Thousands of Argentines began spilling out of the capital Friday night to make the most of the long weekend, which congress approved just three weeks ago. Monday's Sept. 24th holiday makes for a total of 19 national paid holidays this year. Only Colombia comes close in Latin America, with 18. Read full article

Sep 24th, 2012 - 02:02 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yes i'm afraid so. But it is 200 aniversary. So I think its a combo!
Sep 24th, 2012 - 03:18 am - Link - Report abuse 0I just don't see how more free time and partying increases a country's competitiveness in the global economy.
Sep 24th, 2012 - 04:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0All that talk about how it makes people more productive and the costs are manageable just seems like spin to me.
Can somebody explain this to me? Germans I hear have a good deal of free time and their country has economic standing, but no one wants to listen to their ideas.
Are Argentinos really working that hard and stressing out at work that bad that they are better off with more free time.
How many days are there in a normal Argentine work week? How many hours are there in a normal Argentine work week?
Another great example of Cristina's progressive policies =)
Sep 24th, 2012 - 01:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It does not Bushpilot. It only pushes more cost burden opn businesses. While internation businesses can say say it....taxes, political unstability, export restiction, product cost burdens....time to leave, domestic business cannot and just take it up the ass.
Sep 24th, 2012 - 02:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0However there is a hidden agenda to the increasing holidays. As production continues in it's current state of freefall....the only option businesses have is to reduce the workforce. Higher unemployment looks bad for the inmcompetence of ass lip kirchner. So what does she do rather than faciing increasing unemployment? She creates more holidays and makes businesses pay the cost of the time off. More holidays, less work time matches reduced production.
Think of a productive country if they had that much time off, they would have an increased demanad and a back log of work........argentina does not. RGconomics at work........Romans called it Bread and Circus to keep the masses distracted and the country fell apart. argentina calls it champagne and pizza.
#5 So what does she do rather than faciing increasing unemployment? She creates more holidays
Sep 24th, 2012 - 03:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You say that like its a bad thing, as if increasing unemployment was the preferred option!!!
They are already one of the most unproductive people in the world, dare I say L A Z Y? Yes I dare. For those of you who have never lived in Arg did you know most customer service lines for Cable, Phone, Internet, Cell phone etc etc etc are not open until around 10am! Can you imagine!
Sep 24th, 2012 - 03:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I am so happy to be back in civilization.

Sep 24th, 2012 - 03:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I heard an argument lately, in a different country, they need to reduce the work week to 4 days from 5, that will leave more work for the unemployed and spread the employment around.
Also, I once had a boss who would say, when there wasn't enough work for a full week, take the day off tomorrow, you've been working hard, you deserve a day off. I saw right through this and knew he just didn't want to say, I don't have enough work. I didn't want a day off. It wasn't paid and I wanted to make money not have free time.
Another boss would call us in at noon before a long weekend and tell us to start the holiday early. If he had work that needed doing, he wouldn't care about our free time. He just wanted to conserve the work he did have lined up because he didn't have enough work to keep us all busy for the whole week.
It seems you are saying CFK is doing something similar here. And she doesn't have to pay for it. Is that right?
Bushpilot...there are moany arguments to many sides. When you run a business expecting to make money, the government comes along and tells you....more PAID time off, that is like you at home and the electric company says, ” your monthly bill is going from 125 a month to 325. How does that make you feel.....shitty but what can you do...nothing. Now....suppose you can choose your elctric company......what would you do? SHop for a better price. What do you think international businesses do when you keep loading cost on them? Exactly.....move. You as a government can only poad some much cost onto a business before they poack up and move to another country.
Sep 24th, 2012 - 07:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As for moving from a 5 to 4 day work week, all you are doing is lowering overall wages to employee the unemployed. Ssay you work an 8 hour ( I have never seen one) 5 days a week. You will go from a 40 to 32 hour work week. Do you really think you will keep your 40 hour a week wage? No
I am fortunate, got an education, worked my ass off. I get 4 weeks vacation a year, 6 personal days, 2 floating holidays, but only 6 holidays a year. Most Americans do no get that. But 33 holidays a year......equals no productivity from business. I expect there will be more to come with continuing drops in manufacturing. More international businesses will be packing as they cannot make a profit and they are not in business for kirchnerites model of socialism.
Here in Argentina we are heavily protesting the Kirchner administration, their endless corruption in every corner of the government, stealing of public funds, outright lies to the public about everything from security to the economy to official inflation figures.
Sep 24th, 2012 - 07:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Today we start a new protest in Argentina - it's called the “ANTI-KK campaña”. In our language “KK” is pronounced KaKa, and that is what we think of the Kirchner administration.
We ask all citizens against the Kirchner “KK” regime to leave a bag of excrement or bring your dog to defecate on the steps of Congress, on the steps of the Casa Rosada, or in front of the door of any office of “La Cámpora” or another militant organization of this joke of a president called “Kolina”.
Leave bags of excrement, or garbage or any other repulsive, non-dangerous item that stinks on the steps of or in front of any of these government related places. This is a peaceful protest, non-violent, and will send a strong message to the “KaKa” government that is destroying lives in Argentina.

the long weekend, which congress approved just three weeks ago. is both true and false.
Sep 24th, 2012 - 08:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Monday 24th was approved as a holiday INSTEAD OF Tuesday 25th, El Día del Perdón (the Jewish Yom Kipur) which has been a traditional Argentina day off (día no laboral) for ages.

Sep 24th, 2012 - 08:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You must be unemployed and have a lot of time on your hands to be in here criticizing your President. If you are not, I bet that you have a newer car in your garage and and you should be thankful to have a job and a government that fights for you every day to make sure you keep it.

So you are the proponent of a civilized society? There are a lot of people upset at my country's government (Obama) these days but if they were to do what you suggest here, they would go to jail for 10 years, pay a hefty fine, and they may even get sued at the same time.
IDIOT!
