it was a bit harsh.

Being in Afghanistan is not about killing people, as you like to put it, but to try and establish the peace so the Afghan people can rebuild their country.

The Taliban don't want the people of Afghanistan to be educated, to have doctors, schools, hospitals, television, computers or any freedom. The Taliban don't want the people of Afghanistan to think for themselves. The same has been true of all dictators through the ages.

If the international community were to turn their backs on Afghanistan now, thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people could be murdered.

In fact, many of the Taliban aren't even Afghan nationals, they're foreigners too, from Iran, Pakistan, Chechnya etc...

No the only way to ensure a lasting peace in Afghanistan is to train their own forces to be able to deal with these terrorists themselves.

Will it work? I don't know, but it's better to try than to ignore what's happening. I mean we did that before, didn't we? After the Russians were kicked out. The Taliban murdered hundreds of thousands of their own people while the international community looked on and did nothing. The Taliban allowed Afghanistan to become a safe haven for terrorist training camps, which lead to the terrible events of 11 Sep 2001.

The international community can't win can it? I mean, we went into Bosnia and Kosovo to protect the people, and we were eventually successful. We didn't go into Rwanda, and were criticised for not preventing acts of genocide.

We go into Afghanistan, and we're criticised. We help out Libya and we're criticised. We don't help out in Syria and we're criticised.

So the UN can't win no matter what it does, can it? Why? Because there are always people ready to criticise the action or inaction of the UN, and always like to blame someone. You should've done this, you shouldn't've have done that. But 20/20 hindsight is always perfect isn't it?

    Well said.

Unfortunately some people hide their heads in the sand and pretend it is not happening, or, its not their fault that a nasty dictator was in power when it happened.

    Funny....

British Turnip “toooldtodieyoung” can not write his comment in English, without omitting a (rather important) “NOT”

British Turnip “LEPRecon” can not read the above mentioned comment because of the (quite evident) omission of a “NOT”

Both get mad at eachother because they can't write or read English...

Argentinean Turnip “Simon68” must explain to both British Turnips how to write and read English so they can understand each other and find out that they both are in complete agreement about the discussed topic.

    What a turnip field.............

Thank you for being the voice of reason. and “YES” I did post the comment forgetting to add the “NOT” in it ( well spotted all ).

But I was in no way belittling Prince Harry as LEPRecon would have us all believe.

I am with the hawks when it comes to Afghanistan. I think that we are right to be there, only wish we had more boots on the ground.

    48 Think

And just for the record, we are not fighting the Mujahideen. They were ( past tense ) Afghan freedom fighters who rose up against the Russian occupation of their country ( but you knew that already, didn't you? )

oh and by the way, “Today, under the Anglo ocupation of afghanistan” is another lie, isn't it? it's ISAF forces from all around the world, American lead and we are all fighting the Taliban. ( But you knew that as well didn't you? )

The ISAF forces are there under the invitation of the Afghan government, all they need to do is say “we don't want you here” and ISAF would be gone.

“most of the causalities are civilians, conveniently re-categorized as “Insurgents” ” Another lie ( you keep doing that don't you? Makes me wonder if you can tell the truth about anything ) We are fighting FOR the people of afghanistan not against them ( but you knew THAT already as well, didn't you? )

I would continue with the things that you already know but I don't want to overload your turniphead doing so......

But the Taliban fighters of today (at least the leaders and the older ones) were PART of the mujahideen then. The Taliban only took over in the 90s because the mujahideen, after they won, descended into a set of murderous rival warlords who tore the country apart. Many of whom are our allies today... No occupation of Afghanistan can ever succeed, but the best in intention was the Soviet one. Especially when judged against its enemies, a Reagan-bin Laden alliance, how's that for an “axis of evil”?

Or you have a problem to read or you twist everything as you wish.

I say that my friends are planing to live UK because hardy can face the cost of living.

And I also say that the Unemployment is no easing as you say and that inflation is rising.

And then I posted links from UK media showing the rise of inflation in UK.
And also I cited respectable survey about Britons leaving UK for better job opportunities or to find job and better standard of living, etc.

So do you think that I wrote these articles for BBC and survey just to annoy you?

Do you even bother to read the articles?

“Inflation may stay above 3% this year, the Bank of Englad has warned. Photograph: Carl Court/PA
Increase in consumer price index to 3.5% “
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/apr/18/inflation-rise-slow-wage-growth-fears-recovery

And you article says 2.6 just for July
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/apr/18/inflation-rise-slow-wage-growth-fears-recovery

    And in March was 3.5%

So the inflation for the whole year as the BoE says would be above 3% may be 3.5%

And yes it is a high inflation for an economy with an over value currency and in stagnation and going to deflation.

“UK economy mired in stagnation rather than recession”
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/apr/18/inflation-rise-slow-wage-growth-fears-recovery

Road map: recession, VV recession, Stagnation, Stangflation, Deflation, Depression... and Collapse

Guess in what point is currently UK?

    Stangflation, Stagnation with Inflation.

So smart people run away before the ship sinks and is too late.

Do you get the picture now.

You are wrong as always and has miss interpreted the article.

    In other words.

The article says that the BoE has a target inflation for the end of 2013 (we are in 2012 if you are not aware of) and also the BoE says that before reach that forecast (target) inflation will rise. What is already happening now in UK

It is a forecast of the BoE like if the BCRA says that inflation for the end of 2013 for Argentina would be 4%.
Something easy to say, predict, estimate etc. but hardly to materialise.

And btw Simon68 have you ever been in Britain for a long period of time?

I guess not because you should know that the “Indec” of Britain like any other in the worlds always hide real numbers when they are bad.

    @Santa Fe

Are you trying to convince your self of that?

There is not any evidence of UK recovery, and Stagflation is a flat economy no growing and with inflation.
You are not going to have hyperinflation but deflation in the long run. This is the worse scenario for an economy because companies starts to make liquid stocks, some sales with not profit margins to afford debts and cannibalism becomes the word of the year.

This lead to a massive bankrupt of little and middle size companies, which are the more vulnerable and also to more unemployment and the rise of the “spread” or interest points to borrow money abroad.

And if even that are not bad news CaMoron is also sending even faster the UK economy to collapse.
As the debt crisis of the Euro club will affect Britain’s exports.

Cuts only works when you have a manageable debt UK since long time ago lost the ability to manage its debt.

So tie you seat belt put your head down and wait hoping to be lucky before the air plane crash appears any good pilot to land anywhere.

    @130

To compare the Argentinean INDEC with the UK forecasts for inflation shows how poor your grasp of economics really is.

It seems to me that anyone living in the U.S. would not be happy the muslims are going on a rampage, they have very little concern about collateral damage, or maybe you feel safe in B.A.!

Quite frankly, I can understand the feelings of the Muslim 'mob'.
Take a look at the video and you will see just how offensive it is.
This is viewed by 'all' individuals and families across the Muslim world.

OK, it was produced and validated by the odd-ball 'religious Right' of the USA, but without powerful response from the USA establishment - indicating that *this is what the USA thinks* about the Muslim leader of the faith.

What I fail to grasp is why this translates into attacks on a German Embassy.
