Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo told delegates at the Liberal Democrat party conference in Brighton on Sunday night that Gibraltar was grateful for the support it had received over the years from UK politicians.
Mr Picardo explained that there were Liberals present in both the Governments of Gibraltar and of the United Kingdom. He outlined the Government’s plans to set up a University College in Gibraltar and went through other policy initiatives of the GSLP/Liberal Government.
Mr Picardo also touched upon the problems with Spain in relation to Gibraltar’s territorial waters. For his part, the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats Simon Hughes MP pledged his continuing support for Gibraltar and mentioned the fact that he had visited several times.
MP Hughes also referred to the University project and to the plans to construct new housing in Gibraltar and he welcomed the presence of Liberals in Government both in Gibraltar and in the UK. Also present at the reception was Sir Graham Watson, South West Region MEP, who Mr Picardo thanked for his tireless work on Gibraltar matters in the European Parliament.
