“CFK who added that “in any country if they catch with more than 1.000 dollars cash in your pockets, you are considered a drugs’ dealer”.”

I've had more than that in my pockets plenty of times, it's not because I'm a drug dealer, it's because I live in a developed country and have more more than Argentinians apparently have. I also don't need to ask a degenerate retard with a deflated football for a head to spend my own money that I have earned.

This article is breathtaking. The resons she gives to 'prove' there is no dollar clamp are nonsensical. Seems to be a case of “if I keep on talking and denying then hopefully it will all go away”

I like the phrase “...if they catch you with 100 dollars”. Like, yeah, we all live in police states too.

In Argentina none will care because is a cash economy but in US and in some European countries you will be flagged as a suspicious person.

1k dollars is nothing in Argentina, people use to have a lot of cash at home ranging from 2 to 50k USD.

This is due to people don’t trust in banks and none can blame them. The same will happen in EU and US in the near future after financial global collapse.

“In no country in the world can you purchase 2 million dollars without saying the purpose” said CFK who added that “in any country if they catch with more than 1.000 dollars cash in your pockets, you are considered a drugs’ dealer”.

Currency traders buy and sell everyday on the Forex without questions. Maybe she just needs to make a edict, I mean decree and make that term illegal to use.

The Argentine's that have 50k in U$ dollars aare the middleclass that asslips hates and is attacking. You are not in argentina dumbo, stick to what you know......assology

@5 I travel pretty much all over with a stash of dollars. It has never been a problem or singled me out as suspicious, so far. : ) CFKC is the first person to intimate I might be of dubious character for doing so. I understand what she is trying to do - make people hoarding dollars seem socially unacceptable - but, as you say, banks crashing in Argentina is a very fresh memory and people are not going to be talked out of holding onto a small amount of security.

In truth, hoarding gold and other valuables is more secure. European countries and the US experienced the Great Depression, so they are not without experience. If the world economy collapses there will not be a country in the world untouched, which is why everyone is working to prevent it.

@6 Only if you don't clear the balance at the end of each month.

I am not a fan of CFK. Her government although democratically elected, is increasingly dictatorial. They ''defile'' the Argentine constitution, lie and cheat, and line their pockets and those of their cronies. But what's new, that's always been the way in Argentina.
However, why does CFK lie about/side-step a policy, that all Argentina should applaud, is beyond me - come on CFK - dollar control was the right decision - ''pesification'' of Argentina is right for the economy and the people in the long-run.
Unfortunately, CFK dictates knee-jerk policy extremes and so there's been some silly ''tinkering'' that has and will really piss people off. Come December and January - just wait for the fireworks. When the great and good want to go to Punta de Este it's going to be an interesting time - Kirchnerites are banned by CFK - thank god, I would not want to share my beach with thugs like Moron-Moreno.
Remember, in Argentina, too much wealth was controlled by too few. That's always been the way. People in Argentina are not like Brits or the Yanks or the Frogs, they are ''fair weather patriots'' and when their country is in trouble it's always been every man for himself.
Peso to dollar exchange increases to astonishing levels, dollars leave the country in incredible sums and bank deposits disappear - it’s always been the way apart from the era of unwise (for so long) dollars parity. Economic problems are exacerbated and disaster usually follows in some form or another. I have seen this quite a few times, but none quite as spectacular as 2001/2.
After the peso devalues and the storm calms, back come the dollars to buy up cheap. I am one of those people who sent my money packing - I am older - wiser. I need to see Argentina win, I know it can. Although this ‘’cookie-bird’ running the country worries me, I want to see her stay until her mandates finished. Stability of democracy is so important, even if you do not like those who lead.

Pesification just means everyone loses their savings. Argentina would be better off making the $US legal tender so that the economy stabilizes and the government has less power to fleece everyone.

@1 When you enter any EU country from outside the EU, you are required to complete a cash declaration in respect of €10,000 or more. Or the equivalent in other currencies. But it doesn't follow that you are automatically considered to be a drug dealer. It may prompt enquiries. But then there will be enquiries if you are found carrying similar amounts OUT.
@6 The heavy argie interest burden!

Hmm I guess I must be classed as a drug dealer, 'cos when I went to Florida on holiday I carried US$2,000 in cash, and another US$8,000 on a prepaid credit card.

However, the US customs officials didn't think to be 'suspicious' and I and the family had a damned fine time. They were probably very happy that I was spending my money in their country which in turn helps their economy.

Anyway, to paraphrase Shakespeare “A dollar clamp by another name, impoverishes just the same.”

Sovereign nations require their own currency. It’s rather silly to say that Argentina should dollarize. To control one’s own currency via an independent central bank is a cornerstone of modern economic thinking. Argentina is only half way there and takes one step forward and two steps back.
My point is, pesification is a necessary evil. Dollar controls only really affect about 18% of the population negatively and me being stuck here with pesos is the ''bed I made'' made years ago. However, she's gone too far of course trying to hurt the land owners and the Recoleta crowd.

If you came in by car from mainland Europe then they may not have bothered if you went into the green channel.

Try coming from Argentina by air into the UK.

Argentina is on the 'drugs' list and you WILL have your passport checked and your name run through the CRO computer. If it gets a hit you will be touching your toes very quickly.

I would have thought that the majority of people that travel seldom carry large amounts in excess of a 1,000 $ in cash with with them.

The majority of countries that I travel to I will use a cash card to withdraw money in the local currency with no restrictions.

Maybe travelling to countries like Argentina where I could get more pesos for my dollars if I used cash it might be worth the risk of carrying large amounts of cash with me.

As far as I am informed this is (at least was originally) to prevent express kidnappings, where the victim was held while the kidnappers emptied the account.

With a low daily limit, express kidnappings suddenly became very unattractive.

It shows that anything and everything is up for seizure anywhere in the world except embassy property. I think they are getting close to seizing a bunch of building in DC that Arg owns for Military/Navy but is not consider an embassy. That would be embarrassing/hilarious having the sheriff toss their junk on the sidewalk.

Point well taken. In both cases they were “inside” jobs, could have been avoided by not announcing my visits in advance. The one time I lost about 2000$ and the guys got away, the second time ended quite differently, enough said about that. But you are right, I could have avoided, incidentally they were both in rural towns in BA province. I would say BA is more dangerous than Toronto, but you can still get robbed or murdered in Toronto, I'm sure Troll will be happy to point out that we had a mass shooting here last year! The only other place I was robbed in was Johannesburg. I spend a lot of time in Argentina so I guess it just increases the odds.

Please don’t come, please don’t come...

    @Zhivago

Dr. Zhivago I have never got robbed in BA.
As in any big metropolis you always have to be cautious. I wouldn’t be having shopping with a “rolex” for the streets of London as I would not do that in Toronto, in BA, Milan, etc. That is an invitation like a sign saying “rob me please”.

Tourist anywhere have more probabilities to become a victim of crime than a resident, so If I go to Toronto I will have to be more careful than you because you can recognise faster an easy any possible dangerous situation than me.

Announcing everybody that you are arriving to some destination is another invitation to organise a quick robbery job for some employee of your building, or a friend that told to another friend that know someone, that comment of your arriving, etc. Let’s say half Mendoza is aware of you arriving including criminals.

Being in a public place with someone like Yankeeboy talking a bout how rich he is in Amexican is another stupidity. And believe me they use to do that everywhere, You can see a yank coming from 2 kilometres speaking in English louder waving an American Flag. Ha ha

Despite statistic I think London is more dangerous than BA because statistics are not made all with some methodology. For example Argentina reports all murders considered “Homicidios dolosos” in that category enters Car accidents, A wife killed by a jealous husband, etc.

London is different, I fit in better, as in Argentina I speak the language but my accent gives me away in both places. You have obviously been to both places but we see them with different eyes. I feel safe in BA but I don't go out at night and I am very careful about the neighborhoods I frequent. Last year I went to Salta and I was warned not to go because of the danger and frequent attacks on tourists, two French women had recently been raped and murdered, I saw lots of poverty but no crime and I never felt as though I was in any danger.
I always try not to look like a tourist, once I was sitting in a cafe in Olavarria and an older man asked if he could sit with me. He had lived in the States and he wanted to speak English. I asked him how he knew I was a foreigner that spoke English and he told me it was because of the way I smoked a cigarette!
